James Bond 007 Thread — Page 3

The Bluray shots of GoldenEye definitely look too soft, which is unfortunate, but if they went back to an older video master, then there's at least the possibility of the audio being the original mix, rather than the newer one.  The original 5.1, as heard on the older DVD and on laserdisc, has such powerful bass that the UE version just sounds wimpy and muted in comparison.  So that, at least, may perhaps be a point of good news.

So the set is released, are the rumors true? To me this seems worth skipping until they're way under 100€ and even then it's a stretch.

If those shots are representative of the actual blu ray then it is indeed a huge fail on the part of the studio.  Looks like they took the DVD from 1999 upscaled it and applied dvnr even if we know it was probably from a 1080i low res in 1999 scan.

The dvd was barely passable and showed not much more definition than the laserdisc.  Apparently a transfer that would have been a good enough transfer for laserdisc was dumped to blu ray, lol.

Hey at least it is not like they pressed a 4:3 letterbox blu ray with black borders on all sides.

the only home release i know of even close to the theater was the pre credit sequence super8mm version.  For some reason they could not get either dvd right, the HDTV right or the blu ray right.  And they just pushed these out the door to meet the release date of skyfall just like paramount did to meet the last star trek film with their lackluster BD releases.

Is there any truth to the rumor that non-US releases of OHMSS include the original mono mix but that we've only been left with the 5.1 DTS track?

edit: for that matter, when do we get the singles? I can't justify buying all the movies, but OHMSS remains a must-have for me. And heck, why not Goldfinger too?

US BDs actually feature the original audio far more often than EU/UK ones.  I don't know whether the rumor about OHMSS is true.

I agree with the AF's conclusions.  The Goldeneye BD looks awful.

Oops. I edited it to remove that baseless comment, but my negativity has been revealed :P On another note, I'm probably gonna start going through all the ones I haven't seen on Netflix. Most are available for streaming.

What do you get when you morph all the Bonds?

Looks a bit like Richard Burton to me.

Man. I wish Richard Burton had played Bond now.

Saw Lazenby on CNN today, and he's looking good for his age.

Too bad nobody has thought of getting all the "retired" Bonds together for a cameo in Skyfall to celebrate the 50th anniversary. They wouldn't even have to say anything, just be sitting around a table in tuxes while a waiter brings them martinis. ;)

They could all have a line though... A waitress comes up, hands them their martinis and says,

'There you are Gentlemen, six vodka Martinis. Shaken, not stirred'

Daniel Craig's Bond: 'Thank you, Miss..?'

'Broadchest. Melody Broadchest'

All the Bonds: 'Of course you are...'

There are reports of the BD mono track going into extended periods of muffled audio.

Most Wal Mart and Target stores have theirs out on shelves or displays, you just have to search high and low to find them. Best Buy has no clue whatsoever, and I haven't come across any at all. Supposedly they might not be out until the 23rd. (YOLT, OHMSS, TSWLM) BTW these covers look terrible in your hand. Even just due to the printing which honestly is quite lackluster.

I've always wanted to see the five ex-00s at a round table, drinking and having an honest discussion amongst themselves. No PC, no editing, no pandering to appease the producers, just the honest truth from all five Bonds.

Will it ever happen? No. Connery has refused again to participate in anything 007 related this year, and no ever does anything worthwhile to entice him into even speaking about it.

What is really sad is the fact that I could've been editing all this time I've been waiting for the goldeneye blu ray. Now I've got to scrap using it as a source. So officially all releases of Goldeneye on home video are shit.

I wonder if anybody on here will do Bond the same services Harmy did for Star Wars. Give Bond the closest to theatrical presentation with the highest quality media. I would like to, but I lack the resources, and my job in retail makes time a rare commodity.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

That's a shame. He'll do a video game voice over for bond, but won't bother with talking about bond.

On a side note, Roger Moore's looking pretty rough.

You may consider wanting to use an HDTV rip as the source for your edit. It has grain still and the best detail of the available versions of Goldeneye. The only downside is that its the cropped UE version.

Yeah, it sucks, but that might have to do.

Sad, Never Say Never Again seems to have the best Blu Ray release of the bond movies.

Hmmm....

I'd love to see a Never Say McClory-esque edit in HD of NSNA. That'd be a great experience; for all its shortcomings, I still find NSNA relatively enjoyable.

Yeah, I actually think it's more entertaining than Thunderball,  but Thunderball is a better looking and better sounding film.

That shot from NSNA contains a blast from the past for me as I had a telly just like that in my bedroom.

I used it for playing all my Speccy, Amiga and SNES games.

I've been going back and forth or whether or not I should get the box set, and I think I've made my decision.   The answer is no.   Too many things are f___ed up with it.     No excuse for the mistakes with this, no excuse whatsoever.    They are not getting my money.

why has he decided that? What is his beef with the 007 franchise?

I didn't know that he decided to stop doing all things public.   Still,  to not want to have anything to do with the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Bond,  just seems strange to me.
