YouSendIt for me = download speeds of .5kbps. No big deal, I suppose, I like this flick the way it is

Shatner fights God and Shatner wins. What could be better?

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Is this the re-edit that makes The Final Frontier like an episode of TOS? If so I'd love to see it, and if not, I'd love to see it anyway. However, the link is expired so could you be so kind to post another one?

Oh man, perhaps because it was so big it stalled out? I'm not sure, but yeah it turns it into a original episode. Very well done.
I'll try again tommorow, perhaps tonight, but it takes about 6 hours to upload it..

Here's just a little more info on it: It's from Jack Marshall, the creator of the acclaimed Star Trek: New Voyages fan film series (http://www.newvoyages.com/). Here's what he said about it on a message board (http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/showflat.php?Number=5057140)

I did a re-mixed version (the one Mudd is refering to above)about the same time I put out a version of the Phantom Edit. In the Trek V remix, I cut it down to 68 minutes and cut it like a TV show with act breaks. I formatted it as if it were the pilot from the aborted Phase 2 Trek series. I used stock footage of visual effects where possible to remove some of the subpar effects that found their way into the film. There's also a mixing in of classic Trek music cues, and among other things, cut out references to Sybok being Spocks half brother, and those other odd moments like too many decks, lost crew members, and more.

I hope that clears up any confusion. It is NOT the one where some guy was going to add new special CG effects (details of which can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/phineasbg/trek5se.html).

It was torrented a couple of months ago, but it looks like the tracker is down.

Well that's definitely the version I had heard about and would be interested in getting. Does anyone have a DVD of this they'd be willing to trade?

"The Enhanced Re-Edit" is certainly an ambitious project, but I doubt it will ever come to fruition.

Perhaps. Someone. Should... sendthisssss... Link. To. William. Shatner.

Link's dead, Jim.

Using yousendit for files bigger than 1 MB - or, for that matter using it for anything at all - is illogical.

MAYBE someone should just seed the existing torrent file?

Actually it works pretty damn well with things under 200 mb or so; this is the first time i've upped something over that. Either way though it must have hit at maximum transfer rate I suppose.

Oh well....i'll give it another shot tommorow

For those who were looking for this, there's currently a full seed available on the previous torrent tracker. I'm currently connected to it (I got the torrent from Torrent Reactor) and it's chugging along at a lethargic 2 kb/sec, but that's better than nothing!

As I type, I am currently uploading the files to alt.binaries.multimedia.startrek. Grab it while it's there!

Oh yes, indeedy!

Back in '03, he posted the aforementioned vcd, an mpeg that seems to be the source of it, an SVCD image that he thanked someone for creating, and a dvd image (Nero format .nrg).

The DVD Image is a mere 1.59 GB (1,717,089,308 bytes), but PowerDvd reports a bitrate of a solid 3 Mbps, at every sampling.

63 minutes (not counting a very slow introductory monologe scroll).

Picture seems a little washed out, on my monitor. Sound is excellent.

I can't spare any bandwidth, really, but I should have PowerPost set up by about the time Brimley finishes his vcd post.

I plan to crosspost the DVD to a.b.m.startrek & a.b.superman (the latter is where segaflip is crossposting non-SW - fewer headers).

Might take a while from start to finish, I'm going to be stingy with my bandwidth. And, no, I don't know what "a while" will translate into).
:-)

So... {ahem} ...any interest in his restoration of the unaired version of "Where No Man Has Gone Before"?

First post, hadda edit a coupla goofs. Make that 3. Hope I caught them all. :-)

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

I know it's not THAT different from the aired version, just a few small scene extensions and different musical cues, but being a die-hard Trekker it would be an interesting oddity. And since you mentioned you had the DVD, would you able to make copies for your fellows fans? I much prefer hard copies to downloads, but if you can't I understand.

Thanks for being willing to help us out with a higher quality rip! I really enjoyed the VCD he made, but I'm glad I'll eventually have something better to give to my Trekker family and friends. And you're right- the sound is amaaazing. It's not a perfect fan edit, but it's a great example of just how anyone can basically do something like this! Thanks again!

