We can start off with a list of your favorites, new discoveries, or suggestions on people starting out in either.

Myself, I took Ric's suggestion and purchased the first three volumes of Kenshin(gotta love Books A Million's buy two get one free), and so far its turning out to be better than I expected, considering what little I saw of the anime wasn't exactly my cup of tea at the time.

Yeah, I happened to take advantage of the Buy 2, Get 3rd Free as well yesterday. I had to buy the last two volumes of DB and decided to get the first volume of One Piece as well, since I've heard a lot of good things about it. Haven't read it yet, but I'll be sure to talk about it when I do.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I wish Full Metal Alchemist DVDs were cheaper. Funimation should be sued for price-gouging.

FUNimation should be sued for being a crappy dubbing company to begin with.

I also resorted to the 'bay to get my Trigun and Samurai Champloo DVDs. They are of dubious origin, but they are indeed factory pressed discs and have a great picture.

Samurai Champloo DVD?! You indeed ARE blessed!

Just got back to yet another anime convention, second one this week, in which I "cosplayed" As Kamui from "X". Might post some pics later.

Haven't watched any anime in ages, but I still keep DVDs of my old favorites around - Dominion: Tank Police, BGC 2040, Slayers, etc.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Manga I read:

One Piece
Dragon Ball (that includes the later half, named "Z" in America)
Death Note
Yu-Gi-Oh (don't call me a nerd. It's nothing like the shitty anime)

I reccomend all of these, but you HAVE to read Death Note. It really is the best manga I've ever read, and is much better than most novels I've read. I'm probably going to start collecting another series soon. I've been holding off because dragon ball is 42 volumes, Yu-Gi-Oh, when finished, is 38 volumes, and One Piece already has 12 out, with volume 41 having just been released in Japan. (See how you have to plan ahead with these things?) Luckily, Death Note has 7 out now and will only go to a volume twelve. If I am going to collect another, it was going to be Rouroni Kenshin. Is that one good?
Watch DarthEvil's Who Framed Darth Vader? video on YouTube!

You can also access the entire Horriffic Violence Theater Series from my Channel Page.

I stoped reading One Piece after the Baroque Works saga was finished. Felt like it was going to beat a dead horse up to that point. Death Note is one of those manga I MUST read, based on what I've heard about it, but it's pending on my to do list for years. Also, I gotta check out X (seen the anime, gotta read the manga), which is Clamp's only thing worth reading besides half of Sakura Card Captor.

Any cosplayers over there?

I have an odd craving for omusubi.

Now that I'm getting a bit into manga more, does anyone have any suggestions? Keep in mind that I like Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, Last Exile, and Samurai Champloo.

Well... Try either Barefoot Gen or Osamu Tezuka's Adolf - which are the manga equivalent to "Maus".

The "animatrix" is as much anime as the holiday special is Star Wars cannon.

Ha! The next thing you'll tell me is that Avatar the last airbender isn't anime either.

Um, Ric, as much as Lucas wishes otherwise, the Holiday Special *is* canon. Lumpy, Itchy, Mallah, and LifeDay have all been featured in the EU.

As for The Animatrix, I don't see why it wouldn't be considered anime. It was animated in Japan and most of the shorts adhere to the general rules of Asian animation design to a T.

Well, what I don't like is how somehow the Nickelodeon series Invader Zim is always put in the anime category at all the stores I go to. Every time I complain, my girlfriend's little sister snaps at me because she says it's a good show. I'm not challenging that. It's just not anime! It's a Nicktoon!

Weird. The only Nicktoon I'd even consider classifying as Anime was the aforementioned 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'

I feel like I kinda identify with characters on EVA like Shinji's hating himself and Social anxiety.

So do I, that's perhaps one of the main reasons I felt so connected to this anime.

Great comparison on the Samurai Champloo versus... whatever the heck that is. American animation is pretty much on adult cartoons like simpsons, family guy, south park, the adult swim ones, and even those are now getting old.
