I based the title on the DVD menu (I like "The Japanese Cut", but that's me ). I plan to toy with the scan smurf made of the Japanese cover, too, but the first one is mostly for the one I want to print before I started another.

I thought about this too when I was authoring the disc, but that title doesn't appear anywhere on the film itself. In the opening title sequence, it's still "Johnny Mnemonic", so I left it that way.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

You either like it or you don't. I'm a William Gibson and cyberpunk fan, so I just dig it.
The Japanese version is definitely superior in story telling, music and the final ending.

Hi there,

Just checked this out and what a difference it makes. This movie is so much better with the added scenes.

Kind Regards

Any movement on the cover ? No rush, but I've got a lovely box on the shelf with nothing to keep it warm !

I posted a cover/disc in the non-SW dvd cover thread. I really should get around to working on those others soon. hehe..

I just saw the 103 minute Japanese Extended cut of the film and was BLOWN AWAY at how much better a movie it was! Now I'm proud to actually say that I truly like and enjoy this version of the film and would recommend it to anyone. I also noticed that they worked in a Max Headroom homage when an "Edison Turner" (vice "Carter") reports live from those bejing riots. great stuff!

My one question is:
I've heard of there being a 107 minute cut of the movie. Is this even MORE different than the 103 minute cut? Or is the 103 minute cut just a PAL to NTSC tranfser that shaves off 4 seconds due to frame-speed?

The Japanese cut is NTSC.
I believe IMDB is wrong about the 107 minute runtime.
It refers to the 107 minute one as the Japanese Video version, which is this one. I don't think there is any other cuts.
I just deleted an old divx of the Japanese DVD and it was also 103 minutes.

Off subject: I just rewatched this film last night and was again surprised that in the 'hacking his own brain scene', it's less sensical compared to the U.S. cut.

Hmmm...I hope you're right or else I'll be going nuts looking for yet another cut.

Off subject: I disagree, in the Theatrical it's just a bunch of crazy shit going on with J-Bone giving a play by play ("He's doubling himself! Look!"). In this cut, he gets in there, sets off alarms, battles with the IC of his own implant, and gets the last code piece pretty quickly -- which felt much more satisfying. it also lacked that CGI tricycle and all the lame 8mm footage of his childhood in some generic neighborhood, which i always disliked.

I agree about the home movie footage cut out being good (and the fact that it's better paced).

It's just after the other when you see that he doubles himself, there appears to be no reason. Also there's lots of re-run voice-overs that don't shut up the whole time.
Both versions of that scene have strengths and weaknesses, but on the whole the Japan cut of the movie is far far superior.

I am going to do a cover for this one too. I actually really like this film. It is flawed, but fun.
