I tend to watch the SE sometimes — Page 4

Oh sure Frink, you can try to excuse the Disney Rehash ™ but you will never out run the truth.

Han Solo in TFA is still exactly where we last saw him. Which is insane. I mean, seriously how long can you sit around an Ewok campfire smiling?

Depends how many you ate that first winter and how many you put in the freezer.

I like 1997 SE. Unfortunately when it comes to available quality of its release, the situation is pretty much the same as that of OOT.

I’m not Ryan, but I assume his argument is this;

“Throughout the course of the OT, we saw Han grow from a smuggler who cares about nobody but himself to a man fighting for a cause. In TFA they basically reset that, they make it so he’s a smuggler again, totally forgoing any character growth that we saw in the OT.”

I think this line of thinking comes from people who aren’t old enough to be able to look back at 30+ years of their life to note the changes they’ve gone through and the similarities that linger throughout.

Where were you in '77?

The only problem being that we see very little of that played out on screen. It’s implied, not really shown. Han’s primary role is to transition the film series into the new cast, not so much ‘Complete his arc’. The man was meant to die in that carbon freeze, but toy sales prolonged his existence.

I sometimes watch the SE’s too.

Why?

It’s refreshing to watch them every once in a while.

Why?

'Cause watching a dire piece of shit really puts things in perspective and allows you to appreciate good movies all the more.

I guess this explains watching the prequels as well.

Aaaanyways. I can watch the SE of A New Hope without getting too irritated. The SE of Empire doesn’t bother me at all (unless if it’s the 1997 one) and the SE of Jedi is almost unwatchable (I can kind of sit through the 1997 version)

Funny, I don’t recall ever defending the '97 SE.
It’s no less worthy of being preserved than anything else with the Star Wars brand on it though.
