Restoring the complete vampa subplot would be probably a problem, even for Ady, right ?
But I'm still very excited

One other thing I just thought of.
If there's any way to edit out the borderline incestuous kiss between Luke and Leia, that might be wise.
Personally, it doesn't bother me. After all, if I had a sister as hot as Carrie Fisher... Well, it's just best to avoid such things as they are frowned upon by most societies.

You have to look at it from their perspective. A that time, nobody knew they were brother and sister, so what is the problem? I have no idea why is this such an issue.

Oh man, oh man, oh man. Ady, you're on your way to doing it again! Great work on Palpatine. Did you cut and paste his ROTJ eyes? It's pretty seamless. I would echo the sentiments about a larger-scale snow battle. One thing I would remove is the extra Cloud City fly-bys. They just hollered "Look at what ILM did, just because they could!" But that's just me. This is your edit, man. I'll be sure to snatch it up.

In my opinion, I don't think you should remove the new Boba Fett voice, it works very well. As well is keep continuity with the prequels, something I know you want. I don't think it should be removed just to remove it. It could be argued that if you were going to keep the old voice for Boba you should keep the old voice of The emperor. In any case it's a keeps of revisionism that I don't think hurts the film in any way.

Unless you can figure out a way to digitally combine their voices, so it's half and half.

In my opinion, Boba's old voice is much more badass and should be restored. If you want it to make sense, storywise, just imagine that he has a voice-altering device under the helmet.

Remember how different Leia sounded when she was disguised as a bounty hunter in Return of the Jedi? That's how much a device can alter one's voice.

I like that you will try to make the Emperor hologram look closer to how he looked in ROTJ, but I still maintain that the best and simplest thing to do is simply to darken the hologram so that most of his face is not visable.

Think of the scene in ROTJ when Palpatine lands in the hangar bay. As he and Vader walks and talks, only his mouth, chin and the lower part of his left cheek is visible. That's how I think it should be in ESB as well.

I also think you should try and increase the distance between the Slave I and the Falcon while Boba Fett is tailing them; he is flying way too close.

I'm really exaciting about this project, ady. If it's even half as good as the ANH edit, it's gonna be great.

are you thinking of making the inside of the at-at walkers red since the view of the cockpit from the outside is red? I can see it two way, all red( like the all blue hyperspace you did in ANH) or just a red screen in front of everyone.

After only two pages, a couple of suggestions have already been posted twice. Those, and a whole lot more has already been posted and discussed in the "ESB and ROTJ Wishlist" thread. I am sure AdyWan reads it.
Is there really any point to reiterating the same thing over and over again in multiple threads?
Author

Well, the wishlist thread has kinda served its purpose by now, and I don't se any problem with a little repedition from that thread to this one. But I am gonna try and not repost things in the future, since your right that it's not good for the discussion.

I just wanted to throw in my opinion. I think ANH Revisited was exciting, I enjoyed most of it. I think the key is to be subtle, the subtle changes are what made the biggest impact. I did like the big extravagant changes you made to ANH but the ones that really made all the difference were the subtle alterations to the movie. Sprucing up the light sabers, correction the color. I think it holds turn to ESB more so than the other movies. If I recall correctly you did say you thought ESB was the best "put together" movie. And the one thing I think never did and never will need changing is John Williams score, its is amazing in ESB, I dont think anything needs to be touched with that. I know your main intention is to tie the PT and OT together but I really feel it wouldnt take much to bring the OT "Up to speed." I understand it is totally your project and you have the final say I just wanted to throw in my .02 cents. If I could make 2 requests though, make Vaders Saber RED, not a weird hue of red pink and I realize it wouldnt make it into the final cut but I beg you you reinstate the original Emperor hologram and dialogue possibly just as a alternate viewing selection. Theres just something about it that always felt right compared to the new version.

Gotta agree on the music situation for TESB. Once Vader's shuttle is excised from the end, the music will be back to perfect for me. Even the looping of the music as we watch Boba do a fly by is okay by me. This movie one could truly watch as a silent film with music only and understand every nuance of emotion happening. A masterpiece of scoring, indeed. The prequels, however, yeesh!

