Info & Idea: Star Wars Trilogy - Despecialized Edition DVD-9 ISOs

So that we now have the Despecialized Editions, I have a really interesting idea.

I can’t actually do it since my PC is not that strong but at the very least I can contribute.

The Despecialized Editions only come in three flavors (720p Blu-ray compliant MKV, 20-something GB, 720p AVCHD, DVD-9, DVD-Video DVD-5).

The problem is that the DVD-5 version is a bit below the standards of an official DVD (not to mention it only includes the 5.1 mix for each movie) and the AVCHD cannot be played on regular DVD players.

I wanted something similar to Dark_Jedi’s Theatrical DVDs but with the Despecialized Editions.

My idea for this is the highest quality we can achieve with DVD.

Here’s my idea for each movie:

  1. Star Wars

Video:
2:37:1 Anamorphic Widescreen 480p

Audio:

  1. English (5.1ch Surround/DTS) (1977 70mm six track mix)
  2. English (5.1ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1977 70mm six track mix)
  3. English (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1977 35mm Dolby Stereo mix)
  4. English (1.0ch Monoaural/Dolby Digital) (1977 35mm mono mix)
  5. English (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1985 LaserDisc mix)
  6. English (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1993 LaserDisc mix)
  7. German (2.0ch Stereo/Dolby Digital) (1978 dub reconstruction)
  8. Japanese (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1978 dub)
  9. Music (2.0ch Stereo/Dolby Digital) (Isolated score)
  10. English (2.0ch Stereo/Dolby Digital) (1993 LD Audio Commentary - silence filled with 1993 LD 2.0)

Subtitles:

  1. English
  2. English SDH
  3. German
  4. Japanese
  5. German (Forced)
  6. Japanese (Forced)
  7. German (Audio Commentary)
  8. Japanese (Audio Commentary)

Extras:
None to preserve the quality of the movie with the highest bitrate.
Maybe there will be a bonus disc for each movie but I am not sure.

  1. The Empire Strikes Back

Video:
2:37:1 Anamorphic Widescreen 480p

Audio:

  1. English (5.1ch Surround/DTS) (1980 mix)
  2. English (5.1ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1980 mix)
  3. English (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1980 mix)
  4. English (1.0ch Monoaural/Dolby Digital) (1980 16mm mono mix)
  5. English (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1993 LaserDisc mix)
  6. German (2.0ch Stereo/Dolby Digital) (1980 dub reconstruction)
  7. Japanese (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1980 dub)
  8. Music (2.0ch Stereo/Linear PCM) (Isolated score)
  9. English (2.0ch Stereo/Dolby Digital) (1993 LD Audio Commentary - silence filled with 1993 LD 2.0)

Subtitles:

  1. English
  2. English SDH
  3. German
  4. Japanese
  5. German (Forced)
  6. Japanese (Forced)
  7. German (Audio Commentary)
  8. Japanese (Audio Commentary)

Extras:
None to preserve the quality of the movie with the highest bitrate.
Maybe there will be a bonus disc for each movie but I am not sure.

  1. Return of the Jedi

Video:
2:37:1 Anamorphic Widescreen 480p

Audio:

  1. English (5.1ch Surround/DTS) (1983 mix)
  2. English (5.1ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1983 mix)
  3. English (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1983 mix)
  4. English (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1993 LaserDisc mix)
  5. German (2.0ch Stereo/Dolby Digital) (1983 dub reconstruction)
  6. Japanese (2.0ch Surround/Dolby Digital) (1983 dub)
  7. Music (2.0ch Stereo/Linear PCM) (Isolated score)
  8. English (2.0ch Stereo/Dolby Digital) (1993 LD Audio Commentary - silence filled with 1993 LD 2.0)

Subtitles:

  1. English
  2. English SDH
  3. German
  4. Japanese
  5. German (Forced)
  6. Japanese (Forced)
  7. German (Audio Commentary)
  8. Japanese (Audio Commentary)

Extras:
None to preserve the quality of the movie with the highest bitrate.
Maybe there will be a bonus disc for each movie but I am not sure.

Other notes:
Maybe some other fans can make the German and Japanese subtitles for the commentary but I think the best I can offer is this suggestion and offering it up on the Spleen.

Again, my PC isn’t strong enough to convert video and/or make custom DVDs.

And the reason why the languages listed are English, German and Japanese is because my secondary languages are German and Japanese. But I also speak French, Italian, Russian, Korean and Chinese, among other languages.
And that I am adding most, if not all of the English mixes for each movie.

The bitrates for at least the English tracks should be:
DTS 5.1: 1509kbps
Dolby Digital 5.1: 640kbps
Dolby Digital 2.0: 448kbps
Dolby Digital 1.0: 256kbps

I have actually seen some Chinese bootleg DVDs with 640kbps Dolby Digital 5.1 so it is possible in DVD.

Also, the DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks will be identical mixes but the DTS version has a higher bitrate.

And I think the Japanese and German tracks will only be 192kbps.

And I’ve loved every pixel of it.

Even if you can’t rencode video, you should be able to mux together the DVD-5 video with whatever video and subtitles you choose and make a DVD-9. Use PgcDemux and tsmuxer to demux the DVD-5 and MKV. Then use Muxman to mux it all together to a new DVD. You can get standard-def subs from Project Threepio.

Oh, and if you want the isolated score for Star Wars in lossless, PM me.

But the DVD-5 video is below the standards of a retail DVD.

And I also need high quality Dolby Digital conversions of the DTS-HD Master Audio tracks.

And I’ve loved every pixel of it.
