Pages slow loading?

Author
Time

Been experiencing longer times for pages to finish loading up at the bottom the past week or so. (You can't scroll to the bottom of the page or see the newest posts while it's "hung up".) I thought it was just image heavy threads and those video banner ads at first, but it's happening all the time now.

Anybody else having this issue?

I wanted to reply yesterday, but it took this long for the page to load.

Seriously, I've had the problem too.

We're experiencing the usual increase in site traffic that happens every September. That's probably part of it. We have more activity and content than ever before, which is weighing on the db and web server.

I also have a feeling that my hosting service views the hardware on which ot.com is hosted as legacy stuff that isn't getting the attention and resources it once did. It's probably outdated and has too many sites running on it.

We should see speed gains when the new software is running on the new hosting service (fingers crossed).

No, I don't have an estimated launch date :)

What is so special about September?  End of summer?

It's getting progressively worse for me today. Longer pages are really getting hung up. It's like 1990's dial up service!

Yup. Traffic always wanes during the summer and picks up again in September.

Not sure why you guys are having trouble. Page load speed seems to be the same as always for me.

I can confirm that there's been a slight delay on my end more recently as well, but usually when I'm on a public computer rather than on my laptop. Don't know if that means anything or not, since it's connected to the same wifi network on campus, but add me to the list.

How many simultaneous connections can the DB handle?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Theoretically, SQL Server is supposed to support over 32,000 simultaneous connections, but the hardware required for that is absurd.

I don't know if the hosting service has implemented a hard limit or what that limit might be.

What if they're all Bingowings?

Naturally I don't always post from the same place.

I can in theory open a portal anywhere in time and space.

I've had the slow-loading pages problem for quite awhile as well, but only more recently have I gotten error messages implying that the server keeps crashing.

I wrote up a joke about how bad it's been recently and the fact that I posted this three days ago...and then it failed to post.  Ha-ha, joke is on me.

I've also noticed the site hanging up while waiting on "doubleverify.com" to respond.

There is a spam thread currently on the off topic forum offering the Life Of Pi to pirate.

I tried to click on it to report it in the conventional way but the page won't load and times out.

Is that an indication of you being on the case already?

Been having this issue again since the server migration. Even the main forum page gets hung up, so I don't think it's the usual choking on image heavy thread pages thingy.

I have not had this problem since the migration, in fact just the opposite.

Weird. What browser are you using?