Unfortunatally, the WNMHGB only came in vcd, and the mpeg for it, as far as I can see. Probably because the multi-generational tape of the shown-to-NBC version was poor quality. (It really sticks out against the dvd-source). If there's a DVD version, I don't seem to have it. I actually thought I did, but at least I'm glad I didn't say I did. :-)

It's fun to hear "Terrible. Having... 'bad blood', like that." followed by "But you may learn to enjoy it, someday." He played the back shot of Kirk's head very slowly, for the extra line, so he wouldn't have to splice in the tape. (Everyone moves in slo-mo).

The extremely long Captain's log, for the entire teaser, is nice.

And there's a bit where Gary grabs at the air, behind Yeoman Smith.
Is he gesturing a "****! Just missed talking to her." Or did he try to get into her thoughts?
(For those who haven't still-framed their way through the dossiers on Spock's viewscreen - Gary is quite telepathic to begin with, at least with the telepathic Denebians).

Then there's an unusual camera angle. Extra shots. Haven't studied it for the musical cues, that sounds interesting. Seems to me that the cuts were probably for running-time's sake. Looks like its all within the first few minutes.

I'm glad they ditched the "Act 1, Act 2..." stuff. It worked for Quinn Martin, but it doesn't feel Trek-like, IMO.

I wonder if Paramount still has the negatives to those bits? In the Compendium, Asherman says: "It was probably this print that Gene Roddenberry later presented to the Smithsonian Institution...". I imagine the security's really tight there. Sigh. :-)

He did something with the Cage, but apparently it was before I got the other stuff.

Er... right... back to the subject. One request is good enough for me. :-) I'll be posting it... Real Soon Now (tm). :-) Probably 2 or 3 days. Same groups.

Hard copies, eh? I... resist that suggestion. :-) You can PM me, tho'. What's your reasons, whatcha got to trade, you want files, or finished? and so on. If I send you (a) disc(s), you can send when you get them, so I can take my sweet time. :-) Or you could PIF someone.
In Thy Image is going up right now, so I imagine you want an answer before it rolls off your server. :-)

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Glad to do it. I couldn't let the need go unanswered. And it might be my first & last chance to help out fans around here. I've leeched so much of what's been coordinated through this site. Kinda satifying to return something. Also, I couldn't let it fade into obsurity.
The needs of the many coincided with... something... :-)

And thanks for thanking me. A usenet poster usually doesn't get that.

Well, it's finally going up (now that everyone else is in bed. :-)

My brain eventually clicked on the fact that it'll take the same 1.x Gig of bandwidth quick or slow. And nothing's desperately close to expiration, yet. So I bumped it up higher. And it still looks like a total of almost 30 freakin' hours! [edited to reduce the babbling]
Oh well. A day and a half ain't too bad. I might take a while to start Where No Man Has Gone Before, tho'.

Bad timing, offering it right after you posted. I kinda felt like I was stealing your thunder. I hope it didn't seem that way.
I've been planning to join up for months. And I wanted to swoop into the thread as soon as I found the sets. But life got in the way.

Several coincidences surrounding this... uh... waitaminute... I'm babbling... that must mean... Egad! It's late... must sleep...

No way man, life is far too short to even consider "hey, I posted that FIRST!" garbage. If people do this for the glory, that's the wrong reason. I do think we should greatly respect those who take time out of their lives for fan edits, conversions, preservations, dvd covers, etc, but as you said, satisfying others and supporting the geekdom common good is far far better and reward enough.

Glad to hear it. Not that I'm paranoid or anything. :-)

In all my babbling I neglected to thank you for posting the VCD version, they're popular with a lot of folks on Usenet. And yer nfo, with the interview, was really, well, informative - I never knew that stuff about him.

And I neglected to follow up on the Sound quality thing. I'm really impressed with the way he could seamlessly blend in TOS music.
And his encoding skills are top notch, some of the best vcd's I've seen. His WNMHGB, fer instance.
Of course I'm blown away by all these editing guys. They keep coming up with these brilliant techniques.

Once these get in your hands, I hope they might someday find their way to that towing rental service thingy I've read about. :-)

And you've got pm, in case you haven't been reading the thread. Thanks for getting this started & stuff.

----

I'm kinda cluttering the thread up, so I'll edit a few things onto this post.

The DVD is up there now. With a corrected nfo. Holler if there's any problems with it.

Anyone think I should post the SVCD version? It's about a gig, only about 700 Megs smaller than the DVD, so there's probably not much point. In any case, the restored original-edit WNMHGB is next. I'll give it a little under a day. Late again...
