As soon as I can afford it, I’m having 3D-compatible laser eye surgery.

Oh, dude, you got strabismus Frink? Sorry to hear that.
Good luck with the procedure–I think you’ll love 3D!

There is allegedly a test the eye doctor can do to check if your eyes are attuned to the 3D experience. I suspect my eyes struggle more than others but maybe I just don’t enjoy it.

Well, there’s no shortage of crazy pop-out effect movies to test yourself out on. It’s quite possible to see the effect and fail to see the point of the effect, which is where I’ve pretty much landed on every “You just have to see this in 3D!” movie. Assuming you can see the effect, it’s just a matter of finding the type of film it where you can see the point of the effect (which is subjective), and then whether you actually like that type of film (which is also subjective). If I opt to see TFA, it’ll definitely be in 2D.

For me it takes some time/effort for things to come together and not be so disorienting (and I don’t know if that’s normal for the 3D experience) and then I feel it requires some concentration on my part.
I think the last movie I saw in 3D was Boxtrolls. At some point in that movie, either I stopped really noticing it or to the extent I did, I didn’t see the point. So it’s not that I can’t see it at all, but it seems to require an effort.

The blue elephant in the room.

One criticism I’ve read of modern 3D films, is that they are too timid in doing the pop out shots. One reason the classic stuff (when shown properly) blows it off the map.

A trip to the toy aisle to sample a Viewmaster set might be cheaper than seeing an eye doctor. Just avoid the AOTC and ROTS sets. 😉

See I’m planning on doing both…I’m going on opening day to a standard theater to see it, and then oh Christmas day I’m going to see it in IMAX 3D so i guess well see which one looks better and which one works out.

My biggest complaint with this whole release is that it appears all marathon showings are 1-6 in 2D with 7 in 3D. I just want to see all 7 in 2D 😦

Yes, that was a drawback for me too. 2D for the Marathon and 3D for TFA. I went ahead and just sprung for 2D TFA tickets at 7:30 for after the Marathon because I refuse to watch it in 3D.

I personally feel like that’s a gimmick and not for me. I’m grateful for the 2D option as I feel it is more of a pure experience. To each his own though.

I’m gonna see The Force Awakens in 2D. I don’t support 3D if it the movie was shot in 2D and then converted to 3D in Post-Production.

Even if the director WANTS to use 3D convertion? For example I heard Nolan saying that if he ever releases a movie in 3D it will probably be a convertion because he thinks he will have a better control on the effects he wants.

I’ve seen the film twice in DolbyVision so far. I was unable to make the 3d imax screening but 2 associates claimed that the dolby was better than the imax. I think its only playing dolby till next friday when Leo’s Revenant goes in these few theaters. If you can make it by then I don’t think you will be disappointed. Some Dolby Vision is in 3d which should be fine. My theater in NY wasn’t.The seats shake with all the rumbling throughout the film and they are cushy recliners.

I’d like to know how that even happens. A post of nothing but that text is easy to understand, sort of - hit the post button without typing anything (although why you’d do that I don’t know). But as soon as you start typing it goes away…so how?

JEDIT:
Maybe it’s a FF noscript thing?

I saw it in 2D.
I can’t imagine the extra price and uncomfortable squinting would improve the movie much.
