who likes the Trek? Star Trek that is. I'm glad they are making a 11th film, although not too happy about it possibly not being a TNG film. I like the Original Series, but please, don't devote anymore movies to that series.

I'd personally like to see them make a hybrid film involving possibly the crew from TNG making a trip to DS9, meeting up with Voyageur, getting into some trouble and Riker's ship the Titan coming in to save the day. Sounds pretty generic but they really should incorporate atleast one of the other shows into the movie for more than a 5 minute cameo.

Anyone else like Star Trek?

Star Trek is alright. There are istances where the science is ridiculous and where it's a bit too full of itself, but there is also a lot of good stuff. First Contact, for example.

The webmaster of this site is a Star Trek fan too, actually.

Jay is a Star Trek fan? Fascinating. And yes, I like it too.

I'm not. I think it is too soon. I think Trek needs some time to rest.

I'm not a huge Star Trek fan that goes to conventions or even trek websites, but I do like it. I can always happily sit and watch a rerun of TNG.

I like the films especially the first four, Undiscovered Country and First Contact, though the others are a bit crappy IMO I dont mind them, but the only TV Star Trek i like is the original series, I dont really care about an 11th film being made though I would see it and judge it then.

Warbler's right - Stra Trek really should have a hiatus.

I think so too. Enterprise was 92% suck and even Nemesis wasn't very well received because the plot was so similar to Wrath of Kahn, and Voyager, well, it had a crappy ending.

Well the last film was out in 2002. It's been 4 years already, and with the movie possibly hitting theaters in 2007-2008 that'll be 6 years. Trek has never really had that length a rest inbetween pictures so I mean they are taking their time in doing so.

I think Trek needs a rest a long as the rest it got between TOS and The first movie.

Agreed.

As for Star Trek, we need at least a 10 year break with no TV shows or movies, then a triumphant return with some fresh ideas..

Personally, I'm looking forward to what J.J. Abrams & Co. can bring to the Star Trek franchise. It certainly won't be dull.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

The major problem with Star Trek today is that there isn't really anything that is movie-worthy available to them. Voyager and DS9 I think isn't too familiar to the general movie-going public to be successful, and nobody would want to see an Enterprise movie, and TNG seems to be worn out. I don't think they really have much left but the Kirk and Spock in the academy idea, but I'm not certain that it will work.
Anyway, I like all the original Star Trek movies, and First Contact. Yes, even Star Trek 5, that nobody else cared for. The other TNG movies I didn't personally like very well.

I like Star Trek. I'd like to see them do something with Christopher Pike, the Enterprise captain from the abandoned 1960s pilot "The Cage" played by the late Jeffrey Hunter. But it probably won't happen.

I didn't like how, as the Next Generation films went along, Picard seemed to morph into Kirk. I like Kirk, in fact I prefer Kirk Trek over TNG Trek, but if I'm going to sit down and watch a Picard Trek, I expect Picard to act like Picard and not like Kirk.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

I don't consider myself a huge Star Trek fan, but I do enjoy watching the shows and the movies sometimes, and I know the characters. A lot of the episodes are crap, every now and then they will hit something interesting.

IMHO Star Trek has already worn itself out with the number of episodes and the number of movies, if they make a new one soon I will be happy to go and see it. I really think J.J. Abrams can make something interesting out of it. As far as beating the dead horse, my feelings are that it is already dead and if they ruin it any further it doesn't make that much of a difference. I do think Rick Berman needs turn it over to somebody who still cares about Trek however.

See, now that would be interesting.

Maybe instead of Kirk they could do Pike at the academy. Over a series of films he eventually becomes captain of the Enterprise for a short period until he either dies (heroically of course) or is stripped of his rank and kicked out of Starfleet (again for doing something heroic - doing something he knows will get him court marshalled but it's for the greater good).

You can't kill him off because Pike was in an Episode of TOS called "The Menagerie", he was clearly never demoted, although seriously injured in some sort of accident where he sacrificed himself to save others he was paralized and stuck to a wheel chair. To kill Pike off would create a big plot inconstancy. If they tried to do with Trek what they doing with Superman (i.e. forgetting some of the episodes or movies) I will refused to see such movie.
