I haven't changed the file on Rapidshare, so I can't imagine how they would have transformed into shorter versions.

My vinyl is in very good shape, it was cleaned with proper record cleaner and my turntable is a Technics SL1200 but, more importantly, the cartridge is a high-end Ortofon that goes from 20-20. That's why it sounds good.

If you want your records to sound better, it's most likely not the turntable that needs to be replaced - get yourself a good cartridge and new stylus. These days, DJ shops are the best place to get them.

I am not posting a new rip of uncompressed files anytime soon. Anyone who thinks the MP3s I posted don't sound good enough can bite me. Compression artifacting is non-existent on my rips or else *I* would not be happy with them!

Interesting ... can you repost the link with the extended versions just so I can be sure I downloaded the right thing? What I downloaded from (IIRC) the third post had the times I noted earlier. I'm KEENLY interested in these way-long mixes. It almost looked as though the lengths were a cumulative tally, but that wasn't exactly right either so I'm at a loss.

Could you at least check? the lengths you posted are definately different than what we're getting lol... not sure why however...
If it's just a typo thats fine heh... it just has left us quite confused lol...

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

Since I'm bored, I downloaded the .ZIP from rapidshare again.
Exactly the same files I got back in May.
Loaded the .MP3s into two different apps (Foobar2000 & XMMS) and both showed the timings Mr. Mojo_(risin')_LA_(woman) listed in the original post.

Next I played the files with MPlayer and used a stopwatch to time them.
The first track ran 4:11, the second 3:41, and the third lasted 4:13.
I noticed in MPlayer's output 44.1kHz and 48kHz both among the diagnostic messages,
yet even the ratio 44.1/48 doesn't match the time differences.
I'll agree there's something strange going on. I'll be investigating further after work.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I've updated side 1 of the Electric Moog files as I think I'd set the pop filter too aggressively, which created problems with all those sawtooth waveforms. PM me if you want it.
