Whelp, I guess it’s time to redirect my obsessive attention from the ROTJ thread to this one.

I have no problems directing my obsessive attention at several threads at once. It just takes the right amount of obsession.

Um, sorry, what am I not supposed to forget about that?

I think he means the middle floor panel. It’s covered in shadow in GOUT.

Well I don’t think he’ll ever be able to forget if you keep going at this rate.

Okay, so no one knows for sure how the Harmy/Grindhouse version of ESB got to where it is? Glad I’m not alone in being confused by it.

What I’m really wanting is to find the most watchable film scan version of ESB (as a companion piece to Harmy’s version). I liked that the Harmy/Grindhouse version was GOUT synced and colored better than Grindhouse, but I have no idea what the film source is, as it would have to have gone through some radical clean up to look like it does if it was from Grindhouse. If it is not Grindhouse sourced, but just a mucked with Harmy v2.0, then I don’t want to bother with getting the larger version (nor keep the smaller version I grabbed already to check), when I already have Harmy’s version, which I’d appreciate more.

It is that exactly.

For a purely fan-restored film ESB, you’ll probably want the upcoming ‘sanitized’ TN1 release.

Thanks, I’ll just wipe out what I have then. What an odd choice for a release… I’m baffled as to what the point was supposed to be.

Thats the idea. I’ll be repeating it just to be sure.

I was hoping to be immortalized by spoting that floor tile that so far had gone by un-noticed in both versions of ESB DE-ED, and thought it seemed just as valid as re-colored sleeves, strands of hair and ships that disappear for 1 frame. I think it’s back to lurking again 😛

Crap. My plumber’s accountant’s nephew’s birthday is in two weeks, and I wanted to give him a complete set of V2.5s. Maybe you could at least make a cake?

Touche. :\

Were you the original dad’s birthday guy? How did it go?

It went great. I still need to give him Jedi v2.5 and a disc with .m4v’s of everything I included (for his new iTunes media server), but he liked it a lot.

This thread’s been pretty dead. Harmy, are you still as optimistic about 2.5 being ready next month as you were a week or two ago? It would be awesome to be able to incorporate it into the post-TFA blu-ray release marathon (I can’t be the only one who’s thinking about doing that, right?)

I mean 2.0 looks pretty great. I get the OCD thing about not having them all the same number, but frankly SW even though it’s 2.5 probably needs an upgrade more.

Though what I’d really like is for Harmy to just put all his efforts into creating a 1080p 3.0 to get it out sooner. The current versions look more than acceptable and I don’t think there’s going to be a whole lot of room left for improvement to be done at 720p.

The nice thing about ESB 2.0 to 2.5 is that it should probably be one of the (comparatively) smaller and more straight forward updates. 35mm footage will be used to upgrade the GOUT in some cases. But that work is being done at 1080p, so it will directly be working towards 3.0 in that sense as well. The color should be similar to 2.0, so most of the BD footage will not need to be messed with. And a couple of the major improvements have already been done afaik (some GOUT replacements, and the credits, which were a reconstruction with lots of typos in 2.0).

Author
Time

The GOUT snowspeeders and Falcon windows on Bespin are really the only things that bug me about 2.0. Since I think I remember Harmy saying somewhere that he won’t be starting from scratch on ESB and ROTJ 3.0, I’d really appreciate some sort of 2.5 along the way, as it’s all work that’s being done for 3.0 anyway (like towne32 just said).

Author
Time

And the zoomed out cockpit shots could stand to have a source better than GOUT (definitely part of a good case for a quick v2.5). Once you see it, you can’t help but notice it, though I’m definitely happier with the GOUT zoom out than without.

Totally! I can’t promise any specific date but I’m definitely doing a v2.5 of ESB and I’m hoping it won’t take too long - I need to figure out how to install Dre’s tool first though.
