The Phantom Menace

I'm just curious, has anyone tried to restore their TPM DVD to the original theatrical release?

I mean editing out the added crap to the DVD release such as the added podrace lap, air taxi, etc.

My stance on revising fan edits.

No I liked the added material.

I haven't, but that's mainly because

1) The changes don't really bother me that much because they're just added scenes, so it's not like The Phantom Menace is some huge classic that Lucas screwed with completely after twenty years.

2) Even if I wanted to edit that stuff out, there's no way I could, because I wouldn't have a clue where to even begin, though I'm hoping to learn eventually so I can make my own special little version of the original trilogy when the DVD's out (keeping the few good SE changes like removed matte lines and transparency in the Battle of Hoth, and replacing the ultra crappy ones like Greedo shooting first and Luke's wimpy scream with their original versions).

And also, if I really want to watch the original version of The Phantom Menace without the edited stuff, I still have a widescreen VHS tape of it.

Saying that because The Phantom Menace is a younger movie makes changes more justified is a very stupid arguement. Its another Star Wars movie.

But if you read my post carefully, you'll see that I also said that they don't bother me because they're just added scenes and it's not like Lucas is completely screwing with TPM. I don't have a problem with added scenes that were left out of the theatrical version like TPM had. Like I said in another thread, the problem is when existing scenes are modified or replaced entirely.

I'd like to get my hands on a copy of the Balance Of The Force Edit - just to see how different it is from the official version of TPM

The Attack of the Clones DVD also contains a change. It addes a line "To be angry is to be human" and then "I am a jedi I know Im better then this" This line was not in any theatrical print. In my opinion it improved the scene. Like most of Lucases changes.

After Padme fell out of the clone fighter transport, and the clone asks is she's ok, her reaction was changed from "yes" to "uh huh".

Kinda stupid, but I really don't care. It's just *one* line.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Filthy Lucases changes the Star Warses and replaces original characterses with CG that looks faker than Smeagol. I says we kill the Lucases!

Damn Luke, you're slow!

I was thinking it as soon as I read "Lucases" and knew where Gun was going as soon as I saw the word "filthy."

Nice one, Gun!

I am new to these boards, but I thought I would like to point out one thing about The Attack of the Clones dvd.
These lines were in the Theatrical version shown in cinemas which had digital projectors. The version available on dvd is one of the versions shown in cinemas so it was taken from a theatrical cut and was not just added for dvd.

Not true. That line was in no theatrical print of any kind.

Below I have included a link to an article from the official Star Wars website which show that the version of episode 2 on dvd was shown in digital cinemas.

"Star Wars fans fortunate enough to have seen Episode II in a digital theater will be happy to know that the D-cinema version of the movie -- which differed from the standard film print version -- formed the basis of the DVD master. "The digital version of the film is on this DVD, but there are also some additional, minor changes. You're going to have to figure those out for yourself," says Ward. "

this is the last paragraph of the article you mentioned, didn't want to shoot you down, but the second last sentence unfortunateley proves you wrong.

That proves me right. Its called reading. Its a nice thing to do. The digital cinema version included sparks out of Jangos jet pack and a scene of Padme grabing Anakins hand which were not in the film version. The added line "To be angry is to be human was not in the digital cinema movie"
