On the other hand, I’m really liking the look of Ahch-To in TLJ.

On the other hand, TLJ seems to be a visual achievement. Something TFA is not.

The awards ceremony at the end of the movie could’ve taken place a few days after the Battle of Yavin unless otherwise stated in the shooting script.

Most likely since they had rebuilt R2 in the meantime. Those probably were rebels coming to celebrate.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

And about Luke not actually being a great pilot because he gets helped a couple times, agree you forgetting he and wedge are the only ones who even survive?

There’s a Y-wing flying away at the end too.

If only three Rebel pilots survived the DS battle, then who the heck are all these guys?

I presume they were keeping the majority of TIE fighters occupied elsewhere while designated squadrons made the trench runs, and flew off in a different direction once Luke made a successful torpedo shot.

Maybe the pilots at the end of A New Hope are brand new pilots that jumped ship from the Imperial Academy and they just finished their Rebel indoctrination. The awards ceremony at the end of the movie could’ve taken place a few days after the Battle of Yavin unless otherwise stated in the shooting script.

Nah, one of the books explains it by saying there’s only thirty available ships so those at the celebration couldn’t fly up with Luke and Co.

Not enough people read the EU.

If they had more trained pilots than ships, why was Luke, who had no training with spaceships, flying an X-Wing?

IIRC they let him jump the line because he busted Leia out of the Death Star. It’s not a great explanation but it works for me when you factor in the whole will of the Force thing. I can buy that the Rebels are more accommodating to the idea than they probably should be because the Force wants it to happen.

Anyway, you’re all burying the lede with that story. The big thing about it is that it canonizes Fake Wedge as his own character, who everyone in-universe actually refers to as Fake Wedge.

I love proclamations based on trailers. They may turn out to be right but they often aren’t and so making them is quite silly.

I totally agree. By nature, trailers only show the most visually successful scenes. How could we deduce something from it, or compare it to a complete movie?

seems (not “is going to be”)

Anyway, you’re just trolling anyone who has faith in Episode VIII.

Well, I have faith in Episode VIII, but I shouldn’t compare a trailer to a full movie. And I enjoyed Episode VII a lot.
Who is trolling here ?

Yeah that makes no sense.

LOL, These were the cowards that declined to go with the squadron on the assault on the Death Star, or maybe their star fighters were all being worked on in the hangar…

Who is the more foolish, the fool, or the one who follows him?

In my personal canon, many the pilots at the end are new pilots who’ve ranked up since most pilots didn’t come home. They were previously in training, but not ready to go out on the big mission without the possibility of being in the way more than helping out. Probably among the guys we see preparing the ships, gassing em up, ect. before the attack.
Also, the Rebels had more pilots than ready ships.
(and before “But Luke had just showed up!”, not everybody who joins the Rebellion has the experience/skill/confidence or someone to vouch for em.)

Hadn’t read this thread in a while. Walked in to see a pages-long argument about why Rey is/isn’t a Mary Sue, and/or why calling anyone that is sexist and trolling.

Skipped to the bottom of the thread after the first few pages of this. Ugh.

So, has anybody ever seen a Star Wars movie?

I have never personally seen a Star Wars film, as in a reel of film on which was contained a print of Star Wars. I have only ever seen a projection of light through said film.

He asked about SW movie, not SW film.

I just finished a marathon of the OT plus TFA with some friends, and I watched the PT and R1 last week, so I am extremely sure about my ranking right now.

SW = ESB > TFA > ROTJ > R1 > TPM > AOTC = ROTS

EDIT: Just noticed that I had ROTJ in there twice instead of ROTS.

1.) Star Wars
2.) The Empire Strikes Back
3.) Return of the Jedi
4). The Force Awakens
5). The Phantom Menace (I’m part of the minority that thinks this is the best prequel)
6.) Revenge of the Sith
7) Attack of the Clones

I don’t think this group is a minority, at least here.

SW = ESB > TFA > ROTJ > R1 > TPM > AOTC = ROTJ

Almost finished my marathon as well (still patiently waiting for TFA-restructured to be finished to watch it), so no real changes for me:
SW = ESB > ROTJ > ROTS > TPM > AOTC > TFA > R1
