But the more important thing is, have you seen another movie since then?

Well, yes, but I can’t talk about that one yet because I haven’t seen two movies.

Good, so at least you got two out of the three words in the thread title right.

You can pretend words mean whatever you want em to, but that’s just not how it works.

Yes it is. Words mean whatever to whomever is using them, and to whomever they are communicating with. I was not communicating directly to you, therefore I was not holding myself to your standard of definition.

Words change over time depending on usage, and there is no dictionary definition regarding whether the word “seen” is defined as meaning “all” or “in part”, nor if in part how much in part or of what part.

You’re buckets, chicken agrees purple Jimi Hendrix turbo moist.

In other words, “I suppose you could be right that words mean whatever to whomever is using them.”

That’s a strawman argument if I’ve ever heard one.

Instead of arguing with me, why don’t you talk about what you’ve watched?

It is silly though. What happens when you finish the movie? Will you post about it again?

Author

But that would mean you’ve seen it twice, when really you’ve only seen it once.

unless you watch to the very end of the credits, and see the MPAA certificate number, then i don’t think you can claim to have seen the entire movie.

I would have only seen it once in its entirety, yes.

At the moment, the penultimate movie I’ve seen (yes, in its entirety), is now Captain Jack Sparrow and the Heart of Davy Jones. I haven’t seen Dead Man’s Chest often nor recently enough to compare it to an edit, but this edit is pretty good. It still suffers from not being nearly as good as The Curse of the Black Pearl, nor feeling like the park ride, but it’s a good adventure flick.

So you’re also saying no unpaused bathroom breaks and no chill.

Yeah but did you actually read it to the end or did you just read half of it and then post here?

Okay but since you’ve said words mean whatever to the person saying them, so did that mean yes or no?

Also, I don’t think you understand how language works. The meanings of words do change over time and space. The same words can mean different things to different people. For example, what Americans call “fries” are called “chips” by the English. The inherent purpose of language is such that one person can communicate with another and understanding of intended meaning can be reached. The manner in which people are able to use specific words to convey meanings and ideas is fluid and not fixed, and miscommunication in a common occurrence in society as a result.

The original post did not specify whether or not watching a film without completely finishing it (yet) was acceptable. And the original poster also has not elaborated to support either front. I couldn’t think of what my then-penultimate-completely-watched-film was, so I posted a penultimate-mostly-watched-film instead. The word “seen” does not inherently convey what percentage of a movie must be experienced. Therefore, when I posted I said I hadn’t actually finished it yet. Now I have, but I haven’t watched another movie since watching it, so never you mind my opinion of it yet.

So where in the world and at what point in time does “seen” mean “partially seen” then?

Alright, this has gone far enough! This isn’t the philosophical hair splitting thread! I will report you all if this doesn’t come to an end! Swiftly!!!

So what’s the weather like where you live?

Why does it matter so much to you to belabor the point? Why are you so rude and combative about it? Do you need a hug?

JEDIT: It rained yesterday, so my lawn was wet and I couldn’t mow. Today is sunny but I still can’t mow because I won’t get home until it is dark.

Batman Returns.

I expected to like it less than I did. I guess the style and tragic romance made up for the stupid Penguin shit.

The dictionary shall resolve this issue. Now, what is the definition of seen, according to the New Oxford American (so, no colour) Dictionary?

past participle of see.

And the definition of see is…

1 perceive with the eyes; discern visually: in the distance she could see the blue sea | [no object] : Andrew couldn’t see out of his left eye | figurative : I can’t see into the future.
• [with clause] be or become aware of something from observation or from a written or other visual source: I see from your appraisal report that you have asked for training.
be a spectator of (a film, game, or other entertainment); watch: I went to see King Lear at the Old Vic.
• visit (a place) for the first time: see Alaska in style.
• [in imperative] refer to (a specified source) for further information (used as a direction in a text): elements are usually classified as metals or non-metals (see chapter 11).
• experience or witness (an event or situation): I shall not live to see it | [with object and complement] : I can’t bear to see you so unhappy.
• be the time or setting of (something): the 1970s saw the beginning of a technological revolution.
• observe without being able to affect: they see their rights being taken away.
• (see something in) find good or attractive qualities in (someone): I don’t know what I see in you.

And what is a past participle?

noun Grammar
the form of a verb, typically ending in -ed in English, that is used in forming perfect and passive tenses and sometimes as an adjective, e.g., looked in have you looked? and lost in lost property.

The perfect tense requires that an action both start in the past and end in the past or to have been “completely done.” Whether the mere seeing of part of the movie means that the action is completely done is open to interpretation.

^So, in other words…you didn’t resolve anything.
