The clue was already given .......  "This can be found at the usual paradoxical place in the same thread as the Despecialized Edition."

I don't really follow the SE restoration projects but how is this version different (when watching at normal speed) than the other SE hd projects? Aren't there non-upscaled HD sources from hdtv transmissions?

This is the 1997 SE, which was shown in cinemas world wide and had fewer alterations than the 2004 DVD version and fewer still than the BD version. Plus it didn't have screwed up colors and by all accounts it had a pretty awesome sound mix (unlike the screwed up DVD and BD mixes) which we have in the highest quality heard in cinemas in 1997, thanks to Jetrell Fo and CapableMetal, who extracted it from the original theatrical DTS discs and dark_jedi, who synced it and encoded a DTS-HD track from it.

Can I ask how the Han/Jabba scene was restored? Did you replace the whole sequence with the one from TeamBlu's release or did you somehow replace just the new Jabba from the BD with the 97 Jabba?

No, there aren't as far as I know but you can see in Team Blu's version, that once you get rid of the tint added in the home video versions, the '97SE bears clear signs of being timed to the I.B. print.

We are looking into all three of them. But it will be a lesser priority than the other projects.

This is fantastic.  =)  I'm a bit of a completist, so I've been looking for a 97 restoration that could match the quality of the blu ray release and Despecialized Edition 2.5 and after just getting very excited over team blu's 97 SE, I'm definitely leaning more toward this one, which isn't to say Team Blu's isn't also phenomenal achievement, just that this is a step up in terms of image quality.  Thanks again Harmy for another fantastic release.

I've had a look (as promised) and I have to say, the SE modifications have never looked better!

Any chance someone could put the AVCHD onto MySpleen as well?

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

What speed do you usually watch at?

Well, some people like to run at 24 frames per minute.

 We call those people "readers."

I watched the AVCHD this morning, and it reminded me of being a teen in the cinema back in 1997. It's a great restoration and I'm glad to add it to my ever-growing collection of Episode IV.

So the AVCHD is 720P but the higher bitrate MKV is 540P. Why is that?

It's simply not counting the blank space outside of the actual video frame.

Most "1080p" movies are closer to a little over 800p, if counted this way, unless they actually fill up the entire screen.

Neat edition. Looks like a "special edition" worth keeping around.

Ahh... I had wondered about that. :)

FAntastic work Harmy! This brought me right back to the Lincoln Theater in 1997. Was it worth standing in line all day and night just to get primo seats to watch? Hell yeah it was! Is there any chance someone would host this on Usenet for a while. Can't seem to get the "other" site to work for me. Anywho it would be much obliged. Th force is strong with this one.

For those, like me, who want to make dubbed versions of this one, you can use your 2004 DVD tracks. I used the French audio track from my PAL DVD, transformed it to 23.976 fps using eac3to µGUI and then applied 918 ms delay (a 22 frame difference), and it fits perfectly.

If I may repeat: can anyone upload the AVCHD to the Spleen?

Hi Harmy ! Question about this SE and all your Despecialized editions : do MKV and AVCHD have exactly the same video quality ?

Thanks :)

The mkv will have slightly better quality but it might be hard to notice the differece even when comparing side by side

That's a good idea. But is there any french guy with the capability to extract the french DD track from the 97' french laserdisc ?

Which laserdisc? As far as I'm aware, no PAL laserdiscs had DD audio tracks.

Dolby surround only, Gimli. 5.1 on the 2004 DVD and probably in theaters in 97. Has something been changed between 1997 and 2004 in the dubbed mix? Some foley effects or lines redubbed?
