Info: Special Edition - the 'Making Of' Specials

Yes, I know, pretty OT right here, but this is where all the DVD discussion happens. I’ll have a DVD pretty soon of three “making of” specials for the SE from 1997. One is an hour long and from Fox special, “The Magic & The Mystery” I believe it is called. Another is the half-hour Sci Fi channel one and the last is a half-hour MTV look. Would anyone be interested in having this?

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I taped these myself in SP mode in 1997 to VHS. I sent the tape to a guy I know with broadcast-quality equipment (that usually runs about $7000 when bought new) that he uses for restoring tapes to their best possible picture quality, given the source. Apparently, his machine can even pull an image from a tape that wouldn't even play back in comsumer decks.

i think that the 1997 SE vhs have what you are talking about on them

Some of the same content, as far as interviews, is used in the stuff on the 1997 VHS set, yes, but each special has something unique to it. Otherwise, I wouldn't still have them on tape.

This sounds great Rev...

MoBiUs just "took the words right out of my mouth"...or I guess that I should write "off of my fingertips". Are these the 'making-of' videos that followed the SE VHS trilogy? It's been over 5 years since I had a VCR player and I'd love to see those documentaries again...even though they deal with the accursed special editions.

In any case I'd definitely be very interested in seeing it. You're definitely a valuable member of these boards Rev. Hopefully you'll even be able to distribute it on the newsgroups

Guess that answers it...sounds very interesting, bring it on!

(Vapryk von Osor)
(aka Darth Osor)

heh, Vapryk was the name that I used back in the "wizards and warriors" (pre-D&D) days...I chose Osor because it's Latin for "one who hates" and it fits since my Star Wars persona is an evil Jedi.
i am such a geek

Wipe them out...all of them.

My 1997 SE tapes where eaten by my crappy VHS player, but my bro picked up a near new 1997 boxset 4 weeks ago, for $10AU.... which was a stupid thing as well ive got no VHS player!!!... stupid 16 year old . But i did plan to buy another one and dump the interviews ect... but no need to now you have done that

Now that you mention it, since I'm sure the ones on the 1997 VHS set have something unique about them as well, I should just tape my set and encode it. If I can do that myself, I'll tack those on as supplements, but as it stands now, it's just the TV specials. But if my memory serves me correctly, I remember a lot of redundancy between what I had and what was on the official set later.

I really appreciate that. I always feel kinda awkward putting myself into a new community/message board. All you guys here have made me feel right at home and I'm just glad I'm able to contribute something to the wonderful projects taking place here.

I'm interested. I think Rik already has the official '97 SE making of off the laserdisks if I'm not mistaken. Just to get the best picture quality you may want to get them from him if you plan to add them to your dvd at some point.

You are right at home...as we all are. I meant what I said, and I'm sure many others feel the same as I do. Everyone's contributions are always appreciated, its what makes the scene such a dynamic place to be.

As far as adding the SE documentaries to the set that you are conceptualizing...if they fit in, why not? Redundancy means nothing, I have 4 OT's and counting...others have many more. If it's Star Wars, let's see it. Think about what a special DVD you're creating. I'd really be interested to compare and contrast the broadcast interviews and features with the stuff from the SE VHS set myself. Here's to hoping...

Addendum: Looks like Rebel11_38 has the same train of thought...but I didn't know that RiK had the SE doc's on DVD. Good dice.

Wipe them out...all of them.

"Apparently, his machine can even pull an image from a tape that wouldn't even play back in comsumer decks."

Didn't you watch "The Ring"?

Actually, these tapes would be really cool to see, in a kind of "recreation of the crime" kind of way. Changes notwithstanding, the work that went into these changes and the restoration was tremendous.

JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

Count me as interested. I have the SE dual layered boots and would love to add the TV specials as supplementary material.

Reverend,

Same here. I have a crapload of stuff recorded on my hifi stereo VHS including that MTV special which is an absolute hoot. One of the best specials I've ever seen with a very relaxed cast.

We should compare copies once you get yours.
