Yes this is truly one of the great films. What an odd and awesome cast! I've never read the novel that it was based on but I heard it was very cool as well.

I have always loved this film and it is just too quotable. You gotta love that fact.

I consider Princess Bride as one of the greatest movies ever made. It is certainly one of the funniest and most inventive. The DVD has a great documentary that has the cast talking about Andre the Giant.

Forgot about your signature. The scene with the iocane poison is priceless. "Never go up against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line...Ah ha, ah ha, ah h.........*thump*

The cast was perfect, although Robin Wright was kind of blaise. Billy Crystal and Carol Kane were awesome.

I forgot I had that as my signature. God, Wallace Shawn was great in that movie, wasn't he?

I first saw that movie when I was about five, and it's always been one of my favorites. One time, when I was in 8th grade, they let us watch it, and a bunch of people in the class thought it sucked. I just sat there and thought "What the hell is wrong with you people?!"

Hell, Wallace Shawn is great in anything he's in, isn't he? Taxi, The Cosby Show, The Incredibles. I'd love to see more of that guy.

And funny this topic should spring up just now since I'm in the middle of staging my own Wonder Years marathon at the moment.

I've never heard of this movie before... At least I don't think so, I don't seem to remember it... I think it's quite unavailable over here...

You won't be sorry. A nice little movie. No profanity, good story and plot. Mis-matched but well cast actors (that's part of the fun with these whacky characters). Directed by Rob Reiner, of the tv series "All in the Family" fame.

Well, since we're talking about Rob Reiner as a director, I think "of This Is Spinal Tap fame" would be more appropriate.

That's the film I know him from, I never saw him on TV.

Out of curiosity, was "Princess Bride" a hit at the box office or a miss that amassed a great cult following like "Buckaroo Banzai"?

Has anyone read the book on which the film was based? I think there are like two different versions, an original and a "good parts" version.

You know, if they were making TPB now, it would probably star Orlando Bloom or some WB boy as Westley (played by Cary Elwes originally) and some underfed girl as a tougher, more feminist type Buttercup (originally Robin Wright Penn).

It was well receieved to begin with, but over the years it got even more popular.

There are two different books, the original and Morgenstern's "The good parts" version. Never actually read it.

You're right about a modern remake. They'd do the "multicultural" version, with the evil prince being a conservative white male Christian gun owner, while Buttercup would be played by the "hip-hop" star of the week like Christina Milian, or someone.

From what I've heard its a pretty bare bones DVD, and the transfer isn't great.

But it is on sale for 10 bucks at most places, so its still worth a buy.

Actually the spec ed dvd is pretty nice. Pic quality is good, and the extras are excellent, IMO.

In the commentary, Rob Reiner mentioned he was leaving a dinner. A wiseguy from the Mafia ominously approached Rob, looked him in the eye and said:

"You killed my father. Prepare to die."
