Things i've noticed in the Blu Ray:

TPM: Lights added on back of sith probes, CGI yoda included this time. I couple more added Podrace scenes to the already added scenes.

AOTC: Just a couple expansions on scenes to show more of the envirnment.

ROTS: Nothing noticeable

ANH: When on the cliff looing out to Mos Eisly, a couple more ships are seen taking off. Added one shot with lasers coming from the Falcon in the death star escape scene. Obi-Wan's Krayt Dragon call was a mix of both the Original, SE, and some added effects.

ESB: Tuan Tuans blink a couple times. The line, "You could use a good kiss" is gone. Possibly another Tie fighter/Bomber or SD added in the Empire Reveal scene.

ROTJ: Sebulba like character enters the main room in Jabba's palace while LUke is confronting Oliff. Added a scene where the Falcon flys past the bridge of the SD after the Tie Fighter crashes into it. When the SSD crashes into the Death Star, you can see the Star Destroyer fleet above. Darth Vader does the "No" line twice. Once very suttle, the other one the same as ROTS only shortened.
Are these for real? Most of these haven't been mentioned by anyone else, at least what I've seen. I don't mean the rocks and nooos of course but Han's line, added ships and scenes.
According to the DIF Project, these are not actual changes, just things that were always there that someone just noticed when they were looking for changes.

Kind of like I would have listed a thousand things in 1997 after seeing the movies in widescreen for the first time that I thought they added.

So what everyone think of the ROTJ line at the end where vader saves luke?

Find me one person that likes it, so I can SHUN them.

Go to theforce.net boards. There's tons over there.

Yes. Here's a gushing example.

Friday when it came out I went ahead and bought my first Blu Ray player and the boxset.

I was all set to watch the whole saga over Saturday and Sunday, but after seeing The Phantom Menace, I found myself with the desire to go out and find some live music and dance.

The movie was fantastic in it's high definition glory, with the cooler looking Yoda, so it's not like I was disappointed or anything.

I guess I just feel like spreading it out and savoring each movie on it's own terms.

I'm going to probably do a movie each weekend until I'm through it.

I feel like I've been waiting for this version my whole life, and I don't want it's revelation to be over so quickly.

At this point, no change seems impossible. He changed Luke's line on Dagobah "You're lucky you don't taste very good", so removing/changing "You could use a good kiss" doesn't seem unrealistic.

He made the Ewoks blink, so why not do the same to TaunTauns? *shrugs*

The Tuan Tuans did blink. forgot to add the Ewok part. You only saw it once or twice since they only do a close up of the Tuan Tuan once.

And yea, Han's line, i hope i didn't hear it or it was my Blu ray plater, because that was a funny line to end on.

i'm surprised that Lucas didn't add the clone voices to the Storm Troopers. Which is a good thing seeing as how the Clones had an average life span of 20 years. Give or take.

The animatronic Taun Taun actually blinked in the original film, maybe that is what you're seeing.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Hmm... so we at least know Lucas had the technology to make creatures blink back then. (Not that your average aplogist still wouldn't fall for such a cheap excuse). D;

For me, Vader's silence was much more complex.  You didn't know what was really going on in his head... you knew he was part machine, and you knew that the "good" in him was being denied by some dark forces.  With his silence, you really wondered what complex stuff was going on in there -- if his old neurons were waking up and fighting with his new neurons, or exactly what. The "nooo!" destroys all the complexity that his silence allowed for.

Although in a sense, I suppose the "nooo!" makes him seem more like creepy Anakin from the episodes 2 and 3, the whiny one who always wants his way. Maybe that's why some of the gushers like it.

Now we do.

He was thinking "Nooooooooo!"

Are there seriously people who think this was a good idea?

My Little Boy and I just got through TPM & AOTC, we are about to start ROTS, but the one thing I do like is the lightsaber fights, just love the sound, and the bass, even though some of the battles are corny LOL, but just love these weapons.

Yeah, while the picture has its share of flaws for those two films, the audio is pretty cool. Great range and a lot of punch in those mixes.

I've also watched TPM and AOTC. For all the flaws of those films, I enjoyed them for what they are.

I think TPM looks pretty good, actually. I've only owned it on VHS, so I never got to see the LD presentation or the alledgedly horrendous DVD. The BD is quite a step up from that. I'm just glad they took some measures to ensure a certain level of visual consistency between the prequels, even if that includes DNR. The film just never looked that great in the first place, so I can't see what the fuss is all about.

