Info: Harmy's Despecialized Intro Blocked By Fox

Cannot access video on youtube anymore. Happened sometime in just the last few hours for sure.

Just a rough guess but I wanna say the views and likes were up 40% in the last week. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

It’s a documentary uploaded by Harmy, about 20 minutes long that goes into detail about the work and the sources used to create Despecialized. It’s been on Youtube for almost two years and had almost a million views. There are already several threads about it.

The 20 minute video itself was an amazing watch and kind of a work of art in its own right.

From the thread title, I thought it was the intro of the movie that was blocked, not the short documentary. Now I’m somewhat interested.

Perhaps someone who has Lucas’ Original Vision tattooed somewhere on their body reported it? 😛

Where were you in '77?

No no, just a picture of Lucas’ face. Specifically, on his right shoulder (Rick McCallum’s on the left).

Do the faces kiss if the person bends their arms back?

Could this possibly be a good thing? A sign that Harmy’s Despecialized might no longer be needed?

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Are you suggesting that 2oth C. Fox might be cracking down because something official is on the horizon? Interesting prospect indeed. Why else let it sit for five years and all of the sudden have it pulled?

True true. Could be exciting. And good news is that you can still watch this amazing documentary on NJVC’s set in its best quality.

Years ago Mike Verta said that Lucasfilm didn’t view the non-Legacy fan projects as a threat, but back then Harmy’s versions weren’t on the same level as they are now, and they certainly didn’t have the massive popularity that they got over the past year or two.

Glad I’m not completely insane.

Glad I’m not completely insane because of this one isolated incident.

Yeah, the DeSpecialized 2.5 Edition ‘Video Sources Documentary’ is still up.
Need to keep an eye on that one. If that one goes then…?

Getting rid of those videos wouldn’t help Fox hinder the Despecialized Edition. If they wanted to put a stop to it then they’d probably contact Harmy himself. Do you think it was just a content ID match that led to Fox blocking the video, or a specific targeting?

It could be a content ID match, or any random person who reported it being linked by any number of the articles on DE.

Does anyone have the feeling though that even if they released an “original” version it would still be altered in some way as to make people unhappy? Would they go 77 or 81 re-release? Would they feel the need to fix actual errors like Vader lightsaber rotoscoping?

Granted, if it were the true 77 version I would give them all of the monies.

That is most likely the case. Especially if Harmy’s making of featurette isn’t blocked.

There is nothing that they could possibly release or imagine that would not have some of the people here complaining. But a reasonable pre-1997 version of the films would be good enough for most people who simply dislike the SE changes (not necessarily members of this specific community, who are more perfectionist). Still, it would be a version that only “needs” small tweaks instead of massive changes implemented from disparate sources.

We’ll see what they end up doing. I bet it’ll be visually fine because the only pre-SE video change was the opening of Star Wars. It’ll be colors or audio that get a few perfectionists riled up. Hopefully they’ll include a couple original theatrical audio tracks.

Quick, someone upload a video with Empire 2.0! If it gets taken down by Disney, that CONFIRMS that they’re releasing the theatrical cuts!

Side note: don’t actually do this.

Author

Yeah, YouTube is shit and literally anyone can copyright flag a video and have it taken down for no reason pretty much.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.
