@MalàStrana I thought he meant “stands out” as in looks out of place.

I actually disagree that every single effects shot was improved for RoTJ SE versions. They left most of them alone compared to the other two films, because many of them (such as in the final space battle) looked great in 1983. Compared to ANH, where they updated almost all of the battle of yavin with either CGI or recompositing.

At best, all they will do for the Sarlacc is rescan the same garbage they already made. I really doubt they’re going to make new CGI for it.

And yes, if you’ve seen the blu-ray you’ll notice that it seems to go out of focus for a long stretch of the movie as they approach Endor, and then the early scenes on the surface. It’s totally unacceptable for a professional mastering. It’s not just a few shots, those are Harmy’s examples, it’s a few whole scenes.

Ok, I thought it meant something else as a matter of fact.

What do you guys think of for what SE footage I should use. Currently it stands as:

-Rancor SE effects
-No eyebrows on Vader (SE)
-New city celebrations/new song (SE)
*no wesa free and Sebatian shaw remains as ghost though

And I’m thinking of adding space battle SE effects. Might have to compare some footage and get opinions from people on it before I make a decision.

I’ve checked the scenes on the blu ray, Schorman’s HDTV, and on Harmy’s. I concur Harmy’s 2.5 has better colors, but I fail to see the out of focus issue. Harmy’s seems more clear with better looking stars, and the Vader bridge scene is more detailed (less dark), but for the close ups I really don’t see the issue of the blu ray (just the fact it’s a little bit too dark).

To add more to my case: I really like the SE Sarlacc and Banthas 😃 But Jedi Rockz still sucks (too long, too cartoon oriented, too stupid; the song is not that bad though). If I had the tool and skill I would try to trimm it and reuse the CGI elements instead of the static puppets of the theatrical version.

@ Darthrush
Sounds great, the best compromise and, more important, what YOU want to see (it’s your work after all !). I would nevertheless advise you to use the CGI Jabba’s barge, which is clearly an improvement over the original version. If you want feedback on some ideas, don’t forget to post them as movie clips here.

edit: don’t forget to use the 2011 version that corrects the weird “Emperor’s slug” effect.

Oh, I didn’t know you were almost finished. I’ll be happy to check your v1 edit.

Yah. It’ll take a couple days to render and then upload to Vimeo. I really want to get this on fanedit.org and establish it as a serious go to edit of return of the Jedi. I’m interested in how you’ll like how much of the Ewoks fighting I cut out. They almost completely are absent from the battle. It moves the third act faster with more focus on space battle and the throne room and when we are on Endor it’s pretty much Rebels defending the bunker. The cuts are pretty dang seamless and it flows well so hopefully nobody finds it too jarring.

That’s a good point.

Not sure what else to tell you about the image quality for those scenes, if you don’t see it. But, it sucks, and shouldn’t have been that way for a professional release. 😃

I noticed the first time I looked at the BD and assumed that the original negatives for those scenes had to have been lost, so they went to something downstream. Well, that’s apparently not the case if a theatrical 35mm print looks much better.

If your rough cut is ready, would be interested in watching what you’ve done.

-New city celebrations/new song (SE)

Add the new song, but please don’t add the cities. It’s so out of place and makes no sense.

Gosh I completely forgot about this project. Still not in the mood for sharing it DarthRush ?

I like the cities cause it gives the victory more scope and it can explained by means of the holonet. I will keep this in mind, in case I get more complaints. Then I will reconsider it. Thanks for the suggestion 😃

No, no, no – you’re misunderstanding him. He’s clearly referring to a person whose name is Iv.

Hey darthrush, is the edit good to go for viewing/in a downloadable state? Reading through your change list this seems like it could be the go to version of RotJ for me.
