I am currently reading my way through the old EU (Legends) material and am debating on whether or not to continue into the New Jedi Order books? Any thoughts on how worthwhile an endeavor that is - one way or the other? And, relatedly, how much Prequel stuff makes its way into those novels?

Except for killing off Anakin Solo, introducing Ben Skywalker, and paving the way to the even worse Legacy era, it has no lasting consequences on the characters or their world. Avoid it and everything that comes after it.
Also, killing off Chewie.
I dunno, I kinda liked them.
I tried to read one of them and it was a mess. To me it felt nothing like SW, the characters, the situations…

the only good thing to come from this era was the legacy comics…which are largely standalone to the point where a non fan does not have to read or even watch the previous films to understand…read those comics instead
