I'm guessing there are no caps for 7,8,9?  From what I can see Sky showed them but only 6 caps are available.

Bummer.

I have some great news guys! 7,8, and 9 are, in fact, available on Usenet.:) Again, they are over 1600 days old so you will need a bad ass provider. PM me for the file names. They have no password this time.

I have a usenet subscription so that is good news indeed.

I have not... (**/)

It will be a good thing to add to them the laserdisc PCM soundtracks - or the AC3 whenever available, like for ep. 7 8 9 - don't know if HDTV soundtrack will be better in that case...

Oh, did I mention 7,8 and 9 have a synced dts track.:) The movie is at 25fps so it will need to be slowed and or re-encoded. Some might have commentaries also.

As they were shown theatrically with both DTS and Dolby Digital soundtrack, I think the laserdisc DD tracks will be a very welcome addition!

No problems to slow down DTS from 25 to 23.976 - I could do it, but there are many others with more experience than me that will be happy to do themselves. And commentaries are welcome!

Personally, I'll add the Leonard Nimoy intro to ep. 4, and italian PCM laserdisc soundtracks for ep. 1 2 7 8 - plus italian AC3 from DVD for the others, or, if I will be lucky, try to track down the VHS and capture their Hi-Fi Stereo soundtrack - in the "vintage" restoration spirit... (^^,)

Plus, *maybe*, the extended edition of ep. 6... I wrote *maybe*...

As it turns out guys my cap of Star Trek 2 is the longer version of the movie and not the theatrical.

Is there an HD cap of the theatrical without logos out there at all?

It does exist. An mpeg-2 was posted on usenet about 7 years ago. Unfortunately way out of retention.

A pity that no full-size caps seem to exist of the theatrical cut. All I could find was a 4.3GB 720p MKV downconversion (there are torrents of HDTV-sourced MKVs for all 10 floating around on the public trackers).

I have long maintained that HDTV rips need to be preserved. With all the color regrading and DNR madness going on, they are often a valuable resource.

I snagged First Contact.  It has 2 DVD audio commentary tracks.  I believe the DTS is from the 2 Disc collectors edition DVD.  I am working on synching the single disc DVD ac3 audio to it using Tsmuxer to see if I can do it.

Okay .... I need help.

How do I turn this h.264 @ 25fps to NTSC without quality loss so I can get the DVD audio to synch up?  I am not a fan of tweaking the audio to fit.

I am also a complete noob when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks in advance.

I've got 2 left, 5 n 6.  I've been watching brief clips of each download and I have to say they do look nice.  I believe there may have been a bigger source file as the DTS ones use audio from the 2 DVD sets along with the commentaries.

I have NO clue on how to slow them down and replace audio to sync.  DoomBot and I have the cinema DTS for Generations through Nemesis but I haven't been able to find Nemesis as of yet.

Use uncropMKV.  (By the maker of multiAVCHD)  It's worked for me.  There's VERY little quality loss, in fact you can choose the bitrate for the file.

I have re-encoded these kind of files using Ripbot264 and have been very happy with the results.

I'm just thinking out loud here about STII ..... technically, the theatrical version could be re-created using footage from the 2 disc DVD set.  Of course, that footage would have to be touched up a bit maybe to match the HDTV footage.

I know we have some folks here that could probably do it well and since we have the PCM for Wrath of Khan it would make for a nice all-around experience.

It's a thought anyways.

I like Ripbot too but in Jetrell Fo's case he would have to re-encode the audio in Ripbot per what the maker of Ripbot has stated in a forum.  This is not the case with Uncropmkv.  (Apparently there are sync issues if you don't re-encode the audio in Ripbot)

I believe he's saying that it will slow down the video so I can add the DVD audio to it without sync issues .... or am I reading you wrong stretch?

Edit:

Apparently Uncropmkv doesn't care about the audio you have with the video.  So, I'm guessing I can slow down the film, then demux the video from the audio, and remux the new audio to the video.

Oh, sorry I didn't make that very clear.  Uncropmkv will slow down the video just fine.  The audio that came with it will sync perfectly and I assume your DVD audio will also.
I've used both Ripbot and Uncropmkv many times and in this case I would definitely use uncropmkv.  One pass is enough and it will be done faster than ripbot.  Setting it up is much simpler than ripbot also.

Thanks Stretch for explaining. I have downloaded Uncropmkv and will be playing around with it tomorrow. I have a 720p of "Swiss Family Robinson" at 25fps that I would like to slow to 23.976fps. I will report back my impressions.

I used Uncropmkv to slow down "One Hour Photo" from 25fps to 23.976fps and it worked like a charm.  The main reason I use uncropmkv though is to make mkvs 100% AVCHD/BD compliant.  (Especially if it isn't exactly 1280x720 or 1920x1080)  Great little piece of software IMO.

Wouldn't it be more prudent to just use the footage from the BD but color-corrected to match? I'd definitely be interested if these were re-up'ed to a torrent eventually... myspleen maybe? :)
