Something seems off about the text of the crawl… too much space. And it would flow smoother if the pan went up to the shot of the shuttle flying by the ring instead of inserting a new shot.

Very intriguing DigMod - and some cool artwork too 😃

Personally, am not sure on the ‘more ethical Cassian retreat’ (I think the original scene gives more depth to his character for later in his speech to Jyn on Yavin IV for his and others’ decision to fight, as well as adding a bit of ‘grey’ to the Rebellion)… and the removal of the Chirrut’s ‘Are you kidding? I’m blind!’ line - which I kind of liked. Everyone’s a critic, eh? 😃

Having said that I’m very much looking forward to seeing it - and very nice work on the skin regrades for Leia & Tarkin too.

btw - could you point me in the direction of your Ep1 and Ep 2 Edits please mate? Would like to see them and how they roll into this Ep3 Edit too.

Oops, sorry for the confusion. I’ve removed the episode # for the crawl in the final version. I’d debated it for a while, but some I’d the crew here gave me the final push to drop it out. These are drafts of a project so the final versions are a little different.

The pan down to the rings was originally what I wanted to do, but the scene moves laterally so it would cause an issue with the pan down movement.

The Cassian edit is more of a personal one. I agree that it is an important shot, no pun intended, but it just always left me feeling unsettled. I know it’s supposed to do that, for some of the reasons you mention.

The nice thing about this edit is that it’s much easier to make different versions when compared to my HttF edit. If one particular edit isn’t to the liking of many, I can easily produce an alternative.

Thanks for the feedback and interest 😃

Perhaps it’s just me, but your crawl wording is great with one exception. I would suggest “Imperial” be added before Director Krennic.

Some people call them Force Ghosts. I call them Midichlorian Swarms.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this. It sounds great, and with a few exceptions your edits are the edits I would make to the film.

Just watched it and I have to agree with you. Thanks!

I likes lot of what you have done. Looks good.

I still think from a story telling standpoint that the Krennic/Erso scene in the beginning is better suited as A dream for Jyn as she is on board with Cassian. Start the film with the Death Star cone scene. It removes all time jumps that way. Just cut up the scene into flashes and recolor it like Rey’s force vision or Anakin’s vision.

Thanks for the thought Hardcore Legend. The only issue with that idea that I can think of is that she already has a dream sequence when she is traveling to Jedha. The opening events are an implied dream sequence in this edit. As the hatch opens up to where Jyn is hiding (as a child) there is a hard cut to her waking in the prison as an adult, as if from a dream. We don’t see that it was Saw until later in her Jedha arrival dream sequence.

Right, I would remove the Coruscant dream sequence. It is only important because he calls her ‘Stardust’ but that information can be added to the new dream as a voiceover. As the final words she hears before she wakes up.

Again, this is your vision. Don’t let me hijack it. I just like removing the time jumps and planet hopping and getting right to it.

I’m assuming the trooper doesn’t know he’s an informant. All the troopers know is that there were two suspicious characters that opened fire on other troopers. Seems like an Empire’s definition of shoot on sight. Cassian was out of sight so he wasn’t shot and he then escaped. I thought about adding blaster flares as he ran away, but thought the sound implied that they were shooting at him.

As everyone is saying, this is your baby so you do things YOUR way!

In my ideal version of this edit though:

I’d keep the informant scene as is, keep Chirrut’s human shield antics and all his lines, I would leave Vader’s eyes as they are, I wouldn’t add the force theme anywhere, I’d keep Vader’s gestures as they are, and I’d also fade to white a bit faster when Jyn and Cassian meet their noble end.

“This is not going to go the way you think.”

I’m onboard with the ethical retreat. The informant seems nervous, but he and Cassian appear to be friends with the more casual way they speak to each other. He’s an honorable person and I think he should be portrayed that way all the way through.

I like the way that you handle the jail scene, but instead of asking if he’s the pilot, I’d keep the scene the same as the original and just jump to having Cassian ask “Galen Erso. You know that name?” That way, Bodhi still sounds slightly out of it as he says “I brought the message. I’m the pilot, I’m the pilot”, but you skip the mumbling.

I enjoyed the opening crawl very much, but I take minor issue with the very last lines about the new superweapon bringing order to the galaxy. ANH’s tells us that Princess Leia is custodian to the plans that will bring freedom to the galaxy, which we see in a sympathetic light. Your phrasing here almost invites the same sympathy, as if Director Krennic is just trying to do the right thing and give the galaxy order and stability. While Rogue One is a bit more of an exception, it is still pretty apparent that it fits in with other Star Wars movies in not being subtle who is good and who is evil.

This is all my trademark, long-winded way of saying that I feel a different choice of words should be used that indicates Krennic’s malicious intent, like, “that will completely subjugate the galaxy,” or, “that will ensure the Emperor’s total rule of the galaxy.” I feel like my phrases are pretty poor, but something along those lines would better describe the situation in my mind.

