To be fair, I wouldn’t expect anything but Terrible Cover Art from a (presumably) Terrible DVD or Blu-ray.

Some of those '33 Kong covers aren’t bad at all!

The '76 ones at least use some elements of the original poster art.

I thought that last one that totally spoils the ending actually said LGBT King Kong. I don’t think the pictures on the back are from the movie?

And again Carlo Rambaldi gets credit for the effects when his giant mechanical monkey barely worked at all and is in only in a few shots of the movie. It’s a wonder if Rick Baker never sued over that.

I caught the last few minutes of this movie of TV decades ago.

Sadly, I can neither affirm nor deny its terriblificness.

I caught the last few words of your double post a minute ago.

Gladly, I can both affirm and deny its terriblificness.

If not for E.T., we wouldn’t have the heartwarming film Pod People. 😉

This is what the space jockeys should look like… Podmetheus

Rambaldi also designed the mechanical effects of the animatronic mask that Rick Baker wore.

Some amusing Christmas-sweater slipcovers I got on some cheap Blus at Walmart today.

King Kong Lives is a very unneeded sequel and unintentionally hilarious.

Haha, I saw those “ugly sweater covers” myself today. Sometimes the holiday season brings some nifty “limited time” sets, sometimes it brings some hideous ones. These are kind of in the middle for me, in that the novelty is amusing, but they’ll look dumb a month or so after Christmas, with some exceptions (something like Christmas Vacation or Home Alone, for instance).

I saw this Godfather set today, too, which bugs me simply because the logo is wrong - the bar on top of the “G” doesn’t come as close to the “D” as it should. The art itself is alright, but the incorrect logo really grinds my gears. (The first DVD set that came out back in the day had the same problem for some reason.)

I initially misread that as Godfarter.

Clearly it ought to be Raphael on the cover. And anyone born after 2000 is going to have trouble with the concept of rewind. 😉

I think the rewind double entandre is quite clever. It’s like the Sirius radio channel Classic Rewind plays music from the 80s, the cassette tape era. 90s are the VHS era.

Damn, missed that concept by one year!

Rewind is still generally used to describe skipping backward in a video or movie. I don’t think the post-VHS youth would struggle with it.

For the first six or so years of my life my family for whatever reason didn’t buy a DVD player and all we had was a VCR, and I’ve still got all my copies of the Star Wars films on VHS up on my shelf. Still looking for that Revenge of the Sith VHS though…

DVD players didn’t get cheap until well into the early 2000’s. Would like to know what the last major studio VHS release was in the U.S.