Also, CG Yoda may be the most welcome change to the saga so far. Let's hope Lucas doesn't read that; the puppet in the OT was a nice piece of work, but his TPM counterpart came off as a senile muppet.

AOTC looks fantastic, but it's hardly any quantum leap given the DVD was crystal clear to begin with. In a sense, it's a little disappointing that there's no real "WOW"-experience to be found here, but the disc delivers. It just goes to show how crisp the picture was in the first place.

Tonight, I'll probably be watching ROTS. Given that this also looked spectacular on DVD, I'm not really expecting any surprises. Other than the fact that I am excited to see this on my 42" screen for - as far as I recall - the first time. And then, of course, it's onwards to the not-so-original trilogy. Even with the latest changes in mind (only Vader's "NOOOOO" bothers me that much), I have a feeling it can only be better than the 2004 DVDs.

I have the same feelings over this set so far.  TPM does look far nicer than it did on DVD for sure and the new Yoda is far easier to believe than that darn puppet.  For $80.00+Free shipping from Amazon, I couldn't pass on the opportunity to at least watch them all and decide from there whether to keep the set or piece it out.

They reside at theforce.net boards. I have witnessed this myself in the last few days. It's hard to imagine what they wouldn't tolerate but I also think most of them are to a degree just saying that to convince themselves, if you gave them the choice I don't doubt almost every person would pick the silent version of that scene.

There's a lot of people like that on the Empire forums too, who are just blathering on how 'awesome' the BluRays are. I'm convinced they're just trying to justify throwing down another £60 or whatever on yet another SW set...

I think you found the same kind of apologists on TheForce.net for the Hayden/Anakin ghost on the 2004 DVDs. There was a lot of rationalizing then of why Lucas decided to do that.

For some reason, I find the "nooooooo" harder to defend. Maybe because I've maxed out on these absurd changes.

A few shots have been re-arranged. (when the pillar is falling on Anakin and Obi and Yoda stops it, as Dooku escapes) I gave the disc back so I don't have it right now to check, but I think you can even hear the cut in the music. (I'll look around for a better description)

LOL, so my neighbor downstairs rented this and and I stopped over to watch.

Im suprised this hasn't gotten more response - i guess its ok to make the PT worse ;)  but we were like WTF!?  its so bad we thought the blu ray player jumped!  and the music is also now thrown off by it!

 basically-

-yoda moves the pillar away from obi-wan

-yoda is just looking

-anakin regains consciousness while obi-wan looks at him

-dookus ship takes off and padme tries to shoot it down

-yoda then grabs his cane and walks away

 before -

-dookus ship takes off and padme tries to shoot it down

-anakin regains consciousness while obi-wan looks at him

-yoda is just looking

-yoda then grabs his cane and walks away

it may have been for just a few seconds and doesn't kill it like the stupid "alert my star destroyer" - but it feels like something got botched and caused the disc to jump and re-adjust!

if this isn't some freak authoring anomaly and lucas personally did this, I never want to hear any more crap about his vaunted editing skills (which were overrated anyway)

i cant even think of why he would want to do this.  this was probably the only scene in the PT that became a pop-culture moment - and now the ending of it sucks.

I havent posted there in years since I was permabanned, but this doesnt suprise me at all.   Lucas can do ANYTHING, and they will defend it.  The funny this is they keep using the same argument I have heard since 1997, "Well, its only a few minutes of changes, get over it!"

The problem is you have minutes of changes in 1997, minutes of changes in 2004, and now minutes of changes in 2011, so it is starting to add up!  By 2030, they will say, "Well its only an hour of changes, but its not all 6 hours of the OT movies!"

Well it's probably not untrue; the prequels and the clone wars series is embedded in a very different demographic than the original trilogy.

What model is your Player, Ziggy? - I'm using a ps3 [the slim one] and generally find blu-rays take a while to initially load and sometimes getting between menus.

I have a Sony player from 2010. It usually takes only a few seconds for me.

Although THX-1138 took so long once it was still loading an hour later. This was the only incidence of such a thing happening.

You actually let it go that long?  If it takes longer than you need to prep a sandwich, turn it off!

What, you expected me to read the instruction booklet? Gimme a break....

;-)

Author

Is that in the instruction book? Forgive me, I don't have a Blu-ray player, but is there a line in the instruction book that states, "In the event the disc takes longer to load than the preparation time of a standard sandwich, please re-insert disc and try again.  If problem persists, please call customer service"?
