Old PMs

Wasn't sure where I should put this, so I decided to ask in this section.

Anyway, I was wondering if there's a way to get back my PMs from the previous version of the forums. The old ones are gonzo now. I'm thinking the answer is no, but no harm in checking, right? ;)

You can still access your PMs at the old forum here, but not for much longer. If there's anything you need, get it now.

Old PMs won't ever be ported over to the new software. The PM engine is completely different in the new software and porting messages over would've been a monumental pain.

At the moment, 200 total messages, which includes both your inbox and sent items.

Having gotten up to over 140 total messages already (down to around 120 after deleting a bunch), I'm wondering what the significance of your "at the moment, 200 total messages" is. ;)

More would be great, but if it's not possible, at least 200 is a monstrous amount compared to how it was before. Heh.

The primary reason I capped it at 200 is because I wasn't sure how quickly the database would fill up with the new software. Once it went live, the database got really bloated really fast and kept running out of space. The culprit turned out to be the search engine, so I rewrote how that works, almost completely removing the data bloat and increasing its speed in the process.

I just bumped the PM limit to 500 because I see no reason to cap it any longer at such a low amount. Hope that's enough for a while.

I also just thought of a new feature to implement: full text search of your PM box. Sound useful?

Wow, 500 is great! Thanks, Jay. Very nice! :)

And yes, I think the PM box search would be good. Sometimes we'll have a ton of "Re: [whatever]" messages, and you have to go through all of them just to find one link or tidbit of information or whatever. Things could be sped up tremendously in some cases.
