I second that one.

Though I'm not overly passionate about these films, it might be fun to see a combined version of EXORCIST DOMINION / THE BEGINNING and a complete EXORCIST III.

I would love to see an "ultimate WATER WORLD" version -- all of the footage from the workprint and TV version nice and clean and put back into the film. I know, it's a dumb film, but I'm a sucker for it.

If we're talking "dream projects" as in "I dream of the day I can see this... " then:

SWING SHIFT (Jonathan Demme Cut)
MARRIED TO THE MOB (Complete Version)
FIRE WALK WITH ME (Full Version)
PARKER (Helgeland's version of PAYBACK)
EATERS OF THE DEAD (Workprint of THE 13TH WARRIOR) -- I can't even find the workprint!
SMOKEY IS THE BANDIT -- apparently SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT III was originally filmed with Jackie Gleason in the Bandit role but audiences found it too confusing. I think I might find it too surreal and godawful. But I want to see this!

Good suggestions cashiers! BTW, how goes the article on the edits?

How about an extended version of Office Space using the deleted footage on the special edition DVD. Call it the

"Pound You in the Ass Edition".

Better snatch that title before the officially use it for the Brokeback Mountain Special Edition.

Article goes very slow -- got an outline done and some meat on the bones. Unfortunately, most of my time has been spent freaking out and trying to get a new job -- I got laid off around New Years. Bleah.

I want to see the original Director's cut of "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes".
That first cut was shown at previews and had alot more violence and blood and a much darker ending.

FanFiltration:
I think it's "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" that featured the longer/darker cut. I could be wrong. However, whichever film it is, the laserdisc (the Japanese one at least) had the longer cut. The new DVD of this film will feature the longer cut. I hope it's via seamless branching as I would want the theatrical cut as an option alongside the option of the longer cut.

I'd love to see a fan version that gives us the widescreen video of the DVD release along with the original soundtrack.

I would love to take this on but I have not been able to find a practical way to add a 2nd audio track to a dvd. I have 3 versions of this movie. The original VHS and both of the DVDs. If anyone could point me to a simple solution?

What about RENT?

I just watched the film version of RENT. First, let me say I've never seen the show, and the film was my first introduction to it. I loved it.

However - I watched the deleted scenes, and I feel that this could do with a small bit of editing.

Specifically, I think "Goodbye Love" should be reinstated in its entirety, and the original back-to-the-stage ending should be restored. I personally don't think "Halloween" is too necessary, but it's a good song, so if it was added back in, that would be nice as well.

I was just wondering if there's a "market" for this, so to speak, and if there is, if someone with know-how would be willing to give it a shot.

Another possible idea - though i doubt this is feasible - could be to reedit it completely as a rock opera with no dialogue, but the way the film is structured, this is probably impossible.

OK here goes

LAST ACTION HERO

I WOULD LOVE to see a fan edit, which makes the fictional flick the core of the movie, and erase the first act + make the climax better ? I always thought this flick should have started with the jack slater IV opening. To hell with that kid and his real life problem, we want Arnold blowing baddies away !

I'd love to see the original version of Payback as well, though I understand there is a workprint out there but the quality isn't too good.

How about Hal Ashby's Being There? It's a wonderful film but some of it just seems like it's from another movie.

- Cut the subplot about the President not being able to get it up in bed (why is this in the movie?)
- Cut Shirly McLaine masterbating (why is this in the movie?)
- Replace the end credits which scroll over an outtake of Peter Sellers repeatedly flubbing a scene. It's nice to watch as a blooper, but it pulls you out of the magic of the movie and is largely blamed for Sellers' not winning the Best Actor Oscar that year.

If I knew how, I would have already done it myself.

A friend of mine said that the original script for Kingdom of Heaven had much stronger anti-muslim attitudes and a much faster pace. He asked me to see about making an edit for him, but I was bored to tears just trying to watch that movie. There's no way that I could devote time to even seeing if that kind of edit is possible.

Does anyone know of any edits of this movie or is anyone interested in making one?

An edit of Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Askaban edit. Have the part when Surius Black breaks into Hogwarts but have it be the deleted scene version not the lame verison that was in the movie. Then I would be happy

I was thinking about that, but i thought no one here would like RENT. Thats an edit i would love to see and have I Should tell you be after La Via Bohemn B instead of in the middle cuz it ruins the pacing.

Some I'd love to see/be involved with someday:

Batman Begins - With Danny Elfman music. Having a REAL musical score would enhance this film so much. Batman and Batman Returns would be the two greatest sources obviously, but other Elfman scores such as Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow could be utilized as well.

Superman III - Re-sequenced and re-edited to downplay the more ridiculous aspects and focus on Clark/Lana, and Evil Superman. The junkyard battle would be the climax of the film. Perhaps have the supercomputer (Brainiac by any other name) be somehow responsible for Superman's disturbing behavior change.

Superman III/IV - A combination of Superman III and IV. I have no definite ideas for this, but I think it would be interesting to try and make something out of these two ultimately dissapointing films. I do have some vague ideas though: The Smallville part on the farm in IV can tie into the Smallville stuff in III, Nuclear Man being the cause of Evil Superman, and possibly using the Voice of Jor-El instead of Lara.