I like the tweaks to the eyes of the Emperor hologram. Give me some consistent, bright lightsabers and clear up some of the optical compositing and I'm set!

(edit: yes, compositing, not composting, that's something different! )

O.T. or No T., baby!

One thing i will say is that i will NOT be adding any music from the PT or adding any other music into scenes that don't already have it in this edit. ANH was a huge project and i accomplished exactly what i was attempting to do with that, by tying the PT & OT closer together visually. I do feel that ESB is the nest of the whole saga but the SE really screwed a few things up. I don't like most of the SE changes apart from most of the Cloud City ones. Vaders line will be back to the "bring my shuttle". This always sounded perfect to me as he sounded pissed. The new line just doesn't sound right and the shuttle additions ruins the pace of the escape, so they are going. So ESB will be more subtle in its changes than ANH was but when i get to ROTJ then that film will be more like ANH Revisited in its approach.

I do read the other thread but its good that things are repeated in this one because it is a lot easier for me to keep track of all the suggestions instead of having to look in multiple threads.

Simply darkening the Emperor doesn't work, i'm afraid. the problem lies with the difference in the makeup & his face shape now that Ian is older. I feel that mixing ROTJ facial features with the 2004 DVD version is the only way to go.

Just a suggestion:

Don't make Yoda radiactive green. The 2004 DVDs looked awful because Yoda is a bright green, like he is in the CGI prequels. Yoda is not bright green. His skin is comparatively muted, and IMO it looks far more natural. The bright coloring introduces saturation and noise problems, firstly, but more importantly it looks really fake and out of place.

With that out of the way: that was the best trailer I've ever seen for ESB. Good luck with this Adywan! Other than Yoda's skin, it sounds like this could be an even bettter improvement than ANH!

Also: my big problem with the new ESB Emperor was he was all bright and lit-up. The original was fantastic because it was all contrasty and in shadows. I saw a fan-made re-coloring of the 2004 Emperor that simply increased the contrast and darkened the image, and while the makeup still was a bit of a problem, the mysterious nature that made the 1980 Emperor so great was back, and it obscured the makeup so you didn't notice the continuity issues. To me, the biggest problem with the new Emperor is not that it doesn't match, its that he's not scary, he's too brightly lit. Your version looked like it was on the right track though, and the idea of keeping the lip-sync from the new version and mapping it onto ROTJ-era Emperor is a good one.

Huh, I thought Yoda looked perfect in Adywan's trailer......go figure.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Hey there, I just noticed tihs thread! I agree with bkev about the Yoda recolouring. That picture makes Yoda look like he was in the prequel trilogy (only better ). Maybe you should add some A-Wings and B-Wings to the final scenes with the rebel fleet. Maybe you should make Palpatine look a bit more like his 1980 counterpart (e.g. his face is more of a shadow; this way he looks more mysterious). Also, more cloud cars in cloud city would overall make it look alot better. I'm looking forward to this project. Good luck!

I'm glad you won't be changing TOO many things in Empire, Ady. It's almost a perfect film and there were only a few minor things the Special Editions screwed up so it definitely doesn't need to be reworked as thoroughly as ANH or even ROTJ for that matter.

I also thought Yoda looked perfect in Ady's trailer...and I am a huge Yoda fan even having collected everything yoda throughout the years including life-size ones...

in hindsight it's a bit creepy, but she only kissed him to piss Han off and make him jealous so it works perfectly well in the context of the scene and I think removing it would also take away from Han & Leia's eventual romance as it builds in the rest of the movie, plus I love the 'Laugh it up Fuzzball' line.

I've never been a big fan of the Fett , but I think it actually detracts from Boba's character to give him the voice of Jango fett, Boba may be a clone of Jango but he wasn't a typical assembly line clone and was given his own free will. He was orphaned at such a young age and had to make his own way in the galaxy and it certainly doesn't take long for a displaced child to lose an accent and adapt to his surroundings. I think retaining the original voice and delivery gives him back some the mystery he lost when episode 2 showed him as a young surly kiwi lad, maybe it's cos i'm an Aussie but the Kiwi accent always sounds a bit jarring and goofy and not very threatening at all.

unless Ady can come up with an interesting overlay of both actors voices and put it through a few vocal effects and create something unique for Boba ?

