Today's Trolling.

Well, given how nasty Wario64’s (or whoever’s) current trolling has gotten, is it time to consider a more stringent registration process?

Admin approval (yes, some will slip through. But Wario tends to make a buttload of accounts at a time.)

Ban some of the bullshit free email domains (Guerrilla Mail, etc) if he’s using them. More legit sites like google don’t make it as easy to drum up 100 addresses anymore.

Needing to wait a week before being allowed to post. (not friendly to new users, but I would argue that they and we would be better off if they lurked and read other posts for a week anyway)

no posting images (duh. But it seems unlikely that the platform will support this? If it can’t be implemented, I would argue that links need to be clicked instead of embedded, as inconvenient as that is.)

limit of one post an hour, no creating new threads, etc? (no downsides to these)

Pretty standard stuff in this day and age.

I’m not sure what the forum software’s capable of, but I think they really need to find a way to IP ban.

I seriously doubt that our mods would have been incapable of doing a simple IP ban after all this time. He probably used his mom’s credit card to get a decent VPN. Some forums ban well known VPN hosts, but I kind of doubt we’re capable of that here.

Maybe a title character limit so he can’t create massively long titles.

Yeah. That’d be a good start.

I had no idea what you were talking about until I scrolled down the main page, ridiculous. Who the fuck is Wario64? I don’t think admin approval or one week wait times for new users are good ideas, it would probably discourage legitimate new registrations. Maybe just apply these restrictions to Off Topic, or did he do that bullshit in other sections, I didn’t see any in the sections I normally check first (the Preservation sections)? How often does this dude flood the main page with that sort of nonsense? This is the first time I’ve seen it.

Holy shit that would cause yhwx’s mind to explode. He would have to carefully gather the 2,000 posts he typically posts in one hour into a txt file and then choose only one to officially submit. That’s heartbreaking, it’s Sophie’s Choice 2016.

Nah, he flooded Harmy’s threads with hundreds of anime porn (hentai or whatever) images. My suggestions apply site-wide. If it was just Off Topic I wouldn’t have given a shit. 😛

Wario was banned ages ago, but keeps coming back in new sock accounts. Johny_Sasaki is the most recent iteration. Then he makes further sock accounts to spam off-topic with anime porn maybe once every couple weeks.

It’s been a few weeks now, and this is the first time it’s been General Star Wars Discussion, actually.

I guess it’s commonly believed that HansiG was a sock account of Wario64, who was a master shitposter. And when Hansi was temp banned, OtakuWarrior joined, and when that was banned there was Johnny_Sasaki and then there was OtakuWarrior2. So it’s pretty likely this is another of his accounts.

So what’s that guy’s deal, anyway? Did he start out as a normal user and just got pissed when people made fun of him for liking the prequels or something?

Check out General Star Wars Discussion right now, and this CLIPPED

Jesus fucking Christ man remove that link, or at least put a warning. I’m at work! That could totally fuck someone over, I didn’t know he was posting porn I just saw the crazy thread titles.

Fuck me man.

Anyway, the approval thing is ridiculously common on forums these days. I don’t think it would be an issue, as long as there were mods actively responding to the requests.

Again, I think the wait time (whether it’s a week or a few days) is a good idea for new users in general. Send them an automated PM that says that they’re welcome here and we encourage them to read our rules and project pages and whatever. Maybe let them post in some sections but not all? They should definitely not be able to create threads or make 25 posts in their first hour.

Yeah, something needs to be done. There aren’t enough moderators online at this time of day.

Yeah, I’ve been around for his posts. Just didn’t know if there was anything that made him start acting like such a loser.

Is it just me or is it a huge neon warning sign when a member has non-ironic Hayden as an avatar?

One post per hour is too stringent. I mean, the Politics thread would be way less lively if that were the case.

Some forums require for the first 10 posts or so to be approved by a moderator.

I think this might be our best solution. It’s not too hostile to either new or old users. Now, of course, the downside to this is that a potential troller could just do their trolling after their first 10 posts and go rogue, though I think that may be too much effort to go through for a troll. The troll wants immediate entertainment reward for slight effort, and I think just having to go through this loophole may be too much effort. I like it.
