The original star wars trilogy from 1977-1983 restored for anamorphic HD blu ray video.

Not a dump of the gouts source on a blu ray disc, which i'm sure Lucas would do.

Actually my dream star wars set would be like Ridley Scotts's 5 versions of blade runner set, and the special features would be retrospective documentaries and commentaries. Deleted Scenes, screen tests, and the old making ofs.  And the original trilogy restored by Robert Harris with the other cuts included.

Back to the Future Trilogy i have heard this one is in the works, i was dissapointed both us releases did not include the english dts.  So i did not buy the dvd.  I will at some point buy the japan release which has been re-issued and still has the dts.

Indiana Jones trilogy without the added cgi in raiders, george cannot just slip that scene in there and expect me not to notice.  He did the same thing with American Graffiti.

THX 1138 and American Graffiti without any cgi tinkering or i won't buy them.

The Man with No name trilogy By Sergio Leone, yes already out in italy or something but a  us release would be nice.

From Criterion i would like to see Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Seven Samurai and Hidden Fortress on Blu Ray.

I would like a proper release of star treks 1-6 without dvnr ruination.

Both cuts of the lord of the rings trilogy via seemless branching, i know new line is doing them as seperate releases to make more money.

Is JAWS or E.T. on Blu Ray yet? if not then i want those in their theatrical cuts, if spielberg can put out 3 editions on one release ofd close encounters he can do those.

The Conan movies have actually been on my wishlist for a while also. Conan the Destroyer's dvd is just a port of the laserdisc, so it hasn't even been remastered yet. Maybe Universal will wait until Lionsgate puts out the new movie to release the old ones on blu-ray, but then again they might not want to wait that long.

Legend will surely get released on blu-ray with both versions at some point.

Sky, THX-1138 is on the table for a blu-ray release sometime in the next couple years. Someone from Warner said so in a chat that's transcribed at digitalbits:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/032409htfchat.html

I would love it if they included the original version (as far as I know it's up to them and not Lucas), but we'll just have to wait and see.

Something that's at the top of my list is Mallrats, hopefully with both versions. I got the tenth anniversary dvd back when it came out, but I didn't discover until months later that the dvd-18 had a scratch in it causing the movie to skip right around the time Brodie tells the story about his cousin on the airplane. I tried bringing it back to the local shop I'd gotten it from even though they had a two-week policy. They wouldn't let me exchange it. I was too lazy to ship it off to the studio for a replacement. The scratch was on the theatrical side and when Universal ports the hddvd over to blu-ray, it'll pretty much undoubtedly be the theatrical version they put out. So I could just hang on to my dvd for the extended cut on the other side and get the blu-ray to get a non-scratched copy of the theatrical.

For a slightly different reason, The Blues Brothers. My sister borrowed the 25th anniversary dvd from me but she keeps all her dvd's in a case and OF COURSE she jammed more than one dvd into several of the sleeves. Blues Brothers, a dvd-18 like mallrats, didn't get out unscathed.

I'm sure Universal will port Dune over to blu-ray at some point. Maybe they'll wait and see if Paramount actually greenlights the new Peter Berg project and then time the blu-ray to coincide with the theatrical release (although that's years away at the earliest, so maybe they'll just get it out to blu-ray sometime soon just like every other hddvd).

Lionsgate said way back in '06 that they were planning on bringing the Dune miniseries to blu-ray, but still no dice.

Oh, and The Abyss. We'll probably get this in the next year or so now that Cameron is finally finishing up Avatar. I never got the dvd after hearing it was non-anamorphic.

There is already a french release of dune theatrical cut by Lynch on Blu Ray.

Not sure if it is region free or not.

A lot of times films you want on blu ray are out in other regions or countries, which sucks.  Like a Fistful of Dollars and a few Dollars more, i think the us does have a blu ray for the good the bad and the ugly.

Conan the barbarian is supposed to get blu ray release in september but in europe and probably region locked.

CONAN The destroyer had an anamorphic release just not in the u.s.a.

They took  forever to port over the restored anamorphic dvd of the first film in ntsc region 1 so  am not surprised.  The first film is considered a cult classic, and the second is considered a box office disaster only so far removed from the awful red sonja which was film number III.  But 2 is where the bad campy jokes started to be inserted.

They may have released destroyer in anamorphic form in germany but at least there they could make some of their money back.

Kind of like how the first beastmaster film is the only one the studios felt like wasting money on for dvd.

