Currently reading The Dead Zone, by Stephen King; Dune by Frank Herbert (finally slugged my way to around page 150), Stardust by Neil Gaiman (fantastic as always); One Hell of a Gamble: Kruschev, Kennedy, and the Cuban Missle Crisis (excellent!); and am re-reading A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin (best fantasy series I've ever read. Period). Next I want to pick up The Sword and the Shield, which is a history of the KGB.

I have better than average memory and reading/retention skills. It's never been formally tested but someone close to me has a Bachelor's in Experimental Psych and is quite well versed in learning, etc who has told me as much as well as a former Behavioral Psych teacher who said my memory was "remarkable".

As one of my favorite fictional characters, Adrian Monk, says: It's a blessing...and a curse. I tend to remember a lot of minutia that I should probably let go of. For instance I can tell you a lot of useless facts about when a lot of tv shows were produced, which episodes were made when, etc. Of course it hasn't made me rich yet!

I have the same problem with movies. I know WAAY too much useless trivia about movies. Then again, since I'm hoping to get into the film industry, I guess it's good to know the field.

Yeah, but I usually remember it within seconds of seeing/hearing it if I'm paying enough attention...

Will do! Maybe if I get elevated to a high position someday, I can cast Gaffer in a movie as well.

lol, I am the king of reading too many books too fast. Just ask shim. I usually have like 3 books on the go. One for home, one for school and one for the bus. It usually takes me about half a day to finish a novel. I'm not kidding. I do slightly over 100 pages an hour. I finished hobbit overnight. I finished LOTR in a day.

All I can think is wow, that is way fast. I could never read anything that fast.

I'm reading "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepherd. I like savoring what I'm reading, so I take it much slower. For a while I couldn't read anything because school reading burned me off of all books for a long time. I used to LOVE reading. I want to feel that way again.

I would love to read that book. It's the basis for A Christmas Story, the movie, correct? That guy had a knack for hitting things on the head.

Yeah, it is that book. It took me a while to find in a real bookstore too. Instead of doing the easy thing and buying it online I kept looking in the stores. Eventually I found it after around a six month search.

I'm sort of kind of reading AC Crispin's Star Wars novel 'Rebel Dawn' about Han Solo in the days before ANH, but it isn't as interesting as the first two books in the series for some reason.

Bought my copy of Haunted, by Chuck Palahniuk (not sure its spelled right), it was SUPPOSED to arrive today, it's not here. Oh well but that is going to be my next book. After Kafka, I wanna read everything by Chuck now.

Anyone reading anything new? I'm on a Stephen King kick right now. Just finished Skeleton Crew and am about 60 pages into 'Salem's Lot. Very, VERY good stufff. Still eagerly awaiting the next installment of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, which I highly recommend to low-magic fantasy fans.

Last three books read:
"Apathy and Other Small Victories" by Paul Neilan (Amazon)
Sick yet funny book about a morally deliquent slacker who gets involved in a murder investigation. Laugh out loud moments but generally a creapy book. It's great! There's swearing in sign language in the book, yeah it's that good, shit head.

"The Diamond Age: Or, a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer" by Neal Stephenson (Amazon)
This was my first Stephenson book and i'm eagerly awaiting getting into some others. This tale investigates a future world where an engineer develops an interactive book to help guide his daughter. While attempting to make a second copy, the book finds it's way into the hands of girl who's under the tutalage of a disadvantaged family. The story then follows the growth of these books and girls and their way into adulthood. Fascinating look at not only development of an individuals but some of the social political ramifications of a technological world.

"The Fourth Bear" by Jasper Fforde (Amazon)
The setting is a world where book characters occupy the same breathing space as the rest of us. The UK police force has a special division (Spec-Ops 27) which investigates Nursery Crime. Unfortuantely for Detective Jack Spratt, the mass murder, Gingerbreadman (delightful SW reference in his murdering technique for those who read this one) has escaped from prison, a mysterious rash of explosions, and a finicky reporter named Goldilocks has gone missing. Lots of fun, this is the second in the series and an off shoot of the Thursday Next series, so if you like this one, there's many others. (Aside: the author was one of the photographers on many of the Bond films)
