The NTSC DVD is now uploaded at both MySpleen and Demonoid. I'll post an XviD in a few days.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

having stumbled upon this thread a month ago i think its time for my first post.

firstly hello to all !!! around a month ago i caved in and watched southland on sky movies, i had been keeping away from watching it as i wanted to import the blu ray ( still not available here in the UK ) and watch the film in the best available form. after watching it on sky, i imported the blu ray and watched it around a week later.......thats when it hit me, these cuts were totally different!! searching the net i stumbled across this forum and was very happy to see that someone managed to capture the HD feed. it was on sky yesterday and despite advertising the run time 138m, it was indeed the cannes cut - General Teena MacArthur scenes, hand chopping at the beginning, slightly more jon lovitz etc.

with the best my equipment could manage i recorded the film to my sky + box ( your equivalent of tivo ) and recorded it to a DVD-R. obviously this will not be as good as dark jedi's contribution, but it is a hell of an upgrade over the MP4 version. so if anything is to go wrong ( and i pray it doesn't ) with dark jedi's project then i have this copy to distribute......

First welcome to the board, and second,it is always nice to have a backup plan LOL,so definitely hang on to your version.

cheers fella !!

wow !! how this thread has grown since my last visit..........you guys are an industrious bunch!! guessing i can delete my SD copy from my HDD now :) really looking forward to having this finally in HD .....thanks a bunch.

I had no idea you were still doing the PAL version! I wasn't going to push that one because PAL folks can generally play NTSC, yeah? And I did get the bonus. I'm really looking forward to checking that out, too. Many thanks, my friend.

not to sound to cheeky after all the work thats been done but would personally prefer a PAL version if you can - many thanks

I really don't feel like having the upload on that eat up hard drive space and bandwidth after so many people have downloaded the NTSC version, but I'd be happy to do a mail thing with you for it, if you wanna email me.

In other news, I've got an XviD version on my HD that I'll be upping after the Demonoid leechers complete their downloads.

are there no chances of seeing this on anything else but Spleen and Demonoid? also I'll need the PAL version to watch it on anything but my PC. good work on making the DVDs guys :)

Plenty of people downloaded it that can put it elsewhere. Having uploaded two DVDs and a big XviD rip, I'm done. If you're in a PAL country, I do believe that you shouldn't have any trouble playing an NTSC DVD.

I really do not understand this "need" for the PAL version when you guys can play the NTSC just fine, maybe someone can explain why you would prefer this version?

but what sux for us is we can't play the PAL version just fine,we have to convert or watch it on a shitty DVD player that does an even shittier conversion.

NTSC DVDs tend to be very gittery when played back on PAL DVD players (at least on mine they are) I assume this is a combination of 3:2 pulldown and format conversion (that would be the same kind of 'shitty conversion' you're talking about, just because they play NTSC doesn't mean they play it well).

Maybe I have only tried DVDs that haven't been properly flagged for progressive playback, or maybe it's because my DVD player / TV don't handle NTSC signals properly. But 3:2 pulldown is as annoying for me as PAL speed up is for you. In the end it just comes down to everyone liking what they're used to.

I intend to download you NTSC DVD of the cannes cut (which, knowing the quality of your work, I'm sure will be properly flagged) and I'll let you know if it plays back properly on my system.

Hi everyone, hope you're well, new member, here especially for this release.

Is there any way I can get hold of a copy of this as an *.avi file? My DVD burner is screwed you see so I tend to transfer films to my ipod and then plug that into the TV. I would really appreciate any information you can give me as I am absolutely dying to see this edit. Thanks for all your hard work either way.

dark_jedi, check your inbox, I've written you back. Thanks.

Thanks again everyone. I'm over the moon that this release has seen the light of day and I greatly appreciate all the effort that has gone into this preservation.

Got my copy and, whilst I can see why this wasn't particularly well received by the Cannes audience, it was a fascinating viewing experience in terms of seeing the evolution of the film. I also got to hear Kelly's commentary track for the film for the first time on the same day as watching this so that was cool. I've got to say that the quality of this release was top-notch so kudos to those involved in that side of things.

In terms of changes the one that struck me as the most obvious was the narration. It sounds totally different in this version: kind of weak and more than a little hammy (the last line in particular is delivered in a strange, 'soap-opera-acting' manner). Just out of interest does anyone know if this is identical to the Cannes version in every way? I ask because I remember reading that the version shown there had no effects or minimal effects whereas this version looked fairly finished to me. Is this a remake following the intial edit in terms of running time, scenes, etcetera but with completed effect shots in place of the alleged Cannes-screening temp effect shots?

Anyway, thanks to everyone involved with this project, from instigation to realisation, and a special thank you to dark_jedi for helping me out.

Some of the blimp effects at the end are clearly temp effects, especially one of the explosion effects.  As far as I know, this is exactly what was shown at Cannes - it wasn't all temp effects, it's just that there were a few that were unfinished.  If I'm not mistaken.

The effects are obviously different to the finished version but I wouldn't say that they are 'clearly temp effects'. They're actually pretty passable given the budget that this film had. I've seen far worse effects in films which much bigger budgets.

I would really love to get my hand on a copy.

Pal or ntsc.

Thanks for your help and hard work.

I'm not a registered user on Demonoid... So is there any other way I could get it?
I would prefer an .avi file but any other kind of file would be good. As long as I get it!
...Please!
