Kill Bill on DVD

This one is going to stir up some controversy to say the least. This is from theDigitalBits and I would put a link to the NY Times article, but you have to have an account with the newspaper to read it, so why bother? This explains the gist of what's happening...

Finally this morning, I've saved the best (or worst) for last. The NY Times has a new story up on how the Hollywood studios are rushing to cash in on the DVD boom. Here's your happy, happy, joy, joy from the article... Miramax is reportedly preparing to release a half-dozen different DVD editions of Kill Bill:

"This is the beauty of having two volumes," said Rick Sands, chief operating officer at Miramax. "Vol. 1 goes out, Vol. 2 goes out, then Vol. 1 Special Edition, Vol. 2 Special Edition, the two-pack, then the Tarantino collection as a boxed set out for Christmas. It's called multiple bites at the apple. And you multiply this internationally." Mr. Tarantino has also cut an alternate version of the movie for Japan.

I'm gonna ask the obvious right now: Can you believe the BALLS required to make a statement like that in public? To a reporter? For a story that people are going to READ?! Do you suppose Miramax planned to let fans of the film know about all this, so they could... oh, I don't know... maybe make informed decisions about which version they want to spend their hard-earned cash on? I can understand the need to put out multiple DVD versions of a film on occasion, but DAMN! A half-dozen different DVD editions, and Tarantino wants to release stand-alone Beneath the Crust-style discs of supplemental materials as well?! F#@K THAT.

Multiple bites at the apple, huh?

BITE THIS!

And to think the entertainment industry has the nerve to wonder why some people download this stuff. Greedy bastards. Doh!

That's some funny sh!t.

Leave it up to Weinstein and Miramax to cut a movie in half and charge you twice just to watch one movie and then do it again on DVD three times over! Screw them!

Eventually I will be getting it from Netflix. Top of my queue, but there's supposedly a heckuva waiting list for it.

Uhg. Don't get me started on the steaming pile of crap that is Kill Bill Vol. 1.

My advice: If you haven't seen it, don't.

Loved Vol. 1 (best time I had @ the movies last year); still have to see Vol. 2. I agree that this "multiple version" strategy sucks on ice. At least there was a reason for the multiple versions of LOTR; this smacks of Universal's marketing strategy.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I can never get the music from any Tarantino film out of my head. I haven't seen Kill Bill, but I have the soundtrack on iTunes and I love it. That man is a music master, but we've already had that discussion here before. So... 'nuff said.

A more accurate question would be what *did* I like about it. Pretty much nothing. The whole movie was ruined for me by the time the Bride killed the Black Woman at the begginning.

Basically, lack of a decent plot, detestable protagonist, pointless swearing, overuse of blood, "I'm Buck and I'm here to %^$*"

Actually I didn't see the whole thing. Kill Bill is the first movie I actually got up and left the theater for. I went and played Time Crisis 2 while I waited on the movie to end. (since I have no driver's liscense) I found shooting terrorists much more enjoyable.

Edit: I saw most of the movie. I left after the Ferrari scene I think. It's hard for me to remember the order of the scenes since the thing is so discontinouitous.

I can't stand it when they release a movie to Dvd and then release another edition. Like what they did with T2. They release the "Ultimate Edition", and then about 2 years later, they release another version of the same movie. By my count there's three now, how many versions do we need?

when you say "you dummies" do you mean all of us, or the public in general?

I'm hoping he means the public in general because I've never purchased a second release of a movie. I've still got my original of Pulp Fiction, only the EEs of the LOTR films, the non-SE of A League of Their Own, and only the Criterion copy of Robocop. None of the other releases of these films. Not worth the extra investment. Some movies I won't buy the initial release of because I can tell by the lack of extras that it's just a "band aid" release. This was the case with Dogma which was released on DVD SE a year after the original release. I only purchased the SE. It's the reason I've held off on buying Batman as well.
