That's awesome!  I didn't think a good transfer would really happen.

I'm still waiting to see shots with blown out clouds to see if they're back now.

This confirms exactly what I was talking about.

From what I can see from the screenshot comparison, that is pretty much what I saw when it was re-released at the cinema. I guess, they were using the digital re-release to test the waters for the new 4K remaster.

I am so happy this has happened, as it looked exactly spot on when I saw it at the cinema. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the contrast was fixed on the big screen. Hopefully others will feel the same with the new 4K blu-ray :-)

Looks like I'll be upgrading to the 4K, shame they can't do the same for Ghostbusters 2...what gives?

Yeah where is that already? I can retire my 1080i HDTV version

Yes, yes, no more blowout! This makes me think of the archival 70mm print I saw at the Egyptian for Halloween '10.

If I had known this was the transfer being used for the DCP screenings, I wouldn't have blown off my last two opportunities to see it in a theater. Next time there's a DCP showing in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'm in.

So is the new 4k transfer the overall best in most people's estimation, and how does the audio rate against Jonno's PCM track from the Criterion?  Thanks in advance.

The positioning of Slimer behind the spook is rather unfortunate. ;)

I hope GBII will be available on it's own.

 It is, 25th aniversary edition!

I bet the GB2 has the HDTV master that was struck at the same time as GB, it has the same blown out contrast issues

A Harold Ramis tribute would be nice, although I suspect these discs were finalized before he passed away.

They're both going to be "4k" remasters.

They are both mastered in 4k but that does not mean GB2 had a new master, the old one could have been 4k.

Unlikely but I never trust studio PR
