Guys I apologize for the confusion, but after further thought I'm almost certain I got my copy from tehparadox, not myspleen. As for the freeze halfway through, I have only watched it on vlc.

You said in a previous post that the 8gb version you have allows you to choose between the DTS 5.1 and laserdisc mono audio. If that's the case its impossible you got it off tehparadox, I never created such a release.

I just checked out the 8gb release with vlc and it works fine, no freezing at the 50+ minute mark. Nobody's mentioned anything in the release thread either and i'm sure they would have if there was such a jarring error in the encode.

Ugh, now I don't know what to think anymore. Is this real life? Haha, but seriously for whatever reason right after I posted my original post about "just getting this one instead" somehow I knew I was opening a can of worms.

Seeking clarification on whether one of my releases has an encode error is 'opening a can of worms'? There's no need to create drama where there is none.

Please just check the 8gb version you have and let us know whether it has both audio tracks or just the DTS 5.1 audio. I would like to know whether The Terminator release I have on tehparadox has any errors, as i'm sure you can appreciate. I don't want people wasting their time downloading something that is faulty.

The file has your name in the title (kk650) and the audio options are English DTS 2.1 (und) and English DTS 5.1 (English).

For some reasons, some people did their own rips and there are mono versions all over the place now. The 2.1 is kickass ;)

I downloaded the 8GB version from myspleen and was hoping to create an AVCHD with it. So far, however, neither MultiAVCHD nor TSMuxer have been able to create one. When I use MultiAVCHD, it errors out, aborting the job and stating that TSMuxer failed. When I use the TSMuxer GUI, it consistently aborts the job at about 48%. I read that when this happens sometimes you can fix it by demuxing the file, then remuxing those parts and trying again, but this seems to fail in the same place, too. Has anyone else had this issue? Thinking I may need to look for the 15GB version on tehparadox and just create a BD ...

@TylerDurden38: Thanks for the confirmation, seems its just the 8gb version on myspleen that has the freeze problem, not any of the releases on tehparadox.

@applesandrice: TSmuxer having an error at 48% sounds about around the 50 minute mark where there's a freeze on the myspleen version so that pretty much confirms that the myspleen 8gb version has a problem there.

If you're planning to write to a bd-25 it would certainly make more sense to download one of the 16gb releases that also include the mono track. They're already 1920x1080 so you should be able to create a blu-ray without needing to reencode the video, meaning no loss of image quality. The image quality of those two 16gb encodes is very nice, double the bitrate of the 8gb release, they really do look close to blu-ray quality with most of the lovely grain intact of the remastered blu-ray release.

If you liked how the 8gb version looked, go with the 16gb terminator release that doesn't have '(more neutral colours)' in the release thread title. It's the one I personally like more as well.

I downloaded lazysod's mono audio track from here (link deleted) I bought a copy of the remastered Terminator bluray, I got myself a bluray burner and a stack of 50GB BDR-DL, I spent a few hours ripping and reading tutorials, and all I got was a lovely coaster.

What I want, is to add the mono track to the commercially released bluray. That's it, nothing else. No new colors, zero compression, the full 30ish GB video but with the mono mix. If anyone can help me with this I'd be eternally grateful. Thus far multiavchd spat out a disk that showed the fox home video logos, and indeed can play back the special features and show the pop up menu, but not the feature presentation. Adding a single audio file shouldn't be this complicated.

I'd like to be able to burn this to a bluray with the menus intact. I did try adding just the 30gb mts file by itself to tsmuxer, and then adding the mono audio mkv, but I get the following "Error: This is not an EBML file (id=32766/440786851"

kk650's Terminator project in the 16gb version with 2.1 audio just went up on the spleen.

Hello, guys.

Is that 2.1 mono track available on Usenet? While at it, is that regraded version on Usenet as well?

And finally, I wonder... Would it be technically possible to make a custom mix based on the 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio which is on the Blu-ray, except replacing the modern gunshots with the old 1984 gunshots from the mono track?

That's quite a cool idea actually. I kinda liked some of the surround sound elements in the 5.1 mix, but always felt it was ruined by the  new gun sound effects. A middle ground of the two could work very well.

