Just a heads up for all you cappers …

http://comicbook.com/2014/10/21/germany-doing-a-24-hour-star-wars-channel/

This holiday season, Sky Hits in Germany will become Sky Star Wars, and will air nothing but Star Wars content 24 hours a day from December 1 through 14, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sadly, in spite of its holiday timing, there’s little chance we’ll get an official airing of the Star Wars Holiday Special.

Sky Star Wars will screen the first Star Wars feature films on a loop, starting with 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace through to the 1983 classic Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi.

In between the films, the channel will air behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of all six movies created over the years (think of how many there have been, considering how many home video releases the films have had), as well as two _Star Wars _documentaries from Emmy winner Kevin BurnsEmpire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy and Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed.

The article says the deal was made through negotiations with Disney, who control the rights to most of the films. Sky and Fox, who hold theatrical and home video rights to the earliest Star Wars films, have an existing relationship. It seems worth noting that we’ve heard that the original, unaltered Star Wars is coming to Blu-ray soon, which would require similar talks between Fox and Disney.

The only thing worth salvaging from this is hopefully an HD version of "Empire of Dreams".

Between the two trilogies, two Ewok films, and three previous animated series, (Ewoks, Droids and TCW) there's enough content for an all SW channel to work.

And the Clone Wars film, or do we just not talk about that here? :p

It was my hope that there might be something in there folks could use for a preservation.  It looks like there might be some.  That is good news.

It merely slipped my mind. ;)

Here's an important question: Are there any HDMI-capable cappers located in Germany who plan to take this on?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

More like Dreambox-capable capper ;) Yeah, my colleague will probably be able to cap this stuff for me.

But what exactly do you expect? The movies themselves will most likely just be the Blu-ray versions anyway.

A 24/7 Star Wars channel for the Holidays? Now that is just incredible!

I'd love to see 1080p versions of all the modern documentaries.

I just hope they will show the HD version of the theatrical version of TPM, which was shown on Austrian TV in 2012. It's possible.

1080p Empire of Dreams, perhaps?

Would whatever they do show be dubbed, or have burned in subtitles?

Unlikely to be burned in these days, but selectable subtitles on a dubbed version would be the most likely broadcast.

Although, if I remember correctly, the German version oft EOD is shorter than the original. But it has German voice-over, no subtitles.

It was shorter on U.S. cable tv as well, concentrating more on Star Wars than the sequels.

A little heads up, since the channel is now live:

SW is the 2004 version, while TESB and ROTJ are the Blu-ray versions. All in 1080p.

Are there any quick ways to identify which versions of the PT movies are shown?

I'll try to get my colleague to record "Empire of Dreams" on the weekend. For starters it's the 151 minute version (at PAL speed), not the shortened version. Here's hoping it's in HD without burnt in subs.

I'm pretty sure he's already used the 2004 versions. Also I doubt he will update SW again, unless it's via more 35mm material.

Edit: I've checked against that guide, and the PT movies are the Blu-ray versions as well. No surprises here.

Yeah, it has.

Also: "Empire of Dreams" is just an upscale with fixed German subtitles, so the DVD version is clearly better.

Did you say you have this on your DVR?  This would be incredible if you could capture this.  I'm sure that myself and others would be willing to offer advise on how to do it.

Are you sure it was the Theatrical version and not the DVD version?

Absolutely. Unfortunately I only taped it from the night before Boonta Eve until the end and it's very hard to get anything but an audio signal out of those UPC DVRs without investing into an HD-Fury.
