Little Shop of Horrors original ending (Released)

I have access to the original black and white alternate ending to the Rick Moranis musical. I guess it was on DVD for only a day or so before the director or whoever pulled it because he didn’t want it to be seen. The DVD was re-released without this bonus feature. Here is what my project is:

A disc two for those of us, like me, that only own the one-sided no-ending re-release. To fill up a DVD-5, and not duplicate features, it has the original ending with and without commentary from the original recalled release, plus the original 1960 version of the movie with Jack Nicholson on there as well, and the trivia from the “Holywood Classics” release of the 1960 movie, with a few more questions added by me. You will have to answer all of the questions correctly in order to view the ending. Also a photo/poster gallery/ animated menus and the soundtrack as mp3 DVD-rom extras.

UPDATE! Maybe I lied and it’s not finished? I just found out that a new version of the 1960 Roger Corman LSoH is being released may 1st. What do you think the chances are that I can replace the version on my project with a b&w/ coler version with commentary? possibly, and have it still fit on a DVD-5? As of now, nothing is compressed at all and the total with the DVDrom soundtrack is only 4.19 I think gb. Maybe before distributing I will wait for this new release.

Cool. Anyone know where to find anything else, such as the episodes of "Little Shop"?

So wait, are you making this DVD from a VHS dub of the original DVD? Because it shouldn't be that hard to track down a trader that has an actual copy of the original DVD.

Maybe, but how did you know that? I bought a VHS of the ending from eBay because the DVD was too expensive. I never said this was coming from a VHS in my original post, so how did ya know? I recorded it to my DVD recorder and it seems to be pretty decent quality. I guess you figured it out, maybe cuz if I wa the original DVD, then I wouldn't really need to do this project I guess.

OK then, anyone have the original DVD with the alternate ending?

yes i have it

i found the original dvd release on a torrent site a while back.

just a shame the original ending footage is in black and white

I have also just transferred Mega force from PAL laserdisc to dvd if anyone is interested

What's Mega Force? Here are the menus for the second LSoH release. It's about a 50mb file. If you wouldn't mind downloading and comparing them to the version you have. Is the only difference the ending? All of the features will play with what I have posted, except of course the movie, and not the "Alien Encounters" features either.

Hi,
The menu design is the same but on the original release it was a flipper with the special features on the second side

"I never said this was coming from a VHS in my original post, so how did ya know?"

LOL...if you'll notice, he only asked if you had done this.

"I have also just transferred Mega force from PAL laserdisc to dvd if anyone is interested"

Oh, HELL, yes!

Funny, I only had this on VHS too. I guess a lot of people just copied it VHSwise.

I was recently sent some photos from this film's other deleted scenes - not just the ending. The soundtrack album hints at some deleted material as well - notably the "The Meek Shall Inherit" dream sequence.

So the only thing different is the ending, right? On the current DVD, they have text pages about the ending, but no footage. So would you mind sharing side 2 of this DVD somehow?

Though it's just side 2, which is all I wanted anyway. I am actually almost done with this project. I just need the ending footage from the DVD and possibly the menu. Right now I modified the 1986 LS menus to kinda work for the 1960 version. It's gonna have all of the features from the "Hollywood Classics" collection- trivia (upped it to 10 questions instead of 5), bloopers, news reels, and of course the alternate ending of the 1986 movie. I'm figuring out DVD-lab Pro pretty well. A much better program than SpruceUp, which I had used previously. I just wish I could find anything having to do with the cartoon Little Shop. I kinda remember the theme song, it was a rap:

Little Shop, Little Shop,
I wanna go to the,
Little Shop, Little Shop
Alright it's time, for me to bust a rhyme
I'm comin' at ya, like toon style,
so get ready for a funny bone overload..

That's all I can remember. It was sang by the plant, Junior.

At least we have the menus done. I didn't know that the original ending also included a commentary until now. Cool!

Cool, thanks! After looking at the menus from this, everything except the original ending w/ and w/o commentary is on the other release. So what I will do when I finish downloading is create:

A disc two for those of us, like me, that only own the one-sided no-ending re-release. To fill up a DVD-5, and not duplicate features, it will have the original ending with and without commentary from the original recalled release, plus the original 1960 version of the movie with Jack Nicholson on there as well, and the trivia from the "Holywood Classics" release of the 1960 movie, with a few more questions added by me. You will have to answer all of the questions correctly in order to view the ending.

It's almost finished, all I need to do is add the ending I get from the torrent, and create new scene selection menus.

Without your help, mr-bridger, this wouldn't have been possible (except in a crappy DVD to VHS to DVD+RW to DVD-r transfer of the ending with no commentary). And thank you, ReverendBeastly, for I wouldn't have thought to get the footage from someone who actually owned the disc! Thank you very much!

Not sure how my version will be distributed yet.

Looking forward to those extras. I actually have the withdrawn DVD still sealed, and now I'm even less likely to be tearing into that case. I'll just watch your disc and pick up the reissued disc for a few bucks.

As for distribution, PM me if you'd like me to start a PIF channel for you.
where have i been all this time ?

No problem, mario. I have a bootleg VHS of the flick plus this ending at home and I never let myself transfer it to DVD-R at all because it just seemed stupid to me. Glad this came up.

It's working out rather nicely. Just got some pics from ocpmovie that I'll put on here, as well as his suggestion to include the soundtrack. I didn't really like the menus and stuff on the 1960 movie, so I thought I'd make it work with the 1986 menus. I originally said I was gonna have bloopers and newsreels that were on the "Hollywood Classics" DVD, but found out they weren't actually related to LSoH, so they're gone. I can't wait til this is done myself!

It's funny how things happen sometimes. I find my VHS tape of the ending, ocp gets some pics, and the play is coming here to Columbus, Ohio next month.