The Batman Begins edit could start at anytime, but any attempt at Superman should wait until the 14 DVD set is released later this year.

No, I don't think ISTY should be moved - in the commentary, Columbus reveals that the original show had it that way and it didn't work near as well, so they moved it just before it opened on Broadway and it's been there since 1996.

Fox severely cut down Ridley Scott's original version. His Director's Cut will be released on DVD in May.

I attempted an edit of the A Chorus Line movie once many years ago, because it's such a classic show and such a horrible movie, but I gave up on it as impossible, just because it doesn't have "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love" in it at all. That's the centerpiece of the whole show, without it the movie doesn't have a heart. There's really no way to fake an entire musical number.

Somehow I suspect someone could reedit Schumacher's awful Phantom of the Opera film to replace their non-singer Phantom with Michael Crawford's voice (and other voices from the original soundtrack) wherever possible, and remove the "sideshow boy" flashback. That would be neat. Emmy Rossum and her lowcut dresses can stay though. =)

(This is sounding like a better and better idea to me. Some creative editing could fix some of Schumacher's more uninspired camera angles and lighting - if a closer shot is needed on a too-wide shot, one could grab the pan & scan version and letterbox that, to get a closer take ... chromakey and filters could make any colored lighting more subtle ...)

How about Almost Famous with extended musical sequences including some form of "Small Time Blues?" ("Small Time Blues" was the inspiration for the "Angel Town" sequence in my film Gods of Los Angeles.)

The Masters of the Universe movie would be a fun reedit - it would still suck, but one could reedit it to be more like an episode of the TV series. You could make it short ...

Oh! At one point I had considered doing an edit of Monty Python's The Meaning of Life - reinstating the cut scenes from the DVD, moving The Crimson Permanent Assurance back into the movie at the right point, and reinstating cut/changed lines heard on the soundtrack album ("Well, it's sort of a link." "Ooh, have a nice month.")

Oh! This would be weird and kind of pointless, but how about an edit of The Nightmare Before Christmas which uses the opening/closing narration (Patrick Stewart) from the soundtrack album, maybe a couple of cut shots from the DVD if they're worth it (but there's not much to speak of), and maybe even have someone animate (via CGI, but to look like cutout silhouettes) the cut "Oogie's Dance" segment heard on the soundtrack and discussed in the book.

That would be pointless, wouldn't it ...

Easy dumb obvious one - Extended Sin City. Cut back into one movie, a la the theatrical cut, but with the extra scenes of Hartigan's wife and Mort and the Nurse put AFTER the appearance by Senator Roark, where they'll make about ten times more sense.

In my "impossible dream edit" category:

Terry Gilliam claims that his second-to-last cut of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (running 12 minutes longer) was much better than what was released, because it had a more natural pace and "breathing room." This cut is long since lost. The Criterion DVD didn't turn up much deleted footage ... most notable was a better extended cameo for Gilliam himself.

The deleted host segments from MST3K: The Movie have turned up somewhere, haven't they? Probably a terrible cam bootleg from one of the conventions.

Unbreakable needs some editing to pick up the pace.

In the realm of the impossible maybe The Usual Suspects for purely, shits and giggles value, could be recut so Keaton is Kaiser Sozsey(sp?) Whick I believe they told Gabrielle Byrne all throughout the movie. Of course you'd have to lose the voiceover by Kevin Spacey
"KILLING IS MY BUSINESS, AND BUSINESS IS GOOD."

I have a feeling that I'm going to get raked over the coals for this but here goes anyway...

UNBREAKABLE
The ending that I had in my mind for UNBREAKABLE would have actually catapolted the film into a more comic book arena -- showing how far Mr. Glass's "psychosis" had gone. Would have loved to have had a different ending to the final confrontation wherein a big glass box fell from the ceiling and started filling with water over the Bruce Willis character -- kind of like Superman finding the box of Kryptonite in Lex Luthor's lair. Then Mr. Glass bidding Willis adieu and making an elaborate escape. Of course, "Mr. Unbreakable" would escape/survive, leaving the film more in the realm of the fantastic and perhaps even opening it up for a high brow comic book sequel. It just petered out at the end as if M. Night wanted to get to that twist and didn't know where to go with it afterwards.

THE MASK
THis one definitely could have been edited for pace and it felt like it needed another subplot to kick it in the ass. It's been a while since I've seen this one but remember jotting down those extra scenes after I saw it -- back when I had visions of being a professional "script doctor". LOL.

NEW WAVE HOOKERS
Again, going to get crucified for saying this, but I think that it'd be nice to see a preservation done of this one to have it back in its original, albeit illegal, form. Would be great to have the option of seeing the "non-Traci Lords" version and the original cut all on one DVD with professional menus and the like. I got so excited with NEU WAV HOOKERS (not a type) came out recently. There was a package that touted that it carried "the original" but, bah, it was the re-cut Traci-free version. Gotta be careful throwing around words like "original", eh?
