But wait – there’s a DCP-sourced V2 of the Empire grindhouse. It’s a WMV, unfortunately, but isn’t it an upgrade to V1?

The way I understand it, the WMV pre-dates Grindhouse. Its not DCP-sourced, but rather created as a DCP for a private screening that was held a few years ago.

I could be wrong, as I’m going from vague memories of things I read a while ago. There seemed to be a couple of different ‘older’ versions released after Grindhouse and I wasn’t paying too much attention. I am sure that Grindhouse has only had one version thus far, though.

Correct. It’s a different scan and lower quality.

FYI, the NFO of that wmv starts:

=========================================================
The Empire Strikes Back - Grindhouse (version 2-DCP sourced)

Welcome to our second official release, the 35mm version
of The Empire Strikes Back.

January 2015,

As a thank you to the OT community, and our fans, we are releasing another early version of the movie. We hope…

So I’m not sure exactly what this is, but it says version 2 (whereas the previous grindhouse was called “v1” within the filename I think).

It was released after the better release as an alternative option. It’s not ‘version 2’ of the same work, just a second grindhouse version.

That’s what was confusing me – thanks for clarifying, towne32.
Grabbed a Usenet post called “ESB_Grindhouse_1080p_BD25”, and it looks great.
Now I can do a scanned OT mini-marathon before watching TFA!

except for the glitches at the last scene.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

The BD25 is the fixed version.

The fixed version is a BD image, yes.
The usenet post (and former torrent) whose name is “ESB_Grindhouse_1080p_BD25”
is the .mkv in 4:2:2 color space with glitches at the last scene

Oh OK. I didn’t remember that one being labeled as such. Kinda misleading but yep, the mkv is glitches.

So what you are saying is the BD25 version ditches the glitches that the bitches originally put in and stitches a glitches free version that hitches along in a BD25 format instead of the incompatible mkv that pitches itself as a great version but really is a witches brew of riches and glitches?

Damn! Wish I could just grab the Santized version and be done with it.
Is the corrected one the ISO called TN1’s ESB Grindhouse 1080p BD - “20150112”?

Yes, named for the date the torrent was seeded.
BTW 'spleen is having another free leech this week, and that one isn’t deleted (yet).
Shhh-- don’t tell the former member, the one who left… LOL

I feel like those Torrents on Spleen were deleted on purpose and not because there are upgrades of them coming. Certainly not for ALL of them but y’know, prove me wrong and re-post them! 😉

Maybe someone can point me to an alternative download location of the ISO version without the glitches in the end scenes…?

^ that repack is excellent, it has the latest mono synched by Althor.

Are you sure about that?
The big .mkv file is identical to NiceGuy’s (deleted) 'spleen one.
Is there a mono track included in the Repack archive, that’s not muxed into the .mkv ?

hmmm, not really 😃
The one I’m referring to is Althor’s 720p re-encode with the latest mono track only.
I thought that was it.

I agree althor’s is excellent:
Star.Wars.1977.Silver.Screen.Edition.35mm.v1.720p.gout.synced.torrent

It’s not yet in a.b.starwars to my knowledge.
Over the years althor has been prolific usenet poster; that’s main reason
why I haven’t taken upon myself to upload it. I’d be happy to do
especially if the former member, the one who left <LOL>, would pull strings
to have it deleted from 'spleen
