GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Editing is Half the Battle (* unfinished project *)

OK, let me start by saying that I greatly enjoyed GI Joe: Rise of Cobra. While it has its faults (some of which run deeper than a fan cut can adequately address), I thought it was a very fun, well paced good-versus-evil action team story, and really that’s what GI Joe boils down to at the end of the day. I saw it twice in theaters and own it on Blu-Ray, so obviously I have an appreciation for the movie as it was released. However, there were a few things about the movie that did and still do annoy me quite a bit which could easily be trimmed out of the movie without dramatically effecting the flow or continuity of the story. I don’t know when a rip of the Blu-Ray will be available (especially looking at how long it’s taking for Transformers 2 to get one), and I’ve never made a fan cut of a full movie before, but if I do actually get around to it my cut of GI Joe would be undertitled “Editing is Half the Battle.”

Like I said, the cuts I’d make would be pretty minimal, so don’t expect any sweeping changes from it (assuming it actually gets made). Most of the cuts will be made to Ripcord and Scarlett’s incredible awkward and stiff relationship, but what remains of it will hopefully come across as being much more mature and less childish.

Proposed cuts:

Ripcord’s “When I get a target in my sights, I take it down” line to Scarlett
The entire scene in the gym (it was pointless, and the part where Ripcord talks to Scarlett sounded like it was written by a 13 year old who has never talked to a girl. When I watched the Blu-Ray I found myself just chapter skipping it)
The part of the first young Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow fight where Snake spits the dinner roll at Storm Shadow’s eye
Destro’s line at the end about “Taking his place amongst his anscestors.” The line sounded very stiff and unnatural (and for a line in a movie with Channing Tatum, that’s saying a lot!)
The Black Eyed Peas song at the end replaced with Alan Silvestri’s original, unused ending credits song (first of all the Black Eyed Peas song annoys me, and secondly Silvestri’s song was excellent and I felt it was a shame that it didn’t make it into the film)

Those are the biggest cuts that I could think of. There are certainly more that I could theoretically make, but I can’t think of them right now. If any of you have any other ideas for little nips and tucks that could be made to the movie to improve it, then by all means feel free to share them. Just remember though, if I do this my intention isn’t to make sweeping changes to the film, because I already like it-- I just want to get rid of some of the annoyances I have with it.

I already loved his voice in the movie and don't really see a need to change it. I thought it actually sounded quite similar to the cartoon version, except it was an octave deeper (and for the movie's purposes, that helped him to come across as more sinister).

Seriously?  Wow, this movie seems like a winner.  I've not seen it, are we talking child SE vs SS via flashback?  Are they that integral to the story?

It was in the scene where Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow first meet as kids, and Snake Eyes is stealing food from the Arashikage dojo's kitchen. I know a lot of people complained that they spent too much time on Snake and Storm's flashbacks, and if I do a cut I might try to trim them down a bit, but I do want to keep most of their fight scenes in tact since they were surprisingly intense, and were amongst the best choreographed in the movie.
