Mac BD burning troubles

Hey folks, quick question I'm hoping someone can help me with before I waste any more discs. I recently received a Samsung TSST SE-506C/RSBD usb 2.0 external blu ray writer that I'm attempting to use with my MacBook Pro, which is running OSX Yosemite 10.10.3. The drive is recognized just fine in Disk Utility, but every time I attempt to burn an ISO, it gets to about the 60% mark and then tells me the burn has failed and that I should try again at a lower speed. Trouble is, I get the same error when I'm at the lowest speed available. I thought it may be a problem with Disk Utility, but I got an identical error at the exact same time when I tried to do the burn in Aurora. Am I missing something, or is this just a much more finicky format than DVD?

EDIT: I got it to work on a Windows laptop I have access to, so my need is no longer urgent, but I'd still like to know if there's a trick for doing it with the Mac (other than buying Toast, that is).

I'm a mac guy too. Hoping to get a BD burner this year. Let me know if you ever figure it out on your mac!!

Cheers,

Have you tried other burning software such as toast...?

Give up on it, partition your hd/or make a bootable usb thumb drive with linux on it and use imgburn and other free software that is out there.

I’ve burned a number of blu-rays from ISO/DMG on mac using both Disk Utility and Toast without issue. Toast is often more successful.
