I threw together a freebie website today. The goal is to act as an easily navigatable warehouse for the various DVD covers designed by... whoever it is that designs covers.

PM me for submission instructions, if'n ya wants to.

Thanks man. It's still kinda oogly, 'cause I've been preoccupied today (man, they were right when they said that the TR47s look better when you actually burn them to DVD-r and watch 'em on a TV...), but I'm working on it. Slowly but surely.

Jesus, I wish I didn't have to go through a banner-laden freebie site for this shit though. Maybe some day I'll drop the $100 or so and get my own webspace.

except that I don't use firefox... hence the nonstandard browser comment

I just use what I have and don't bother to install new software that does exactly the same thing as what I've already got

You should really try Firefox... it renders pages much more faster than IE, has a built-in Popup Ad Blocker which dramatically reduces the infection of Spyware, does not support ActiveX or "Install on Demand" which has plagued IE for years, has tabbed browsing which is the shizzle and it and its Mozilla HTML Rendering enzine are far more standards based than Microsoft... and this is coming from a long time Microsoft fan who has programmed in Web Development for years. I used to always use IE as my base to ensure compatibility and with Firefox I have begun to learn how far off Microsoft is from really being a "standards based browser".

Do yoursef a favor, install Firefox. If for anything, do it for security. I have installed Firefox on my home computer, work, my parent's and my mother-in-law's computer to help keep them free of spyware. I have always supported IE but am quickly moving over to the "IE is a plague" camp.

Strong IE proponents will tell you that Firefox supports "extensions" which can modify behavior in the browser and thus opens a hole for security problems but for now, IE is the target. We all know the virus and spyware writers are focussing in on IE which is a very easy target so switching to a browers that doesn't have a "kick me" sign written all over it will not be a bad move

Great cover site by the way... now lets fill'er up

Great work Rebel Rouser

Looking forward to seeing even more covers than have been posted on here over the past few months

Is it worth considering putting 'Letterbox Widescreen' after the TR47 bit and 'Anamorphic Widescreen' after Dr Gonzo - may certainly help anyone not aware of the differencses.

Cool ot.com banner too.

On BadAsh71's suggestion, I suppose I'll give Firefox a shot... so far he's been running pretty low on the bullshit factor around here.

And after a full night's sleep, I'm ready to dive headfirst into the site for the afternoon. Wish me luck!

AMEN! I can't stand IE on a Mac. And Safari has more than its fair share of problems. I've been running Camino lately which is the Mozilla Mac browser. A couple very minor issues in how it lays out some text, but tolerable considering the IE and Safari problems I've had.

Alright, I've gone over a few technical details and realized that this site can't work as a freebie, or at least that the bandwidth and storage space involved can only work if a lot of the files to be hosted are compressed down to 1/3rd their current sizes (just look at the detail I had to kill on my covers to get them below 1meg).

So what I've decided is that maybe I can break everything down into zip files, grouped by designer or version or something, and have the site itself act as a thumbnail gallery, with a bunch of smallish Torrent links to get the covers themselves.

The goal is to have everything all in one place, easily navigatable, and avoiding the trouble of having to browse through 50+ pages of off-tangent messages to find anything.

Anybody who has suggestions should offer them now. Or if anybody would like to come forward with the URL of that image hosting site I read about in passing a few days ago (and promptly forgot), the one that hosts images bigger than 1 meg, that would probably solve all the problems right there.

Thanks guys!

I think you are on the right track, the thumbnail gallery with links to torrent locations would probably present the best functionality with out denting anyone's wallet. Unless someone has server space to lend the cause. Once the sight is up you could potentially open it up to many different artist to post their work...

Oh, it is up!

And it is open to other artist's work, y'just gotta get in touch with me about submissions (I don't want my email addy sitting open to attack on an internet message board, y'know?)

Remember folks, PM me if you want your work up on the site.

I believe the site you were referring to was this one:

Alright, I think I just came up with a solution... anybody who wants their covers hosted, needs to upload them to some sort of image hosting site (possibilities listed below), and then PM or e-mail me the url (my addy will be up on the site shortly).

I'll make the thumbnails as per what fits my site's scheme, and tag it with the link, so we'll still have a central site for finding everything, and my workload for maintenance will be cut down to 10% or so, making this all go a thousand times faster. Not to mention I'll actually be able to make this work using free web hosting. Boo yaa.

FYI, I'm looking for DVD covers, labels, chapter inserts and even standard CD case inserts (sometimes it's handier that way) for everything from OT-transfers to re-edits. Get them images hosted and submitted folks!

Lookn' good RR

Now, if we can get some people to post covers.

I have a hard drive that went out a while back that has some cool covers my wife and I created. I will have to hook it up this weekend and see if I can recover them.

I have a really cool set of covers for the Ewok movies that matches the "official" DVDs. Instead of "Star Wars" my wife opted to put "Ewoks" with the volume number just like on the "official" DVDS. We used the gold top and bottom borders and gold letter spine. Pretty cool but unfortunately I never printed them for myself before the hard drive failed. The only copy around is the set I printed for a friend at work

OK, so I can't get the back button to work on your site with Firefox. But complaining about that goes against your "derogatory comment" at the bottom.

Anyway, I was thinking of submitting my covers, but they're not for any of the versions you have up there. I have finished versions of alternate TPM and AOTC covers, as well as some unfinished ones for the official dvd's. Would you be interested in these?

Zion- Actually, the fact that something as fundemental as the back button is not working probably would constitute a valid complaint, regardless of what browser you're using (*heh*heh*)... the IE6 comment is mostly in regards to the fact that it's all free and I'm just doing what i can with the limited abilities of a free site and my existing software. Sorry man, I'm using the only HTML editor I have... been meaning to bootleg Dreamweaver or something, but for now I'm stuck with FrontPage (icky poo, I know). So thanks for the heads up on that one! Also, I think that it could possibly be Tripod's fault, since I've been having trouble getting the "open link in new window" setting to work consistantly, and this is the first time that's ever happened.

As for what covers you're looking to submit, the catagories that are there so far are mostly just placeholders until I get more content. I'm looking to make it a site for just about ANY Star Wars covers... kinda like CDCovers.com, only more focused. So by all means, PM me the details!

RR,

What are the chances of an "Isomix" cover variant of your wonderful deisgn? I know you're facing bigger issues such as webspacehostingtorrentzipcrap, but if you have the time, my shelf would appreciate it. Thanks for your site!

Yeah, I'll be working on some ISOMIX covers just as soon as Empire and Jedi are released. I've also been working on a few other covers and collecting links for submissions, but this as been one hell of a week, (quit job, pregnant wife, attending greatest concert of my life,) and I've got a little catching up to do.