I like what you're doing with the Emperor hologram, it really looks more like the ROTJ emperor as we know him. Am I alone in thinking that the Emperor's appearance in Empire should retain some of the mystery it had in context of the original trilogy ? I wish they hadn't gone so drastic with his transformation in the prequals, and we could have seen how the dark side had consumed him and ravaged his appearance in the twenty odd years between ROTS and his final reveal in ROTJ. It's a pity that George didn't give his audience enough credit to bridge the gap and make the connection, even with the dialogue he felt the need to make the 'son of Skywalker' as obvious as he possibly could. I hope Adywan is cutting Mcdiarmind's Empire lines back to how they were in the original theatrical cut?

somebody mentioned putting 'Duel of the fates' into the Luke/Vader light saber battle at the end, but to be honest I think the light saber battle in Empire is the most gripping and closest to perfect battle that we see in the entire saga, it's a clear cut battle of the minds and a game of cat and mouse rather than the over the top aerobatics of the prequal trilogy, apart from some tweaking of the light sabers and a few effects shots, I think it would be best left pretty much exactly as it appeared in the original.

A long time ago (heh) I took a few rough notes on 'cleaning up' ESB myself. Little did I know I just didn't have ths killz to pull it off. Anyway, this is just a few bits and pieces I had... (apologies if any of this doubles up on what others have suggested. Some of it is pretty obvious stuff)

0:03:58 - Erase boom mike reflection in Luke’s goggles.
0:04:04 - Paint out crew-person’s hair at left side of screen.
0:04:05 - Extend Wampa’s arm to cover exposed end.
0:07:23 - Erase Anthony Daniels’ skin at 3POs neck.
0:09:55 - Move saber deactivation sound to 4 seconds later, or digitally retract saber earlier.
0:33:02 - Erase stick pushing over AT-AT.
0:33:29 - Fix matte work on shield generator.
0:35:35 - Fix jump cut when snowtrooper is hit by blaster fire.
0:36:23 - Stabilise R2's text on Luke's readout. (When flying from Hoth)
0:39:49 - Replace shadows of Falcon and TIEs on asteroid to be accurate to the shape of the ships.
0:40:48 - Replace audio with “You’re lucky you don’t taste very good.”
0:45:54 - Remove mouth movement on Han. (He mouths Leia’s lines along with her.)
0:52:04 - Erase the 'greeblies' falling off of 3PO when he interrupts Han and Leia.
0:52:16 - When an asteroid hits the command tower on a Star Destroyer, the tower just magically dissolves belong the explosion element. Would be nice to add a more realistically ruined tower.
1:08:29 - Erase wire lifting the rock.
1:11:24 - When Luke walks past Yoda, the ground flexes, giving away that it is just wood in that spot. (Hi Frank! How y'doing down there?)
1:13:36 - Remove Neida's blink (after being choked) when Vader's cape swipes past his face.
1:43:27 - Add windshield to Slave 1. (From memory, it looks like it's missing due to bluescreen work.)
1:45:14 - When Luke shuts off his saber, you can see the tip of the 'extended' prop being taken away when they swap it for a retracted one.
1:45:18 - Erase Luke’s head popping up at the last moment.
1:46:57 - Erase squib on stormtrooper’s chest.
1:54:49 - This shot of Leia is flipped, and Lando is still in the shot, despite being elsewhere at that moment.
2:00:41 - Fix colouring on Luke's fake arm so that the real skin and the 'robot arm' device match.

I know it's jumping the gun, but are the plans for ROTJ?

I doubt there's much you go do to fix it, but I found the SE's Max Reebo Band to be some of the crappiest CG characters I've ever seen.
I'd rather see a bunch of foam muppets then something that looks like it was lifted from a 10 year old video game.

Yeah that's right, that obvious squib on the Stormtoopers chest as Leia fires a gun at him in cloud city, I think it's when she got off the elevator, or maybe when she was about to enter it.

I'm disagreeing with some people here, but I'd like to see Yoda (as well as the other aliens) given the Cantina treatment — I have faith in Adywan's ability to make it work.