Eh for me it's more than the gun sound effects. During the opening in the future, the synths are missing in the 5.1, you only hear the ambiance (specifically the shot of the unnamed solider running). During the part when Kyle and Sarah escape the police station I don't think I could hear the main synths (the sounds that give the scene a sense of urgency) but I gotta double check on that. And during the end of the last chase when Sarah runs over the Terminator, I can't hear the "mechanical noise" as the truck flips over (when Sarah screams). Instead I hear music that I've never noticed before (the loud drums).

That's just off the top of my head. This is one of my top 5 movies ever, and having watched it probably over 700 times (I was born in '84), as well as someone who has an eye and ear for this sorta thing (even as a child I could point out things like bloopers and stuff) I can say for sure that the problems with the 5.1 mix go way beyond simply the new gunshot sound effects.

That being said, I d-loaded this and browsed through it yesterday and I noticed in certain shots that the teal look is still there. Towards the end of the first chase, during the part when Kyle is getting away from the other police car, one shot looked teal then the next shot following it immediately had a natural palette (extinguishing my doubts as to whether this was how it was supposed to look). Thankfully though this video doesn't close halfway through when Sarah finds out her friends are dead.

OK, Tyler. Then, if it's technically possible, one could also restore the things you said on top of the original gunshots, right?

The original mono audio featured the prominent sound of scraping metal during the opening credits sequence.  It's not there in the 5.1 mix.

I hope so. Look, I'd love a 5.1 mix of the mono track just as much as everyone else. I'm only stating that's it's more than just the obvious stuff like the gunshot sound FX. It's probably a bunch of things that none of us have noticed like the sounds of cars slamming into each other during the chase scenes, new scream sound effects in the b.g during the big shootout at the station, and I don't think anyone has ever mentioned the new explosion sound effect when Kyle makes the Terminator a'splode.

OK, but come on, not everything is garbage in that 5.1 mix. Like most people, I don't mind the new explosion sounds and other stuff. I'm just talking about the obvious annoyances: the gunshots that are well known, especially the Terminator's gun with laser sighting and the one near the end when he's on the bike, shooting in the rearview mirror. Maybe also the shootout in Tech Noir and the music stuff in the prologue you mentioned, that I had not notice. Just like you, I wish we could have a 5.1 or 7.1 mix, like the one on Jaws, created with original sound elements. But that ain't gonna happen. So if someone could make an in-between custom mix, that would be very cool.

At least they provided the original mono audio in a DTS 2.0 track on the JAWS Blu-ray.  It sounds great.  But you're absolutely right.  They left great parts of the soundtrack out of both the JAWS 5.1 and 7.1 mixes, namely the examples in that YT clip... replaced with weaker and more generic sound effects.  The JAWS mono audio was always a terrific mix.  I'm no fan of the new mixes at all.

I understand where you're coming from, and I'm sure if I did a side-by-side comparison, I'd probably find certain new sound effects that I prefer (like the aforementioned explosion) but there's so many different fan edits of the Star Wars special editions since everyone has their own individual tastes of which new stuff works and what doesn't, that's it's just a nightmare to keep up with. So for me, an "all or nothing" type of deal is the only realistic way to go. But FWIW, if someone DID re-intergate the proper gunshots and explosions, but kept everything else with the 5.1, I'd be ok with that to.

on the rare occasion that I have swapped between the 5.1 and 1.0 mixes in a single ten second scene, the truck's horn when Sarah and Kyle had hitchhiked from is a completely different pitch (and obviously not the same one) ... also, the gun-sounds in the future bunker are different, of which each have their own merits, but the original version is more suited in the 80s that it came from.

anyway, is there surely a media player that can play two audio tracks (first on left speaker, second on right speaker) so that I can truly blow my mind in the way that The Terminator first did when I was only 13yo?

Many thanks.

I'd honestly love to hear the conversation in the editing room. It's such a ridiculous and unnecessary edit. What could possible have been said to make that happen?

"I never liked the horn sound when Kyle and Sarah are dropped off".

"We can fix it James".

What was the official statement about the change in gunshot sounds anyway? Something about making the guns sound more like they did in part 2? I think I read that somewhere but can't confirm. Not for nothing, shouldn't continuity mean that the gunshots in 2 should sound more like 1? Similarly, instead of making the matrix more green so it looks like the sequels, that should be the other way around as well.
