NJVC Custom Blu-ray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions now available on Mega — Page 6

I think the question is, could the files for the 25GB version be posted with the video m2ts stream removed so people could download that and use the multiAVCHD method to patch in the MKV video. That way they can make the 25GB discs from the MKVs they already have without having to essentially re-download the entire video/audio portion.

Of course, if the video was compressed for the 25GB version, that won’t work, but if the video is untouched from the MKV, it should, right?

I’d assume so, but honestly, that sounds like a lot of work just to get the blu-rays a little bit faster and at poorer quality to boot.

Well, video quality would be the same since you’re not reencoding, and assuming you already have the MKV itself, it would be significantly faster to download. You’d just lose out on the extra stuff included in the BD50 version.

Of course, you’d have to make sure you remux the MKV to include the same audio and sub tracks that are on the BD25 version before you patch it in, otherwise you’ll probably run over on file size and the menus won’t point to the same tracks.

Just to clarify, and it’s understandable if people are confused, given that the 25Gb versions aren’t actually available anywhere to compare to…

The 25Gb discs that Njvc made do not have worse quality. He made them so the same amount of content is on more discs. 1 BD50 vs 2 BD25.

The kind of 25Gb discs users have proposed making in the last few pages would suffer in quality. They’re suggesting just running an app that re encodes all the video at much lower bit rate and rebuilds the disc.

But that is also different from rebuilding in multi avchd with a new video stream and not re encoding. Also, this can sometimes be tricky enough even replacing a stream of the same length/size. Releasing small ISOs without a main video track, so users can replace it, will probably turn this thread into a technical nightmare. 😃 Plus, they would need all the bonus content.

Oh, OK. I understand a little better now … I think.

People are wanting to spread the SW & ESB sets across three discs & ROTJ across four, correct?

I guess this would presumably be because they only want to have to buy one type of disc?

But yeah towne32 is right that it would be a major undertaking to rebuild those ISOs from the ground up, and way above my technical skills.

All in all, I’d say it would just be best to spring for a small pack of 50gb Verbatim dual layer blu-rays. There are packs of ten on eBay going for around $25. Then you’d even have a few spares in case of burning errors.

Is anyone else here having trouble getting their dual layer discs to play on their ps4? Mine will play perfectly through the first half of the movie, and then it will try to switch to the second layer of the discs but just freeze indefinitely. I seems to me like my ps4 refuses to play the second layer of my discs. I am using Verbatim dual layer discs from Japan if anyone is wondering

Nope. My PS4 plays them fine (Verbatim with just the white blank surface).

Have you tried burning at 2x speed? A number of forums recommend burning BD-DL (50GB) discs at 2x speed, even if they are rated at 4x or 6x, in order to reduce the chance of things going wrong at the layer change.

Also, I would recommend burning with ImgBurn software and “verify” turned on.

Out of interest, what is the media ID code of your discs? ImgBurn should be able to tell you this.

I had my discs scanned with imgburn and it says that the disc id is MEI-T02-001. The max supported speed was 4x, so maybe that could be the problem.

Also, when I play my movie in an actual blu ray player, it is able to read the second layer, but just gets really glitchy around the layer break. If I let the movie play naturally at the layer break, it will freeze, but if I skip ahead a couple scenes, the rest of the movie will play fine on the blu ray player.

They sound like Panasonic discs made in Japan for distribution by Verbatim, and are reported to be good quality. Try at 2x speed and see if your PS4 copes with the layer break.

Try burning at 1x speed. That’s the best way to have the least chance of burn glitches.

Just because a disc says it’s possible to write faster (i.e. the max supported speed) doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

That’s worth a try as long as the media/writer supports 1x burn speed. Otherwise he’ll probably get a coaster. ImgBurn does not list 1x speed among the speeds supported on my Verbatim BD-DL discs. I see 6x (rated), 4x and 2x, but only 2x works for me.

Well, in any case, the slowest possible supported speed is the best way to go.

But a question to the general community here. I didn’t know that various blu-ray drives or Verbatim discs might not support 1x burning. I thought that would be the same for everyone.

Is this not the case? And would it be a good idea to update the burning guide in my first post to include information about this?

So with the approaching Last Jedi, I’ve been watching the team negative grindhouse versions of the films. Finished A New Hope last night and wondered about these Despecialized Editions by Harmy. Seeing that there were these custom blu-ray copies by NJVC, I started my project to download the entire set last night (this morning) to it’s completion just now. Very uniquely awesome work here! With that said, as a Usenet aficionado, being that they were on Mega I had to pay for a premium account through alter sources for a Voucher Code. On that note, these may find their way “untouched” to usenet, disagreements? Or are they already on there “untouched”? The archival purposes along grant the community a 6 year reprieve from any disappearances. Obfuscation and Pass-wording can go a long way to prevent DMCA removal these days. I for one would hate to loose my copies and not have the Mega links accessible. The entire source looks like around 300gb (all original mega links md5 checked). A par2 set would be very convenient to have for recovery of corrupt rars retrieved by end users.