Since you mention making alternate versions, I hope you will make one with the episode number. If you are making a trilogy with this as episode III, I’d love to see you retain that number. I’ve always wanted a prequel trilogy that deserved its numeric order, and you might be the one to create it.

I hope you will be using the ROTS deleted scenes when you get to your Episode II. This will obviously be somewhat disconnected from the other two in the trilogy, and I feel you should do all you can to maintain that connection. Including Mon Mothma in deleted scenes and giving more for Bail Organa to do will help in that regard. I hope you will also use the HAL9000 ending where we only see baby Leia and a surviving Padme.

I feel like I’m rambling, but it’s late and I should be working on homework, and ideas are flowing to my brain that don’t necessarily fit this thread. I think you could help maintain the supposed mystery of Vader’s identity with his creation in Episode II along with Anakin’s death. Obviously, you would never show Anakin’s retrieval. You could transpose Palpatine’s line, “Soon I will have a new apprentice,” into the scene where he’s talking to the Separatist leaders in place of, “When my new apprentice, Darth Vader arrives, he will…take care of you.” This would take place after Anakin has already turned evil, so it could lead you to believe that Palpatine is actually coming to rely on a new mystery character. Perhaps, with appropriate editing and deletions, it might be passable. Remove all other references to Anakin being Darth Vader, and then at the end, make a very brief appearance of suited Vader with the lines placed like the ROTS trailer: “Lord Vader.” “Yes, Master.” “Rise.” And with dramatic music, Vader is raised to a standing position in his hospital bed, with none of the transformation shown. After this very brief appearance, we cut away from him immediately and do not see him until your new Episode III.

Not sure how viable this is. Just late night inspiration talking.

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit.

Like these cuts/changes
But the cassian not shooting informant, I like chirrits I’m blind remark.
Did you somehow remove jyn saving the little girl, hate that part, and where chirrut kicks dirt in the troopers face , cheesy.

Also Rise of the rebellion is a great name for this, glad there is no episode number.

and thanks for fixing all the other stuff, red eyes suck, nor gullet sucks, title cards suck, planet names suck.

Mardukk666,
Jyn still saves the girl. Chirrut’s trooper smack down is greatly abbreviated to remove the Kung Fu-ish antics/cheese. He’s more of a character rather than a cultural figure in this edit.

darth_ender,
I may attempt something later on, but honestly I just can’t bring myself to watch episodes II & III. I’ll most likely leave any prequel stuff for my TV edit ideas. That way I can chop them up to 30-45 min episodes. I’d want to remove as much of Anakin as possible. The Anakin we got just diminishes Darth Vader. I’d rather keep the mystery of Darth Vader than show the disaster that was Anakin. I could even show Obi-Wan fighting Darth Vader with a red rotoscoped blade on Mustafar. He’d never call him Anakin, just refer to him as the Sith. We’d not see Padme in the edits in her wife/mother capacity either, just as a queen and senator.

I am really interested in this edit. Like everyone else on here, I have my own issues with some of the edits you have chosen, but as a whole I love everything you’ve done. I am in the minority that is against having a crawl for R1. I would cut the coruscant dream sequence myself. I would also keep the churrit comedy bits. I would also keep the meeting I’d Saw too. But without actually seeing this edit a can’t say for sure how I feel about the changes you’ve made. Looking forward to it

Hey Digmod, I’m sure I suggesed this already, but the shadows of the Empire Main theme goes soooooooooo F’N good with the opening scene, I had put this theme to an early copy with one of JackPumpkinHeads crawls, and it flowed so well, I fell in love with it. I re-pourposed it to go with your crawl intro. did it real quick, ain’t got much time this weekend so it could defintetly be tweeked to work better but this gets the idea across. I hope you watch it. has a nice peacefull intro, then just enough Imperial march to let you know this guy is an agent of the empire, like everyone wouldn’t know already. Hope you like it. https://mega.nz/#!MWZn0RJB!PP5TXCfJu_KhsXboex72aur1F8rfYK-RGJroYlIRT08

Thanks for sharing the idea marduk. I had tried that it actually near the beginning of creating the crawl. It didn’t work from me personally though. I may have another stab at it though 😃

Unofficially it’s finished. I’m just trying to actually get a Blu Ray done this time as it has been requested by a few. Making the menus and everything takes quite a bit of time.

I planned to release a 15gb MP4 and a 25gb Blu Ray. I’ve tried to render a 720p 4gb file, but honestly it looked like trash. I do have a streaming option available for the MP4.

What are you using to make the menus? I have been wanting to make menus for my avchd discs I am planning and from what I have been able to gather, bluray and avchd are essentially the same just one is a smaller size
