TV Shows on DVD

I for one think they are a good thing, there are some damn good shows that I've missed over the years, or were just too young(or not born at all) to fully comprehend or appreciate the content(or catch them during syndication for that matter).

I have found that since these have started coming out in such a broader scale than they were, say three years ago, that I've been watching more TV than I ever have, just not what is broadcasted currently.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

Also, what shows on DVD have you gotten that have surprised you? Which ones are just not what you remember them to be?

Not exactly before my time, but I was rather young: the Batman Animated Series. I watched it most of my childhood, but I never really understood how great it was until I rewatched it recently on the DVDs.

I love TV shows on DVD. So far I have the first three seasons of Boy Meets World and the first season of Cheers. And unlike all the tapes of TV shows that I've recorded in my lifetime, I can have my marathons without worrying about what syndication and bad recording timing cuts out. Since I've been in college I find, too, that I spend more TV watching time doing this instead of watching current TV.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Oddly, most of the tv dvd sets I own are recent shows. I only say oddly because that seems to be against what other people are saying. I'm finding myself drawn into some of the shows that seem made for DVD release. Lost is a perfect example of that. I watched a few episodes when it was on, but really couldn't follow it because I would be out of the house. Owning it on DVD, though, is awesome. It really is a great show and one of many that seem made for DVD. Look at the new BSG. They're releasing a season 2.0 dvd before the end of the season, and then 2.5 later on! More and more, tv shows are becoming events, and are being marketed toward the DVD audience.

The only TV show on DVD I really, really want, and was unable to get so far, was the Monty Python box set...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I love TV shows on DVD. There have been some surprises and some letdowns. I picked up the first season of Veronica Mars and it's incredible. However, Quantum Leap was not at all what I remembered and I wound up selling it.

I have the first two seasons of Have Gun Will Travel. That was a '60's western that I watched with my Dad on saturday afternoon reruns. It features a gunfighter named Paladin, who had a card with a chess knight on it. It is a great show and one that has been sadly forgotten for the most part. Waiting patiently for the third season to come out in January. I also have the first season of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who has watched Have Gun Will Travel on here, Bossk.

The TV show I really, really want on DVD more than anything is... The Star Wars Holiday Special. I know, I know. But, if everyone's cleaning out the vaults like they have been recently, Lucasfilm might as well. Even if it's just a limited, low-profile release like "R2-D2: Beneath the Dome" was.

It's not going to happen, Adam. Even Lucas despises that debacle.

It might. When 2007 rolls around, Rick McCallum talked of how they were planning to release all past Star Wars specials/making ofs/TV work, etc. This would include the complete Droids/Ewoks animated series, which I would also like to see on DVD.

Myself, I want the holiday special on DVD so bad, I asked Leland Chee at the OS if he can put a word in about it.

TV shows on DVD are great. I have lots of them, too many to count. They range from DVD's that I've bought, to DVD's that I "borrow". If I watch them more then once I normally end up buying the set (that happened to Dark Angel S1-2, Dougie Howser S1-2, Who's the Boss S1, and I plan to buy Freaks & Geeks soon). The 1st sets I bought were The X-Files which I own S1-4. I'd buy the rest, but they're so damn expensive. My favorite set is Buffy the Vampire Slayer S1-7 which I own. I also own The Simpsons 1-6, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica S1, Lost S1, and some others. They need to release more seasons of Who's the Boss, that's such a great show. I definetly plan to buy Growing Pains S1 and SeaQuest DSV S1 when they come out in the next few months. Like I said, TV shows are great on DVD.

Another show I am greatly looking forward to on DVD is The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. From what Rick McCallum said, the DVD's will be excellent presentations of that TV series, with PLENTY of docmentaries/bonus features to go along with it. I do hope, however, that Lucas and co. don't try to re-edit the episodes like they did for the VHS release back in 99'. They tried to cut out 93 year old Indy from every episode!

But with 22 DVD's, this better be a damn fine collection for the price it'll be.

So you're saying you wouldn't be in favor of changes in that particular case...?

You are correct. In this case, he was removing an interesting part of the episodes, which was the old Indy. Sometimes I like changes, sometimes I don't.

I'm hoping my brother took part in the deal that was offered on Black Friday. He was going in to get his fiance a new cellphone at Best Buy and I told him that if he wanted to pick me up a birthday gift, he could nab me seasons 1-3 of The Shield. They were going for only $19.99 each. Great flippin' deal.

I consider TV on DVD a mixed blessing, but overall am glad for it. It allowed me to discover Firefly.

I told my wife the other day I would LOVE to have "House" on DVD. That show is great.

I know that Greatest American Hero has been out for awhile. I should buy that as well.

I've been wanting to get the Golden Collections as well, but I'm going to wait and see if I can catch them on sale.

I have to get all the seasons of Alias on DVD still, including the aborted 5th season.

I have to agree with Darth Simon about House, and not just cause he's my brother . I am currently catching up on Season 1, been following 2 on tv. As a college student and not having a job 40 bucks isn't in my budget either. MeBeJedi is def right about that show being great. Hugh Laurie is an awesome actor, and did ya'll know that he is British and he is faking that American Accent. Read the hardest things for him are using the cane and doing that accent.

About TV on DVD, I'm def for it. I have Batman: The Animated Series, every volume out and planning on getting the final volume when it comes out. I have seasons 1 & 2 of Fresh Prince, also gonna get season 3 when it come out valentines day. I have Full House (yes, I admit it, but I liked that show). I would get so many more but as someone mentioned they do tend to be expensive. There is also the problem that there is soo much that I would like to get. But I definitely think that TV on DVD is great because, for me at least concerning old shows, it either brings back memories or gives me that comfy feeling inside .
