The Goonies

Anyone ever see The Goonies? It's a movie by Spielberg, I think. Or Zemeckis. Can't remember which one. Classic 80's cheese. We used to have a guy at work that reminded us of Sloth. Whenever he'd walk in the room we'd be like "Hey you guuuuuyyyys!!"

I love the Goonies. Chunk was my favorite. Mouth was good too. It's hard to believe that Sean Astin from LotR played Mikey.

Yup! Great film... just one of those adventerous, feel-good, weird movies! Some good stuff on the DVD too- I'd pick it up if you haven't already.

Spielberg produced. Richard Donner directed (The Toy, Superman, Lethal Weapon).

The Goonies is one of my all-time favorites because it was made back when kids in film were allowed to behave like real kids and not like stupid cartoon characters.

I bought the DVD the day it came out. It was a close call too because Warner Bros. originally planned it as a full-screen release. Donner found out right before its scheduled release and demanded they make it widescreen. I'd never seen it in widescreen, so the DVD was a real pleasure.

I know what you mean. It's not like a realy ground breaking movie with an amazing story, but it's one of those "feel good" movies that is just fun to watch. Like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

One of my earilest memories as a kid is watching Goonies on VHS when it was released, eating pasta, on a sunday at noon. I remember this as if it was yesterday...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

And also before they became Rhodes Scholars. The kids in today's movies have conversations that most 30 year olds I know don't have. Don't get me going on the teenagers. The message seems to be "Give your teens whatever they want, and everything will be ooooookaaaay".

Also, I do own the DVD, however I haven't watched it yet.

Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin

Geez yeah- I'm HORRIBLE about that. Stupid collector mentality! I'm at a point now where I'd need a two-week vacation (with my wife gone out of town by herself), lots of Diet Pepsi, popcorn and maybe some Nutter Butters just to start *thinking* about catching up!

Ew, Diet Pepsi.

I have a bad habbit of watching a new DVD about 5 times the first week I have it, and then not watching it for like, a year. I need to try and balance it out.

Goonies is one of those great movies that never seems to age. There are always going to be the Chunks, the Datas and the Mouths as we go through life meeting new people.

I enjoyed the DVD very much because they had practically the entire cast for the commentary, and they had some great stories to tell:
1. Jeff Coehn (Chunk) ran for class president in high school, using "I was Chunk" as his slogan and he won.
2. Robert Davi (Jake Fratelli...the one with hair) tells how in the prep for one scene he's told "Ok, Anne Ramsey (Moma Fratelli) is going to slap on the face. Now she's old and kind of frail so you need to make sure it looks good. Now, he's ready for a soft hit to the face, and it turns out she really walloped him hard. He had no idea it was coming.
3. About half way through, Sean Astin mysteriously disappears from the commentary. Corey Feldman makes the comment that he had to leave to get back to shooting on Lord of the Rings.
4. Being the kids that they were, there was a line in the movie that they loved and they apparently spent a couple weeks just beating the line to death, using it over and over. It was Data's "You know, I'm wondering what's in the bag?"
