There’s a print for sale on 35mmforum if you guys are interested.

I’ve created an account over there twice now. Both times it says “awaiting approval”, but it never gets approved.

$650 + postage (in the US). Good overall condition. It’s over 3 hours though, so even the most affordable scanning options would still cost about $1K.

Did you read the rules? You have to register under your real name with a non-disposable email…

This community already has a print, courtesy of Poita (see Sept.16th post).

Also, poita says this (Sept 17th post)

poita said:

I currently have no resources or storage available for scanning it, but the print is here and looks good.

Finally, poita says this: (Sept 18th post)

The runtime is 195 minutes, that is ten reels of 35mm, it is a beast. If you want to pony up the $700 in return freight, plus funds for the HDDs and scanning, then sure thing ;^) I’d be more than happy to send it to along to them 😃

In all seriousness I don’t currently have the 30TB storage to scan it here, and my scanner needs a new driver board, so it will be on the shelf anyway till that is replaced.
If the opportunity comes up to get it scanned, I will certainly get it done, at the moment it is going to sit in the archive for a while.

So, from my reading of this last post, what is involved is the cost of freight, scanning, and HDDs.

If anyone can make this happened, I’ll be the first to do a monetary donation to the project…well, maybe not the first, but I’ll donate 😃

Good luck.

Thanks for that. 😃 It took a workaround before I was able to view the clip, as FOX had blocked it in the UK, “on copyright grounds” because as we all know, James Cameron’s Titanic has been completely prohibited from sale and viewing in the UK… 😮

You have a deal, I’ll update you once I’ve been able to review the broadcast and confirm its status.

Sounds like a plan to me. Just keep me posted.

A 2nd print is always a great option. ALWAYS!!! If you guys are passionate, the print for sale is a fraction of the cost that poita’s print was, and you can get it scanned for $1K as opposed to $700 in shipping + $1K!

I love this movie, and I would buy it myself if not for the fact that I already have half a dozen prints that need scanning!

Honestly I missed that part. I deleted my most recent registration and re-did it. How much is the print listed there for?

It’s the bit in big red capitals, so easy to miss. The print is listed for $650, exactly as I mentioned in the post you quoted!

Update time: the recording is underway and there’s good news and bad news…

The broadcast is to my surprise, uncensored with the expletives “bastards” and “horse shit” included but the first couple of minutes are missing because C4 began the broadcast earlier than billed (and even earlier than my PVR’s “padding” compensation feature). If I’d realised in time, I would’ve grabbed the time shifted +1 broadcast an hour later.

Sorry, cpalmer2k - no TV cut this time round and for everyone else, it’s uncut but missing a couple of minutes. 😦

I could always try again in a few months when the next repeat comes round or it winds up on 4SevenHD.

Well I re-did my registration, but still no approval. I guess they consider “gmail” as disposable. I’d love to discuss this print with the person listing it as that is a great deal, but I have no way of contacting them.

That would be my luck. Thanks for trying, please do keep your eyes open for the other version should it air again.

The portions that were not recorded: Would the shot in the beginning of the film where Bodine says, “You’re so full of shit, boss” be among them? That is the first expletive in the movie at 3 minutes and 19 seconds into it.

Perhaps we take the beginning parts of captures from the previous broadcasts–censored or otherwise–and edit them to your current capture.

Will do.

Just checked, Bodine’s line is there. The recording starts about a minute before that and the first dialogue heard is, “…teen meters, you should see it.” That’s an excellent idea. If Thaddäus or someone else has a copy of the previous broadcasts then this should be a doddle to fix with a bit of editing.

So there’s not very much missing in your record - it’s just the 20th Century Fox-logo and the credits. Unfortunately I deleted my 2012-record from Channel 4 HD after I got the uncut-version from SAT.1 HD and ORF1 HD, but if it helps I can cut the missing parts from one of my records and upload them somewhere. But keep in mind: My 1080i-records are slightly zoomed and have a logo outside the letterboxed-area and the ORF1-broadcast is just in 720p.

By the way: Is there a HD-version of Channel 4 +1 and 4seven via DVB-T or cable? As you know I receive them via satellite and +1 and 4seven are only availiable in (quite poor) SD there.

Hi, is there a pre-2012 open-matte version? Thanks.

Thanks for the offer, from the sounds of things, neither of those options would quite work but seeing as this year marks the 20th anniversary of the film, we’re bound to see C4 or their sister channels repeat it again at some point during 2017. 😃

In the UK, definitely: I have DVB-T2 and both 4+1 and 4seven are broadcast in HD on my free to air service. Both are also available in the UK via DVB-C2 on Virgin Media. Is there something on 4sevenHD that you wanted? If so send me a PM with the details.

I’m really surprised there aren’t more showings of “Titanic” this month with the anniversary coming up. Only one here in North America scheduled at the moment. I’m even more surprised that with this year being the 20th anniversary of the movie’s release they’re not planning to bring it back to theaters. Seems like a missed opportunity to cash in to me. Possibly a 4K UHD Blu-Ray release is around the corner? Wishful thinking I know, but we can hope

Cameron is probably too distracted with the perpetually delayed, four Avatar sequels and deliberating over the level of teal he should apply to The Abyss Blu-ray to consider capitalising on the anniversary of one of his best money-spinners.

In the meantime, the significance has not been lost on others. Here’s the line up over the next 7 days on my EPG for Titanic related content:

A Night to Remember

Titanic: The New Evidence

Titanic: Secrets Revealed

Titanic: Birth of a Legend

Titanic: Anatomy of a Disaster

Titanic: The Aftermath

The Pre-2012-version is currently running on SAT.1 HD again. It was originally scheduled for last week but has been postponed to today, exactly 105 years after the sinking. 😉

As I already expected it’s the same, slightly zoomed version they’ve been showing in the last five years as well: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/206761

Is that version censored or is it complete? Did you capture it?

That print was finally sold…at $600 + postage.

I hope that the person that bought it is one of us.

Just to keep the discussion alive I’m still interested in trading for any foreign (or domestic) HDTV airings of “Titanic” that are

A.) Complete and uncut versions of the pre-2012 version
B.) Any version that is completely edited of bad language, the drawing scene, etc.
C.) The old “Telecine” version with different coloring mentioned in a previous thread that seems to be impossible to find.

One other thought… has anybody checked the version of “Titanic” streaming on Netflix in the UK and Canada to see if it is the pre-2012 version?
