I mean, I thought Return of the Jedi established that Fett basically lived at Jabba's. Not that I ever much liked the idea, but what the hell else is he doing just chilling there in the movie?

For all we know from the movies, Boba is just someone who Jabba reccommended to Vader. The lengends universe made him the best bounty hunter in the galaxy.

Neither makes a whole lot of sense, but the idea of him chilling over at Jabba's hut seems much better than the alternative. I always figured he's getting paid to be there. A bodyguard, perhaps, albeit a really ineffectual one.

Naturally, the real explanation is that he was a meanie in ESB and thus needed to get defeated by a hero in RotJ, but no one bothered to think his inclusion through. That's shoddy RotJ scriptwriting for you.

Nobody pointed fingers at Dark Horse when something showed up in their comics, so why does everyone point fingers at Marvel?

Because Marvel's lost too much dignity and self-respect over the decades.

Vader called him the best in the HS cartoon. ;)

Apparently Fett lives at Jabba's.

This sounds like a really crappy sitcom.

 Or Star Wars: Detours. ;)

Wasn't that explained in Tales of Jobba's Palace?

I pretty sure the pre-PT EU makes it clear that Fett lived aboard his ship. He was only staying at Jabba's palace for an extended but temporary period of time for reasons I can't recall at this moment.

We had seen him showing of his gun in a hotel or something in the Force Unleashed comic.

Sounds like the same sort of greedy speculation that pretty much ruined the hobby for many people in the 90's.

And I'm no artist, but the way the legs are drawn doesn't look right to me?

I guess drawing our heroes to look like the actors who played them is right out as well...

What's shoddy about it? Here's what we know from the ESB:

1: Boba Fett is a bounty hunter. It's a seedy gig.

2: He's clear that in addition to the Imperial bounty on the Falcon, he also wants to deliver Han to Jabba for a reward.

Here's what we know from ROTJ:

1: Boba Fett is at Jabba's palace. Maybe he's chilling, maybe he's working. He's armed and ready, so it's not unlikely Jabba hired him. Is it possible he USUALLY works for Jabba, and spends lots of time at the palace? This is possible but there's not evidence one way or the other.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Which is why I have no respect for Marvel anymore. Gimmicks have come to be of greater importance to them than good writing.

Some of those cover variants are fun. Boba Fett in The Punisher pose is a nice homage. The Jaxxon one is the only variant I would go to any trouble to find.

Why Leia is wearing a Jabba palace guard getup before Lando ever did, I have no idea. If it turns out they stashed that outfit on the Falcon, and Lando happens to find it when he needs one years later... ;)

As Threepio once said, "This is madness!"

FOUR more cover variants have been announced since I made that last post bringing the current total to THIRTY EIGHT.

Four more, and we can let loose with the Hitchhiker's Guide jokes. ;)

The sad part is someone will feel compelled to buy all of them.

No doubt,  that's a bit of overkill. They run the risk of going too far with 38 and counting (if they continue).  I think the store-specific versions are interesting though.  I'm surprised the Texas version isn't for Third Planet in Houston or Tribe, here in Austin.

The evil side of me is hoping this gluttony comes back to bite Marvel in the ass and bite it HARD.

I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but it almost feels like artists working on these are being forced to draw in a certain style. That stiff, lifeless, traced-photography look... It's as if getting the resemblance right comes before the storytelling.

Now, I realize how hard it is to draw comics, so I'm not knocking these guys. The effort is appreciated. But I wish they'd hire artists with different, distinctive styles and just let them go nuts with it, interpret the characters (visually) the way they want.

Hasn't that pretty much been the standard for Star Wars comics for a good while? I'm pretty sure my Episode II comic from back in the early aughts looked like that cover SilverWook posted, only with better perspective work.

I think stiff, lifeless, traced-photography artwork has become a trademark of the Big Two (DC & Marvel, that is). It certainly isn't a new thing for them.

Does SW require different style of art? I was always happy with, isn't that the recent DH style?