Does the community perfer to keep these in house to places like personal mega accounts or myspleen? I’ve never even heard of myspleen till now but I’m no rocket scientist :-p

Well the thing with this particular set is that NJVC got really picky and stingy about its distribution because of asshats selling it for profit on places like eBay. I don’t blame him a bit, but that’s why it’s only on the places it’s at.

And I completely agree, but as far as Mega goes, it’s a single point of failure or “control”. Especially given Mega’s past. Just a thought. You can’t protect against asshats by hindering the community that wants to enjoy it. Asshats will always exist, even beyond your knowledge. The Lego MF 75192 set had a custom stand built on rebrickable.com recently. People ended up listing up eBay even tho it’s completely free. I’ve never understood the choice of removing your media just because you don’t like people doing bad things with it. You screw over the people you meant to help making you just as bad as the people selling the media.

Just my thoughts, I still support a choice not to share by the content creator. I upload things to UseNet as my own archival process to protect myself. 6+ years of “free” “unlimited” unbiased cloud storage. Lol. These days usenet retention doesn’t shrink, everyday is another day of retention added. Gone are the days of retention wars.

No one is being “screwed over.” NJVC doesn’t owe us anything. We should all be grateful for the work he put into this and be grateful there’s a way for us to get them for FREE.

I get it no worries. They owe us nothing :-p. No sarcasm there. The screwed over part to me is the tease of later parties once it’s disappeared. I see it as a community effort to keep it alive once the original content creator shares their creation in efforts to share their own enjoyment. Color me an archivist. That said, I greatly appreciate the work and effort to continuing supply of this and it’s original creators. Thank You very much! I’m not that knowledgeable on every change to the series so I look forward to watching a definitive source to understand it! I shall become a convert.

Not true. He pulled his down from MEGA, yes, but then allowed val and I to reupload them. And once those expired he allowed them to be put up on MEGA a second time.

And just to reiterate how non screwed over we all are, the Despecialized editions themselves are very widely available. That’s what is most important.

And burning those to bluray is just about as simple as can be. The great menus and special features are a lovely bonus. But in terms of archiving and keeping available, it’s the main feature that counts.

I wasn’t saying he was wrong or that it wasn’t fair. I guess limited would have been a better way to put it.

Alright here’s an update.
I burned Star Wars at 2x like you recommended and also made sure that no other programs were running on my computer. I put it in my ps4, and for some reason it is actually worse. My ps4 now doesn’t even play the little intro by harmy from the beginning. Instead, its just a black screen for a second like it is trying to read it and then immediately plays the menu. When I try to play the movie, or do any function at the menu, the entire thing freezes.

Then, I put the same disc into my bluray player, and whaddya know? It plays everything perfectly. I skipped ahead to the layer break in the movie, which was at the point where the stormtroopers are inspecting the millennium falcon, and to my surprise, there was absolutely no buffer this time. All of the audio tracks work and all of the special features worked as well.

So, by burning this one movie at 2x, I have made it almost unplayable on my ps4, yet at the same time 100% playable on my bluray player. Very very strange indeed.

Will post again when the other two movies are finished

Ok, I’ve downloaded Star Wars 2.7 BD50 so far. I’ve checked the hashes and it’s all verified. I can’t burn the disc yet as I don’t yet have a burner, but I mounted it and opened it in VLC. Everything works except for the main feature which won’t play at all. Could it be a limitation of my laptop (which isn’t the greatest)? I haven’t yet tried it on my main rig yet as I’m still downloading the rest of the ISOs but I do it from work because I have a crazy data cap where I live. I’m going to try it out tonight, but wondering if this is a common issue? My laptop is a 64-bit Lenovo t420i Thinkpad with Windows 10 with 4GB RAM. Intel i3-2350M CPU at 2.3GHz. I’ve mounted the ISO from a 5TB external hard drive (but connected to USB2.0 not USB3.0 as my laptop doesn’t have USB3.0 ports).

vlc likely will not play the main feature.

It may be worth giving this a try - the Leawo Blu-ray Player…

It is free, easy to use and does it’s job very well - plus, it’s available for both mac and windows computers. It can be downloaded from:-

and likely a fair few other places too. videohelp.com is a great resource - and may have other free alternative players too.

Good luck with it 😃