That set actually pisses me off. Granted, it's better than what we get in Star Wars, but why the FUCK should you have to buy a five disc set to get the original theatrical cut of Bladerunner? I mean, you can get the "Final Cut" in single disk edition, so why not the original? I personally couldn't give a FUCK about any version of Bladerunner other than the US or European theatrical cuts. All the other versions push the bullshit Deckard-is-a-replicant guff and I don't need that. Bladerunner is an overrated film and its saving grace is Harrison Ford's performance, and he's made it clear that he wasn't playing Deckard as any sort of replicant. I've got Bladerunner on VHS and I'm not buying any dvd or blu-ray of the film until I can get the theatrical cut without having to get a big 5-disc set. Why do filmmakers insist you buy their awful pompous director's cuts to get the real versions of the films?

Star Wars shouldn't be in a five disk set with all of the versions, either. Give us a three disk set of the OOT, with maybe a bonus features fourth disk. Or provide single-film editions. And then provide equivalent one-version-only editions of the other versions of the films for people who want them. So people don't have to buy versions they're not interested in. And the 1997 version should be available. Some people are attached to that and it's part of star wars history. Lucas shouldn't be able to erase from history what a horrible job they did on Jabba cgi the first time around. Not that the 2004 Jabba is much better -it still looks like a cartoon designed to be humorous (just more subtley) and it still looks two-dimensional, maybe even more so.

That Jabba crap is a fucking insult. Because it's not just limitations of cgi (and cgi can do a lot better), it's also a matter of how they chose to portray Jabba. As in with cartoonish facial expressions and not looking at all like his ROTJ self. The 2004 version is supposed to be the same version as the TPM version. Dumb. This is the OT, why not make him look like the OT version established in ROTJ? Plus the TPM version was crap. And they even had him fall asleep at the podrace in it, way to take from the character's menace. In the OOT, villains weren't made into jokes, but in the PT and SE that's a whole big thing.

That trilogy has been fucked around with like Star Wars, though not as badly. Most notably, the main available dvd edition of the third film is an altered version. If you want the version that made it famous in the English-speaking world you have to get the old dvd. I bet the English-language theatrical cut will never be available on blu-ray. Also, the uk versions of at least one of the other films has traditionally had some cuts. You'd think society would be past pointless censorship of films in this day and age, but no such luck.

Dune is one rare case where I don't go with the theatrical cut. Screw the theatrical cut. The extended tv cut is much better, whatever Lynch thinks. Put THAT on blu-ray and I'll buy it whenever I'm finally forced to switch to blu-ray.

Jees DarkGryphon2048. U prepered to replace most of your collection there? Kong 33 would be an interesting one for the format.

Although though its coming soon, HEAT and maybe, Shaving Ryans Privats (you know what i mean).

Exellent filums, and showcase audio for the right set-up.

But with MasterAudio, a full run time, and decent transfer, thank you please.

Lucash has already gone blu.  The bad fourth indiana jones film, the awful clone wars movie are both on the format.  And the entire first season of the new clone war cartoon is coming out next.

The first 3 indiana jones films will probably hit blu way ahead of star wars, too bad raiders will be the tampered with version that replaces a single shot with a cgi one.  And for that reason alone i will boycott the release.

I also won't be buying the ruined 2004 version of star wars trilogy, the shit prequels or the ruined versions of thx and american graffii.  Lucash can keep his cg alterations to himself, I want the real movies as they were in cinemas during their initial release.  Not as vanity projects he did when he cold not make anything new or original. I won't be paying to see Indiana Jones V in theaters.   Indiana Jones and the Search for more money.

Indiana Jones in Plan 9 from outer space.

The silly Clone Wars movie got a blu-ray release and a deluxe dvd relase and multiple dvd releases, but where's the film that made the legend? And even the preqels have gotten SE-ized and are likely to get even more changed by the time they reach screw-ray.

Well as long as all titles carry over the extras from the DVDs of the titles I do own I have no problems selling them. ALTHOUGH there are those titles I love way too much to sell the multiple versions I own. Quite alot are titles I used to own, was gonna repurchase and even ones I was going to buy on DVD. This just gives me an excuse to buy the Blu-ray version of the title instead of the DVD.

Notice how I didn't put any Star Whores movie on the list? (Thanks Fez!) I'm far more interested in Indiana Jones.

"Speaking" of the Blu-ray counterparts to the DVD, there are several if not a dozen or more where I'm in no way selling the DVD release. Other times it's a no-brainer but alot of it has to do with packaging and so forth. Of course I sold off alot of DVD's I own of which the titles are on Blu-ray. I just checked dvdcompare.net and a shitload of other sites for "safe" selling. If the Blu-ray in question doesn't have all the features of the DVD I own, I make a residual copy of the DVD in question and sell the actual studio release. Case-in-point, I sold my Special Collector's Edition DVD of Ferris Bueller's Day Off since the Blu-ray has everything from it but no fucking way did I sell the original DVD release with the commentary. Same goes for FIGHT CLUB: 10th Anniversary Edition. I own the first pressing digipak DVD and I consider it to be a very nice designed package which will compliment the Blu-ray in November. And when I eventually purchase Planet of the Apes (1968), I'm not gonna sell the shiny 35th Anniversary DVD release either.

