Getting to a specific page in a thread

I've thought of this previously but I was reminded of it again while reading through the hot like fire thread (which made me feel smarter the more I read it).  The thread is 76 pages long.  Let's say I read 25 pages today.  Tomorrow I want to start on page 26, but my choices appear to be limited to first page, current page, last page.  Is there any way to start on a specific page?

You could bookmark the last post you read (just click the bookmark link under the post). That will add it to your forum bookmarks and you could pick up where you left off.

Adding a link to every page is impractical, at least all lined up. I toyed with the idea of a drop-down menu like you see in the top nav, but with page numbers. That's a bit like expecting people to remember the last page they read in a book instead of inserting a bookmark, although I'm sure some folks do that.

Sheesh, that was easy.  Thanks Jay.

On a related note, topics on the forum pages display the number of pages like this:

1 2 3 4 5 ... 60

but could it instead look like this:

1 2 3 ... 58 59 60?

I find that I often want to read the last few pages of a long thread to get the context of the current conversation if I join in late. It would also be nice if it looked kind of like this:

1 2 3 5 <5> 6 7 8 60

or something similar, so that a person who wants to, say, retrieve information from a previous page, but doesn't want to click the back arrow fifty-bajillion times can do so? This would be especially helpful for fanedit threads which tend to get pretty long.

That works some of the time, but what if I don't want to read the whole thread, or if I've already read the pages and want to skip back to reference or quote something. If I'm in a thread that's over a hundred pages long, and I want something I think is around page fifty, it's going to take a while just clicking the back or forward arrow without being able to skip pages.

I usually punch in the number manually, by modifying the address up there.

Agreed, this is the easiest method if you want to go to a specific page in the tread.

 Thanks, Darth Solo.

But yeah, that's what I do too.

Thanks, not sure why I didn't think of that before...
