Aw rats, I thought this was a joke thread where we intentionally posted things everyone already knew.
It still could be . . . I nominate Fink Olie to start making some obvious statements in this thread.
So, what was that all about?
Moderator toga party. ;)
Where were you in '77?
Oh.
Man.
I guess I should look at those Announcements occasionally.
Yes, it's not like these things are on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet, stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard, or anything. :P

On the other hand, when there are always several announcements just sitting there, one more really doesn't get noticed.

I appreciate any and all references to HHGTTG.
The site seems to be running faster now.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Announcement:
I read the announcement about the site being offline, said to self, "Ok cool." Then I logged in today and went WTF, OT.com y u no online? Oh yeah I remember now, ok cool.
End of Announcement.
Don’t do drugs, unless you’re with me.
The front page was up, but if you tried to go the forums, you would have seen a message telling you we were offline for maintenance.
Sadly, my suggestion for an informational graphic was not used. ;)

No problem. I'll start with this:
The forum software was not updated.

In fairness to timdiggerm, the announcement was made fairly late. I only saw it literally 10 or 15 seconds before the forum went offline.
Sorry about that. It was the only window I had open.
If you see the "forum offline" message, it's intentional, not an error that needs to be reported.
Hopefully, we won't see any more outages on the new server. That was the point of the migration.

Dang, I was hoping this was the maintenance that would bring back the dark-font-on-light-background option.

I wouldn't mind that as an option, but as it is now, ot.com looks better than most forums out there, in my opinion. I don't find the light text on dark background at all hard to read, either, if that's your complaint.

Being someone with poor eyesight, the current format is hard on my eyes. Some years ago, you could choose the format, and one of the options was black on light blue -- much, MUCH easier to read and didn't leave my eyes tired. Virtually every other forum (and I read several) are dark on light, rather than light on dark. OT.com may look cool, but of all the forums I read, it is by far the hardest on my eyes.

Which caustic fellow settled on the intellectually questionable decision of subduing the chromatic variation of OT.com?
So not only was the forum software not updated, it was in fact downdated and has not been restored to its former status.
Quite obvious, really.

I see. I didn't realize it would be any harder to read light on dark than dark on light. At least it isn't white on black...that really strains the eyes....
That's particularly strange, given that white on black is often used to make things more legible for the legally (but not literally) blind
Really? Because I'm trying to read a book on a website that uses white on black and after a couple chapters the words all start swimming and I need to take a break.
I find white on black to be the easiest on my eyes. I'm happy iBooks has that option. :-)
