Ideas Thread: for... Joel Schumacher's Phantom of the Opera

Wgman did an excellent job of turning the PotO into a music video for the London cast.  It also got me thinking.

Today I started the first few cuts of a new edit where the London Cast libretto would be the guide to the story, the movie actor’s dialog would remain their own, and the movie cast’s singing voices would be redubbed with the London cast recording (upmixed via DPLII to 5.1).

The premise was that I always felt that the movie cast just wasn’t strong enough vocally, but listening side-by-side, I realized they actually do a very good job.  It’s my memory that’s faulty.  (Don’t get me wrong, Gerard Butler still sounds more like a petulant child than a menacing presence.)

So scrapping the project, I was wondering if an edit would still make sense.

The movie moves the chandalier falling to the end of the film, which although true to the original original source material, isn’t true to the Lloyd Weber’s show.

My other big complaint is Madame Giry’s added backstory for the Phantom.  It’s suppose to make him more sympathetic, but to me it’s actually pretty dull and makes him seem even less dangerous than Gerard already made him.

(Actually, I even toyed with the idea of the sword fight in the cemetery involving the Phantom throwing fireballs with his left hand while sword fighting with his right.)

Is anyone interested in a fan edit of this film?  Suggestions?  Comments? One hand clapping?