No idea why I do this, maybe I have OCD of the nice release DVDs.

I hope Patton gets a re-release without the dvnr what an abomination that was.

I also want to see these titles restored in 70mm or their roadshow presentations. as Well as some other films.

The Alamo(John Wayne)

Spartacus

Ben Hur

Lawrence of Arabia

North By Northwest

Gone with the wind

Casablanca (already out but getting a re-issue)

Wizard of Oz

Citizen Kane

Bridge on the River Kwai

i'm sure there are other David Lean films worthy of blu ray as well.

North by Northwest is arriving onto Blu as a 50th Anniversary Edition (Digibook) on November 3rd. Only $25.99 for the pre-order at Amazon.com currently.

SPARTACUS would most likely be from Criterion, which is my opinion about that.

BEN-HUR in the 2.55:1 aspect ratio would be damn nice.

Ben-Hur is in the 2.76:1 aspect ratio (anamorphic 70mm) - 2.55:1 was an early standard for anamorphic 35mm with a magnetic audio track.  When magnetic/optical audio became the standard, it was changed to 2.35:1 (which was again changed to 2.39:1 in 1970).

I wonder what the Hidden Fortress will look like on Blu Ray.

Toho has already released some of the Kurosawa films to blu ray in japan.

Though i have not been able to find any screenshots online.

I would also like to see Yojimbo, Sanjuro.

I wish also wish Criterion would put out Sanshiro Sugata 1 and 2, known in the west as judo saga but they probably don't have the rights to it considering the lack of a laserdisc or dvd from them.

Ran was scrapped for rights reasons which was lame, but Kagemusha was the replacement.

Toho is also putting out a 1080p remaster of the original gojira/godzilla.

It will get a stateside release, but who knows if it will be the same master.  The classic media one was an abomination in comparison to the restored japan release on dvd.   Even the BFI release was better.

I wonder if the rights Holders for the old King Kong, are doing a blu ray transfer.  I would like to see some willis o'brien stop motion on blu like that or the lost world.  Also the entire catlalog of Harryhausen Including his swan song The Clash of the Titans.

I also want to see these 2 Bond films on Blu Ray, Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies.  If they can put shitfests like The World is not Enough and Die Another day on blu why not the other brosnan flicks?

Well i know someone botched the aspect ratio in the second dvd release for goldeneye so what is the chance they will ever offer that on blu ray consider it probably means a new scan.

After seeing the Adventures of Robin Hood being on blu ray i would also like to see the sea hawk, and captain blood.  As well as The Mark of Zorro Tyrone Power version, the black pirate with douglas fairbanks, scaramouche with stewart granger.

The restored Fritz Lang Metropolis is supposed to come out next year from KINO video, if no more delays happen.  I wish Kino would put out the douglas fairbanks catalog on blu ray, silent films with organ scores and intertitles on blu ray,lol what a concept.  The black pirate technicolor version is for me the must have of all fairbanks swashbucklers.

Players are coming down below $200, but pay attention to what you get.  Some of them don't have the network jack on the back which means you won't be able to do the BDLive and some other internet-based features on some discs.

Well, I could go on for years about everything that deserves a release.....but I don't even have a blu ray player so that would kinda be pointless.

However, these are the releases that would persuade me to go hi-def:

SW OT restored of course.

Lawrence of Arabia on at least 2 Blu-Ray discs so that we may finally have a great home video release-the same goes for Bridge on the River Kwai, Dr. Zhivago, Ryan's Daughter.

Vertigo with original soundtrack from the 2nd dvd. and other Hitchcock.

The original THX.

The original 161 min cut of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and the rest of Leone's films in their original mono soundtrack! Plus a transfer of the new fully restored Duck You Sucker! that premiered at Cannes this year. Also a double Blu-ray of Once Upon a Time in America.

Mask of the Phantasm. (the old DVD leaves much to be desired.)

Citizen Kane.

Works from: Wilder, Kurosawa, Lang, Murnau, Truffaut, and the list goes on....

The classic film noirs-Out of The Past, Chinatown, The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Ace in the Hole etc.

And the entire body of work of the master, Stanley Kubrick. Barry Lyndon is supposedly going through a full restoration for Blu right now.  Paths of Glory, The Killing, Spartacus, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove (in original multiple aspect ratios), and Killer's Kiss.

I would also re-buy the Blade Runner set on Blu.
