"Behold, the Falcon..."

I can't believe all you guys missed the obvious retort:

"What a piece of junk!"

(And you called yourselves Star Wars fans. )

"I DROVE THAT THING THE REST OF THE WAY TO WORK FLAMES AND ALL. I WATCHED IT BURN THE REST OF THE WAY DOWN IN THE PARKING LOT."

My friend and I were driving my dad's station wagon up a mountain road at night, when the engine caught on fire. We pulled over and had nothing but dirt and pepsi to throw on the fire. After it was out, we started it up again, and flames promptly reignited.

We ended up having to drive the car back down the mountain road. Since there was no power, there was also no power steering or power brakes. I was literally standing on the brakes, both to keep the speed down and to give me enough leverage to turn the steering wheel.

"Too true. I remember back before the 04 Presidential election, a lot of Kerry-supporters were complaining about jobs being shipped overseas (you know, as part of the arguement that Bush 43 lost the most jobs of any president since Herbert Hoover)."

I recall there being a bid for tractors for a government job. It was John Deere versus a Japanese brand. The Japanese brand was cheaper and won the bid. There was a huge uproar, but it was later pointed out that the Japanese brand was made in America, whereas the John Deere was made in Japan. Go figure.

We have a 22ft Ford motorhome, a Dodge Caravan, and a Mazda Protege hatchback. We've also had two saturns (at different times.)

Good thing about the internet is that I can post useless stuff on forums no matter where I am right now

Rikter, seeing your family of old Datsuns brings a smile to my face, and frustrates me at the same time. Zootie in particular looks like a graceful dance partner, but they remind me of how badly I want to get another old Z-car to play with. One of these days...

Zootie is a BLAST to dance with!! I've now done some amazing things with this car coming down Sandia Peak (mostly sideways) sadly, I've not yet taken on other auto-xers (I miss being able to race I can't keep up on the tires and fees) but my buddy Jimmy is coming out this spring and we may be doing some new coil-overs for the front (possibly for both the B210 and Zootie) and IF I'm able to spring for some new rubber (and pass spec) I may drop in for a few races

Do you race in Stock or Street Prepared? Either way GOOD LUCK and keep making those honduhs look silly !!

Hey!!! Don't diss the Honda, man.

Besides, she might not look like much, but she's got it where it counts.

Those Datsuns look a lot like the Lada. Anyone familiar with that USSR car?

Yes, I am familiar.

Why do Ladas have heated rear windshields? To keep your hands warm when you're pushing them.

I got that after my 1997 Ford Explorer (The Beast) ran over a Corvette that lost control on a wet road and slid out in front of me (perpendicular to traffic) while going about 60 on a highway. In trying to avoid it I ended up driving over the hood of his car. My car probably would have been fine had it not caught fire...the fire department said that the battery cable came loose and sparked some flammables in the engine.

Hate to say this Simon man, but that's a girls car!!!

MoveAlong: Not only do we share the same avatar, but my first car was a 1974 260Z. Spooky...

Rikter: My local club uses NASA's classing system. No, not the space program guys, the National Auto Sport Association. Their system is much simpler than SCCA's, and a bit more forgiving. You start out in a base class with cars of similar potential, and each of your modifications has a point value. When you accumulate enough mod points, you're bumped up to the next class. As she sits today, Sadie is still stockish enough that she's in G class, but when some parts that have been languishing in the garage floor get installed I'll be in F. In comparison, the simple fact that I have 300ZX front brakes would, IIRC, put me in Street Mod in SCCA, where I wouldn't be remotely competitive.

This is my beloved 1985 Honda Civic, affectionately refered to as 'The Falcon'.

You know, in Australia, the two most popular cars are the Ford Falcon...

and the Holden Commodore...

As for my car - it's an 1982 Ford Laser. It's gold/brown with a blue tip from when my dad smashed the front of it. It's a bomb, but I love it. It's been in my family ever since I was a kid. It's almost surreal watching a video of me as a 3 year-old reversing it down the driveway...I call it the "Silver Bullet" even though it isn't silver, but that's a long story.

Sure, people have their dream cars that include 200,000 dollar Ferarris and Lamborghinis, but all I want is a $10-15,000 DeLorean DMC-12.
