This thread deteriorated quickly. :/

That doesn't change the fact that George Lucas is a psychopathic sadist who has been trolling his fan base for 18 years; and now the situation has worsened because Star Wars is owned by Disney, which means it will never enter the public domain, therefore threatening the fan preservations which are the only way the OOT still exists.

Bully for you.  Could you please stop posting the same thing over and over?

If anyone is thinking about getting the package for all the special features, then you need to check that the site you will be getting it from has all the special features in the package deal. VUDU are missing at least 2 of the new featurettes

Which ones?

It seems like there's 1 new featurette for each film.

And what service has all of them?

Maybe if we lived in an alternate dimension and had the OOT.

They're just the SE being released digitally (I looked at the run times). This means that the SE is here to stay in the digital age. No way iTunes is going to release the original editions...

Yeah, but how much importance should we really treat that with?

The director's cut of Close Encounters is the only one on itunes despite all three versions being on the blu-ray.

Well it seems they are just missing one featurette now. VUDU don't have :

"Discoveries From Inside: Weapons & The First Lightsaber"

I know xbox movies has all of them, along with a bonus trailer for the conversations feature. Not sure about any others

Although the xbox option is streaming only and doesn't let you download the movies. Itunes and google play are supposed to allow you to download and watch offline

If they already own the blu-rays, they might feel there isn't any reason to buy the digital releases.

Or they'll buy it because a large percentage of people that watch movies have no idea how to rip them and will therefore spend the money to have access to those same movies on their mobile device, Roku, and pretty much any device that can watch these videos (which is pretty much anything today).

Anyone yet determine how many of these special features are completely brand new and exclusive for these digital releases?

Otherwise, if not a lot, I cannot see very many people purchasing these digital copies at a whopping $90 for the bundle on Vudu, especially if they may already own the blu rays.

What if Disney made more changes to the OT for the digital release? If George can change ESB and ROTJ without the director's consent, what would stop them?

What if?  How would it change anything?  We know it's not the OOT, so they could put Jar Jar's head on Anakin* at the end of ROTJ for all I care.

*I'm pretty sure I've seen this done via Photoshop, so no need to post it again.

I have read that article in the first post and what's on the Vudu page, and I could see certain interviews were new, but other feautures I thought for sure were already a part of the blu ray set (let alone the deleted scenes). I could be wrong, it's just been a long while since I've visited those extras on the blu rays. $90 still sounds a bit much for the bundle I think :/

Doomsayers have to be repetitively pessimistic. They'd be out of a job, otherwise.

I agree. Lucas is a pure sadist and I'm 100% certain that OOT clause is in that Disney contract. We'll have to spend the rest of our lives stuck with fan preservations until the end of time.

The extremism in your posts are downright hilarious at this point.

I wouldn't be yelling my head off if the OT wasn't such a cultural monolith like the Sistine Chapel, the Mona Lisa, or Mount Rushmore. Nobody in Hollywood realizes that altering these films and letting the originals crumble to dust is the great artistic sacrileges of our time. The Star Wars trilogy is not just some dumb Flash Gordon knockoff like George Lucas thinks, or just another minor IP Disney can exploit for profit. It is our mythology, and those three films must be protected at any cost as they were in those first 20 years of existence.

From the previews I saw on YT (and I love all those negative SE comments I'm seeing there, LOL!) it looks like this is just the 2004 DVD transfers again, and that the 4k scans haven't been touched. Is this right or am I missing something? They certainly aren't advertising it as a new transfer which suggests that the 4k versions will be released later in the year or sometime next year...

I don't think it suggests anything really. I doubt "New 4K transfer" would be that much of a selling point for many people outside of these forums, unless the transfer was used for an OOT release.

Are you kidding? It's always a selling point for any movie! Look how great Robocop 4k looks compared with the older releases.

And besides, a lot of people already own the existing blurays. The digital release should offer an improvement in quality in order to appeal to these customers, especially at the price they're wanting ($20 per movie!)

Star Wars is not an internet provider!

I'm really hoping this becomes an OT.com meme.
